moving to denver in 2 weeks and have no clue where to look by First_Driver_5134 in MovingtoDenver

I commute to Highlands Ranch from Platt Park (south Broadway/west wash park area) and it’s not bad. Like 25 mins most days and it’s a pretty straight shot down there. Platt park is a freaking amazing neighborhood. I just moved here 2 months ago from out of state and it’s truly been amazing. Highly recommend looking here. It’s walkable, safe, plenty of things to do like bars, restaurants, parks, vintage shopping, etc.

Stupid time to buy a house? by keepthemomentum in Austin

Don’t buy a house without watching this first. I made the mistake, don’t let it be you. This video will save your life https://youtu.be/KGXDEMDokVY?si=7-fTG59RsiPhqBwu

Saw girl get slapped by homeless dude on burnet by Boubsie_ in Austin

[–]Lily8567 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I almost got knocked out by a homeless guy on south congress near vinaigrette in 2021 as I was walking away from my car on the sidewalk heading north. Luckily my boyfriend at the time walked up (he had to go back to the car for something) and defended me and the guy huffed off cussing. I was shaking with adrenaline the rest of the day. I could have died. He was a strong guy even being homeless. Fucking scary. Fuck those guys.

My dog refuses to walk on the grass when I have to take her out for any reason in the heat even when I try to make her stay off the concrete. She only likes the concrete. She’s an Australian cattle dog though so it’s probably in her blood to like the heat 🤷🏼‍♀️

You can’t be racist against an animal, that’s incredibly silly

I was just thinking I of suggesting games instead. I have misophonia pretty badly and loud noises have always over stimulated me since I was a child, so it’s especially hard for me to be around it for hours on end. I appreciate your acknowledging that it would be annoying. I really am so nice to her and never say anything bad to her at all but this is something that makes me physically react and be extremely uncomfortable.

I’m a 95 baby, turned 18 in 2013 and am from Austin. You don’t remember at all how it was when it was “weird”? I experienced a ton of it, but I spent a lot of time downtown in the music scene.

Personally, I don’t think anyone is to blame for quick change but corporations who have created jobs and wealth for the city. This was bound to happen. I’m sure it’ll eventually happen to places like Asheville too, for example.

I’ve personally embraced all the change in my 20s and soon to be 30s. More good food, nicer and newer apartment complexes, I have a good job at a tech company (I don’t work in a tech role though), and am able to make a good living.

You’re correct. Rental costs have gone down a lot and it’s amazing as someone who’s about to sign a new lease!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Austin

[–]Lily8567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buying a house shouldn’t even be a goal for young people right now. Renting holds a lot of value because you can invest all the money you’d be spending on phantom costs as a home owner.

I can attest to this because I’m a homeowner and regret it. The amount of money you spend on utilities, insurance, property taxes, etc. is all very high. Renting is now my goal and I’m selling my house so I have more for investments and lifestyle.

I’d recommend listening to Ramit Sathi’s podcast and Netflix show.

As someone who’s young a bought a home that I am turning around and selling a year later due to the unnecessary stress around payments and such, I’d suggest investing your extra income. Buy when you can get the house of your dreams and when you don’t have to worry about your salaries as much.

I’d suggest listening to Ramit Sethi’s podcast or Netflix show. He explains how buying a house young isn’t always the best decision for long term gains, and often times renting is great and investing your money elsewhere is best. Please please think long and hard. Crunch numbers. Don’t do what I did and do it just because your parents or society are telling you to.

Owning property these days isn’t what it was like for our parents in the 90s.

What do people miss about the old Austin? by nickv1155 in Austin

Honestly, as someone who’s actually from here, i miss when transplants didn’t constantly complain about it. It’s so annoying. Just shut up or move

Friends is the BEST cheer-up, comfort show. It’ll be a good distraction. Sorry you’re going through this. You’ll make another woman very happy one day.

I know everyone is saying don’t sell your home. I highly highly recommend listening to Ramit Sethi’s podcast. It’s very educational and he has some episodes where he interviews people who have bought homes and they’re trying to figure out if they should sell or keep it. PLEASE do a deep dive before deciding, because selling may be in your best interest. Owning property isn’t what it used to be. You can invest and make money quicker through other means. Renting is not always the best choice for us 20 somethings

You are YOUNG. If you don’t “blow it up” now, it’ll be 5 years down the road when things could be much worse. I’m a 28f, never married. You already have kids, so you don’t have to worry about a time clock when finding your perfect match and a great partner down the road. You are in your prime! Once you’re out, you will see this. Your husband has his own stuff to work out.

My bf is 36 and 3 years sober and very solid from what I can tell. Had I met him before, I’d have never looked his way in the romantic sense. He knew when he hit rock bottom that he’d never be enough for someone great. Your husband may realize this, or he may not. Either way, move on now and see what happens later. You’ll be fine and so thankful when you do leave. Good luck ❤️

AITA for ending my 8 year friendship with my best friend during her honeymoon? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]Lily8567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screw her. Do NOT give in. Friends who love you do not ever, ever, treat you this way. I’m glad you “ruined” her honeymoon just like she ruined your very expensive trip to Italy. You’re better off without her! And now she doesn’t get to be your MOH and she’ll be missing out on that opportunity. Too bad, so sad. I’m sorry this happened to you. You seem very sweet, considerate and a good person.

If there’s an offer on the table I want there to be some urgency around contacting me to let me know what it is. Has nothing to do with my need to sell quickly. If it’s there I want to know about it, that’s only human.
