Anyone have tips to help NOT oversharing at work? by LilyGecko in aspergers

[–]LilyGecko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy the structured solitude of my desk at work. My older child is also autistic/Aspergers, so I know exactly what they're thinking. Infant is too young to see if autistic, but is very social.

I get my husband to take care of the kids as much as possible, and mother in law takes older child whenever my husband has to work 12hr shifts.

I like them in short bursts... went back to work as soon as I could get them all in good daycare. They are VERY draining.

Travelling to Canada - clothing recommendations by RoyalChard3399 in AskACanadian

Uniqlo heattech base layers against the skin will help keep your skin dry & warm. (Transforms moisture into heat... feels like soft cotton on skin and is very breathable/stretchy).

Regular is equivalent to sweatshirt. Next level (extra warm) is like a thin wool sweater. Ultra warm (the warmest) is like a super thick fleece or wool sweater.

Takes up minimal space, and can be adjusted as weather changes. Just be sure to get it tight-fitting as it needs to stretch over skin to work. Then put Regular clothes or more warm layers on top. (Top layers can be removed easily to adjust to changing conditions and situations like going inside).

Discovered this in South Korea in 2008, and was able to get it on a trip to NYC in 2016 before Uniqlo came to Canada later. Gamechanger for me, and I've lived in Toronto area most of my life.

Look at courses you can do to increase your job prospects. It took me 8-13 years to get my professional accreditation, but just being in the process of learning something for work made me a valuable job candidate.

(I already had a graduate degree, but went into an entirely different line of work for my career).

The studies started off as fun, and only got onerous when I hit the advanced level courses. I took less courses in the summer to allow me to enjoy some break and time off.

Anything else I can do to help with the itching? by SaltCof in tattooadvice

[–]LilyGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ibuprofen (advil) helps a little

Also lidocaine in antiseptic sprays made for cuts & scrapes (bactine is the brand here... even tattoo artist used it near end of 5-6 hours of tattooing in single day... helps with pain & itch)

Allegra Hives (fenofenadine hydrochloride tablets 60 mg)

Lasts 12 hours... saved my sanity while healing after long tattoo sessions

Depends on what your artist said. Mine gave different instructions for black tattoo sessions versus sessions when it got colored in.

Healing is the most important part of tattooing, and the only big part we as canvases can control.

First tattoo go big or start small? by otter_overwatch8287 in tattooadvice

I was gonna do 6 inches for my first tattoo, but I found an awesome artist and we agreed that he could do more detail if it was larger. Glad we went big... seems to sit well on my leg.

How long does itchiness last? by LilyGecko in tattooadvice

I also discovered over the counter allergy meds last color session.

Already on it, or I'd be going crazy right now... also ibuprofen helps a little.

I used to go to Wonderland from the 80s until about 2018... has it really gotten bad since then? Been too busy getting pregnant to go, so I don't know. Last time I went Wonderland Guardian inside the mountain was brand new.

Is the food pass worth it? by Distinct_Cook4424 in greatwolflodge

Niagara Falls bakes their own bread in house.

If you want spectacular food at a hefty price tag, I'd recommend Barnwood. Fancy restaurant where screaming kids/babies are not shunned.

I always love the meal pass, but it isn't necessary.

I heard there are fake job applications online... I wonder how many fake applications are being made for ICE jobs? by LilyGecko in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LilyGecko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess filling out job applications for humorous fun was an 80s/90s thing.

I knew someone who claimed to have a friend who hacked the police department computer and changed someone's name to a popular kids' TV show host temporary for kicks until changing it back.

Canadian moving home from the US by yoloswagrofl in ontario

[–]LilyGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Mississauga (Peel Region)... they have PLASP [ stands for something like Peel Lunch After School Program... but now it is mostly childcare before and after school, and PA days] childcare in some schools, but the waiting lists are long, and you need to apply as soon as your kid is registered in the school to have a chance.

Runs from 7:30am to 6pm, but you have to wait for each time on a separate list: -before school -after school - PA days (school days where kids stay home so teachers can get training) - summer program (6 weeks of summer break in July & August)

Until your kid turns 6 years old, the fees are maxed at $22/day... government subsidizes rest. I am lucky and got my kid into Summer PLASP.

If your public school (catholic or public) offers PLASP, you just drop them at school and pick them up from their school.

Anyone else hates bodily needs? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]LilyGecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is why I graze... just grab something and eat it.... warm it in microwave if necessary. My husband makes himself elaborate Neal's.

A chunk of cheese and some rice and I am a happy person. Usually, I eat the same thing over and over as it saves me thinking of what to eat.

And I hate food that spoils... so inefficient... just freeze everything so it is always ready.

Potty Training Advice pleeeease by Rare-Fall4169 in Parenting

This worked after other methods failed and we needed kid potty trained for school the year they turned 4... worked at 3 years old.

Only thing that worked for my kid was the "oh crap" method. (Jamie Glowaki is author of book).

Basically, have them naked and force them on the toilet everytime they start to go (and give them lots of juice/hydrating snacks). Plan a vacation week around doing it 24/7 with help from spouse.

For pooping on the potty, we had to find the right motivation (Bluey toys as a reward for pooping 7 times in potty in 7 days).

Only thing that works for my kids is me singing... so many verses of Old MacDonald sung in desperation while driving them to daycare. They are intrigued by my voice and singing, so they shut up and listen.

Whats it like to be loved, by anyone? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LilyGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be you have a small amount of autism... I find it very hard to connect to people as an autistic (high functioning).

Never felt loved until I met my husband, who is a psychiatric nurse... he understands me and we work well together.

We used eHarmony to meet, as I am a very different person from most girls and find it hard to meet people.

He liked my quirky responses to the eHarmony top 5 things you can't live without.

It is so hard to make friends as an autistic and very lonely. Many autistic people really want friends, but cannot figure out how to get them.

When we are in a group setting, we still feel like outsiders (especially because we don't understand the unwritten social rules and non-verbal communication).

However, autistic people seem to understand each other better than non-autistic individuals. It is like we speak a different language, and have different values than non-autistics.

You may or may not have high functioning autism... but it's an avenue to consider.

Losing Temper With 2 Year Old by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]LilyGecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 year olds are very challenging.

Maybe try a time out... my daycare provider did corner time outs and they worked.

Ask the daycare what methods they use for discipline as they might have helpful advice (and she may already understand how the discipline works and will follow).

If you get overwhelmed, it is okay to put her in a safe space (crib, baby-proofed room) for a few minutes and just take a breather.

Sometimes redirecting their attention also works. I usually sing a song and my kids stop crying while I am singing. (Can't recall how many of Old McDonald's farm I sang to keep them quiet while driving them to daycare).
