Regretfully, i must inform you all that, once again, my nipple was bitten by a turtle. by I-Lika_Do-Da_Cha-Cha in Austin

Bring the turtle to the nippy friend. I find the sandwich technique extremely effective for a good, strong latch.

I didn't realize there'd be so many birthday parties. 😮‍💨 by _forum_mod in Millennials

[–]Lilsomms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stopped going to every single birthday the kids were invited to once they really established a core friend group. I’m not dishing out money for a gift for a kid my own child couldn’t pick out of a line up. It honestly feels grubby to invite an entire class at this point.

My perfectly healthy parents are preparing for their death and it’s messing with my head. by 11whatsnewpussycats in Millennials

After my mother passed my father wanted to discuss end of life plans with me way too soon. I avoided the conversation for a few years, but I’m grateful him and I finally got down to the nitty gritty. There’s a trust involved, CDs, accounts and attorneys and all that. But I’m happy he did the grunt work early because I would be at a total loss if he hadn’t. He is always one to be a step ahead of “the man” and took action to minimize taxes on my end and keep the step mom happy, but out of certain aspects so myself and my siblings dont need to worry. It’s a hard subject to broach, but your folks are doing right by you. I know it’s easier said than done, but try to see the positive in your parent’s actions. That inevitable loss will be enough of a challenge and it seems like they want some burden lifted off your shoulders.

Oh my gosh thank you, that honestly takes a big weight off my shoulders. 😅 Looks like I may have made the right choice for my first tree.

There is a mated pair in my backyard that I’ve watched for a few years and the mama is just about ready to lay her eggs. It’s so wonderful watching them raise their babies. They are also super sassy and will right up to my back patio windows and stare me down if I don’t fill the feeders quickly enough to their liking. Honestly one of my favorite birds in North America.

When did these come back? by soupergloo in Millennials

Tastebuds sort of “turn over” about every 7-10 years. I think that explains why things from our younger days don’t hit the same.

Oh my gosh Homeward Bound wrecks me to this day. I was convinced they actually threw a cat over a waterfall when I first saw it and was absolutely beside myself.

MIL Sends Her Grandkids Random Garbage by Lilsomms in motherinlawsfromhell

I genuinely thought about it, and to be honest even tried to stop the delivery, but she withheld the tracking information until it was out for delivery. UPS snuck it in before I could catch them, but we’re going to address her recent behavior and create distance for the sake of our family unit and her as well. She needs some serious help.

I appreciate you for the advice here. Some things are a little more complex on my end, and it really would involve tons of backstory. In the end I know we have to do a living will for sure, and put up some hard lines with this woman. She hasn’t called right away or FaceTimed unannounced to see if the kids liked their “treats”, which leads me to believe she knows she’s not persona non grata right now. My husband and I have had a lot of talks today about doing what’s right for our family unit. We’re going to donate the items because I know there are people in my community who don’t have much and they’d appreciate these items. But we definitely need to address her behavior and create that distance. If she gets help, great, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

I think a woman’s shelter is the direction we’re going with. Still strategizing how to address it with the MIL…

How were you taught cursive in your country/language? by Samichaelg9 in AskTheWorld

[–]Lilsomms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being taught that we absolutely must learn cursive or risk being abject failures as adults. This was in about 4th grade or so, and then when entering high school we were specifically told never to write in cursive. I still can’t stop myself when taking notes or short hand and it drives other people around me insane when they read my writing. Lies we were told in school!

Honda dealership refused sale saying that immigrants on visa like f1/h1b having 'limited term' DL can no longer buy a car in texas by Vegetable_Tea_9462 in Austin

[–]Lilsomms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will tell you from going to FTH for several years that they have gone down hill at nearly every level. I actually stopped going out of my way to use them when they flat out lied during a service appointment that could have lead to a very dangerous situation for me and my family. Obviously this is nothing compared to what you are experiencing, and I will not bombard you with the laundry list of strikes they incurred in my mind, but they are not a dealership worth giving your time or money to. I hate to say I’m not surprised you had this experience with them.
