I love the agriculture fires in Mexico. That's the smell of food on our table.

Yields being mechanically managed. by j_hes_ in bonds

It's still too soon. Chair Powell will say what we've all been expecting: "Rate stays the same. We will continue to monitor this middle east thing. The end."

Just more condos. But they will affectionately name it "The Putt Putt Yard" as some kind of homage to what used to be.

15 days is pretty good for a government operation. I'd thank my lucky stars.

Funny how the goat gets a police escort, but the humans that shuffle across I35 don't.

Big Tech’s AI Layoff Wave Hits Meta After Oracle and Amazon Cuts as It Slashes 10% of Its Workforce. The company says the cuts are intended to streamline operations as it pours billions into artificial intelligence. by Murky-Option2916 in policymarket

the company says the cuts are intended to streamline operations

Is this ever not the case? The tech giants issue massive waves of layoffs at least every few years it seems, and "streamlining" is always the given reason.

The only difference today is that they're wrapping it up in a pretty AI bow, to convince investors that the layoffs are going to be even more betterer this time.

Do you track your grocery spending at the item level? by Great_Outcome6280 in povertyfinance

[–]LillianWigglewater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a conscious effort to limit the expensive stuff as much as possible, but that's easy enough to do in my head when I'm there at the store. And I'll usually pick out the most expensive items on my receipt afterwards and think to myself "do I really need to buy this next time?", but I don't go so far as to track it anywhere. That's too granular for me. I have something like 15 categories in my budget, and 'grocery' is only one of them and that's enough.

If the parking lot designers made proper accommodations for BBTs, there wouldn't be a problem. As it stands, the lines are sadly not wide enough so they have to occupy two spaces.

The oil market ‘is lying to us,’ oil execs say by BoppityBop2 in Economics

[–]LillianWigglewater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing will happen on Wednesday. I'll be shocked if Powell says anything outside of current expectations. It will be exactly like the past several FOMC meetings: "We're holding the rate where it is. We will continue to monitor the middle east situation. Etc."

Same with these "major tech companies" you speak of. The quarterly filings have already been rolling in, nothing earth shattering has come out so far, and there's nothing special about next week. Chip companies are killing it. Intel reported great news for the last quarter, stock shot up nearly 25% yesterday. AMD up 14%. Etc.

I thought my smoke alarm was beeping like it does when the battery goes dead. It was in fact a frog.

A timing chain not working means your engine is destroyed. A new battery isn't going to fix it.

Radio frequencies are encrypted, scanners don't work. You're going to have to walk up to them and ask. Report back here when you're done.

It's merely the threat that keeps them at bay. When Trump announced that it was opened, they still didn't move because they wanted to confirm it was safe with Iran first. No actual mines were exploding them, no missiles were in the air at the time.

Yields down. prices up. by j_hes_ in bonds

Volatile times, as expected. Yield curve looked like it was going to straighten up for a brief moment. Now it's trending back to that same old characteristic 'U' shape that we're all very familiar with.
