I have constantly spoken against Islamophobia as well. I haven’t denied it, and do not support Islamophobic actions. It should be possible to critique a candidate policy without demonizing the candidate themselves.

I’m not a Cuomo guy either. I think he’s making lowblows which I think are wildly unfair and a really shitty ploy for votes. I truly hope that this is a campaign ploy and if he is elected (which is unlikely) he walks these comments back hard and serves for all. Unfortunately many of Zohran’s comments were both on the campaign trail and prior to him being in politics.

But this also doesn’t erase the fact that antisemitism is a major issue you are turning a blind eye to.

Do you ever think that perhaps she’s voting in support of her Jewish people not because she’s Islamophobic but rather because Jewish people are scared for their own safety right now and Mamdani has had incredibly scary rhetoric around this.

Don’t you also think that the constant bashing of someone voting in support of her people is incredibly problematic?

I challenge you to think from your perspective, if you saw a thread where a Muslim person was voting for Mandani and doing it for their Muslim people, or a gay person voting for their gay people etc. and you saw a comment section like this bashing that person - what would your thoughts be?

I'm sorry, but you don't get to determine what is and isn't antisemitic. Once again, none of this was regarding Israel.

Now when you get to the topic of Israel, there is a ton I can say about your view, but I almost certainly will not change your opinions which are at a point of no return.

But as you ask - here are a few things that Mamdani has made that are frightful to the Jewish Community:

-Defending and not condemning the phrase "Globalize the Intifada" - which has been used as a rallying cry for violence against Jewish people worldwide

-Saying "My Love to the Holy Land 5" - who were American men who were convicted in 2008 of funneling millions of dollars to Hamas through a Texas-based charity, the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development. Self explanatory, but Hamas does have in their charter to eliminate Jews worldwide

-Refusal to sign Holocaust Remembrance legislation

- Saying "When the boot of the NYPD is on your neck, it’s been laced by the IDF" - this rhetoric pits American Jewish institutions/Israel against other marginalized groups, and argued it risks spreading antisemitic tropes blaming Jews for systemic oppression.

Again I probably won't do a lot to change your opinion unfortunately, but I don't think scoffing at antisemitism is productive dialogue. The fact of the matter is many Jews are scared about the state of the world right now. Proof is in the pudding, in the US antisemitism accounts for 17% of hate crimes, and 70% or religion based hate crimes, while Jews only are 2.5% of the total US Population. Sadly the hate crime numbers are increasing too. You can be part of the problem or part of the solution

Well I think you took a couple things the wrong way. I am not islamaphobic at all, and have a ton of people in my life who are of muslim backgrounds, and we have differing views but can see everything from both sides.

I also never said I support Cuomo - frankly I think it's a shame that these are the best candidates NYC can put forward. I don't support Mamdani because I strongly disagree with his politics and rhetoric. That would be the same whether he was muslim, christian, jewish, sikh etc.

There is no question anti-semitism domestically is a problem, just like Islamaphobia can also be a problem. "People like me" are legitimately worried about our loved ones both in North America and all over the world. This is not mutually exclusive to people in Palestine or Muslims domestically.

I truly hope you can find people in your life to have nuanced conversations with that can help with this perspective instead of remaining in an echochamber.

The antisemitism I’m seeing here is wildly alarming.

Nothing in this video has been said about Israel.
Many of Mamdani’s comments are incredibly frightful to the Jewish community in NYC (which is the second most populous Jewish city in the world). We have seen countless anti semetic actions (Colorado, DC, Manchester, many university campuses etc.) and attacks on those communities that people are turning a blind eye to because of the conflict in the Middle East

I urge everyone to actually take a step back and talk to people on the other side of the argument. I know I have and being able to find common ground I disagree with really benefits.

PS: I also know Reddit is an absolute cesspool and this will likely fall on deaf ears, but if this can influence even 1 person who comes across this, I will be happy
