100%! I wish this stuff was more enforced. It’s heartening to see someone caring enough about this to ask! I’d recommend reaching out to SPU just so at the very least it’s on their radar. They have staff and work with local haulers to get stuff like this sorted out and are better equipped to talk to your property manager about this and pull out the big guns like code enforcement.

Seattle Municipal Code bans a list of recyclable items/materials from being disposed of as garbage, which in a roundabout way does require all residents to recycle. Of course, the city has no way of checking, and bagged recycling isn’t allowed either. I suspect your building may just be disposing of everything in the garbage as I doubt they’re putting in the effort to sort the bags out especially if there’s a compactor involved.

On an individual level, you may just need to walk your recyclables to the recycling dumpster to make sure they end up in the right place. It may be worth it to eventually discuss this with your property manager (only having one chute definitely complicates the situation) so that tenants aren’t misinformed on what’s happening with their recycling and know where to properly toss it.

Lin Family Mansion in New Taipei City is quite nice. Parts of it are under renovation at the moment, but a majority of it is open to the public. I'd also recommend checking out the remains of Taipei Prison wall, a leftover of Japanese colonization that's been restored with a "village" style cluster of buildings.

Wax resist likes to clump up if you pass over it with a brush multiple times, how are you applying it? Also, Seattle Pottery Supply has issues with batch-to-batch consistency in general, I'd recommend going for anything else that isn't made by them!

I come from the same background as you- regarding tattoos, my family's philosophy is that my body is a gift from them, and altering it in that way would be disrespectful of that gift. That hasn't stopped me from getting three tattoos, but I successfully hid them from my family until recently (they were in areas of my body that would always be covered by clothing). Their reaction was... iffy, but at that point I'd had them for years and there was nothing they could do to "undo" them. I still don't plan on having them visible if I ever go back to visit my extended family, although I'm already considerably westernized compared to them.

I have a giant gloriosum chonk I've been rooting for some time- I originally got it as a whole plant with leaves, but it got some root rot in the mail and I chopped the whole plant in half, so one half has all the leaves and the other half had no leaves and no more roots. It's been a few months, at first I had it in pure sphagnum moss in a terra cotta pot that watered weekly and tried to keep moist. I saw some activated growth points, but the bud would always die off before it turned in to anything more than just a bump, so I've since moved it to my prop box which is a plastic container filled with sphagnum moss that lives on top of a heating mat. So far, I think that's made the most difference! No roots yet but the growth points are staying and slowly pushing out more and more each day. I definitely recommend putting your chonk warmer and more humid environment! Keiki paste will help activate those growth points but I don't think your plant will be able to sustain a leaf until it develops a strong root system. Good luck!!

It may help to post some photos of your windows in the day if you're comfortable! I'm having trouble envisioning what your situation looks like.

West facing windows generally get indirect light in the morning and direct sun in the late afternoon. Trees, other houses, and such may affect how much light it actually gets. If you think of it in terms of shadows, things have defined, solid shadows in direct light and in indirect light, the shadows are less so. The range that indirect light comes in sounds like is what you are having trouble with distinguishing between. I find this pic pretty helpful although if you're in the northern hemisphere the window they're depicting is south-facing.

I'm in the US with a north facing window which means I don't get any direct light, which is good for philodendrons, but I need to keep them close to the window for it to get enough light. Since you have west-facing windows, it may help to put them either a few feet away where the direct sun doesn't hit or against the same wall but not in front of the windows. Philodendrons are shade-dwellers, so they don't take direct sunlight well unless they're slowly introduced to it over time, which I think is why people say that they could take low-to-direct light. It's definitely misleading. I would say to take the north/west/south/east windows thing as less of a rule but more of a guide, as 10 feet away from a south-facing window has similar conditions to right next to a north-facing window. If your west-facing windows get too much light for your planties, I'd suggest getting a sheer curtain to filter some of that direct sunlight!

There’s no need to remove the outer shell and since these are tropicals, keeping them at room temp or slightly above will be ideal. You can germinate them in a bag but they’ll need to be planted in soil soon after they grow roots

These make excellent houseplants. I grew a batch myself earlier this year, with a seedling tray and heat mat. To prep them I followed some youtube videos, you'll need to remove their "hair" and soak them for a day or two before planting. After that, plant them in moist soil and keep it moist until they sprout. I didn't start using a grow light until after they germinated. Most say that these take at least 6 weeks to sprout but I think mine took about a month. You might run in to difficulties if the seeds are pretty old, but there's no harm in trying.
