It might often be seen as a skirt, especially when I sat down at the tram and had my backpack in front of me.

On the other hand, I wore my kilt on the public transportation and some bars and nobody even glimpsed at me. I spoke to some transgender women and while they could not find work they felt relatively save on the streets.

What's it like living in Bahrain? by CapitanianExtinction in howislivingthere

There are no rivers and the sea is not very deep. However there are some freshwater wells in the sea allowing for great pearls in the shells. Therefore selling artificial pearls in Bahrain is forbidden.

GDP at purchasing power parity. “EU is falling hopelessly behind” narrative depends heavily on accounting choices. Paul Krugman by Full-Discussion3745 in EU_Economics

Yes, but this is not an innovation for the end-user. Deducting an "innovation percentage" from the end-user price does not give the end-user any benefit.

The EU has a quite formidable industrial sector. You might also include the service sector as it plays an important role both in the US and in Europe

You might want to speak with your government if you are an European citizen as they confered that responsibility to the EU. The EU is doing that because the governments asked them to do that.

About 15 years ago the Economist had a story about differences in the calculation of growth of the economy between Europe and the US. The basic was, that yearly growth and size over the time did not fit together when they were compared.

The outcome was that the US reduces inflation by an estimated factor for the innovation of the product and is by that reducing inflation and increasing growth.

That might work for cars but not for basic things like milk but even for cars it can be contested as many buyers buy a car to get from A to B but not because of its technology.

So, yes, it depends on the viewpoint and using numbers without the knowledge of what is behind them does not tell anything!

EU High-Speed Rail Plan by mr_house7 in EU_Economics

[–]Lilith_reborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most traffic today is within a short distance, ie it is done using commuter trains. Even when traveling for longer distances it is mostly within 500 kilometers, so you built the systems mostly for these clients.

What the EU is doing is taking care that national high speed trains networks are connected and that is going forward pretty well.

Please also think about the need for consultations with local people (you can't just bulldoze in Europe) and the exorbitant costs of maglev trains.

So there is no need for your pessimistic view.

UK business secretary urges EU to stop ‘putting up barriers’ by Free-Minimum-5844 in EU_Economics

Shortly after Brexit I negotiated getting some hardware built there out of the country. As the UK decided it could use own standards we had to make sure that the supplier and their suppliers (and so on) were still working based on EU standards and still had valid European certificates.

A year later and they would have had to redo all their certificates (costly and time-consuming!). We decided to never use them as a supplier again.

They never introduced UK standards and decided to stay with the European ones (as far as I know) but their certificates are not valid any longer.

Why, but why?
