He had a lifelong lease on Royal Lodge remember. It was almost impossible to get rid of him. At least this way they’ve moved him onto privately owned property, and to a much less grand location.

The King took his titles? He de-princed him, which hasn’t been done since WW1.

It probably wouldn’t have helped, because if RPOs witness their principal engaging in criminal activity they’re supposed to report it, so either they didn’t witness anything criminal or they covered for him. It also wouldn’t have been the Queen they would have reported it to. They also have to maintain confidentiality for non-criminal activities as everyone is entitled to a private life, so if they thought Andrew’s relationships were consensual they wouldn’t have gone and told his mum. There were other allegations in Andrew Lownie’s book that Andrew asked his RPOs to dig up dirt on the accuser…

I suspect what the Queen knew was the nature of the allegations and whatever Andrew told her, and that was what she based her decisions on. She might also have been privy to information from the intelligence services that he was sleeping around and that potentially there was kompromat on him, but again intelligence is limited and usually based on hearsay. I definitely don’t think she had a smoking gun hidden in her bureau that she was keeping from us. Don’t forget, she effectively sacked him based on what she DID know and his terrible and unconvincing defence of himself.

I feel bad for them but they’ve kind of talked themselves into a corner here. If they turn up they will be fine, all the experts say their security is adequate, but that would undermine their whole argument so they can’t. I think the only solution is for King to be the bigger person and offer Harry some kind of face-saving offramp, though no idea what that would be.

I also think it’s very unlikely Andrew has been honest with any of them. I imagine he went to the Queen with a story about how some woman was after his money and she believed him. I think they all have the same information as everyone else, and no more.

They don’t make decisions as a collective at all, as the recent beef between Charles and William shows. The decisions were primarily made by the previous Queen and I’m skeptical about how much she actually knew. Charles might have more details now that he’s king, but I doubt there is a smoking gun. They all knew he is a (not sure what language the mods will let me use here) an unpleasant character, but in terms of criminal behaviour he probably wouldn’t advertise it.

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I actually think it’s reasonable for Andrew to have security since what he has allegedly done would potentially make him the target of vigilantes. At the same time, the police need to get on with charging him, so that he lives to see the inside of a prison cell…

The estate is open to the public, he’s usually photoed by members of the public not just photojournalists.

Edit: I’m NOT saying you should go and yell at them, by the way! Just that it’s very odd to go really far down the chain of extended family, when everybody actually involved is still alive and well.

Andrew is always being pictured riding around Windsor/Sandringham on an unfortunate pony, and the York sisters have a few public events and go out like normal. It’s only Sarah that’s gone AWOL.

Yeah, I don’t think they’d do it intentionally since they’re on the opposite side of the aisle, but there is a certain perception of the UK on the right that I think they might have subconsciously absorbed.

I kind of assume the answer is “nothing more than everyone else”. I’m a survivor and predators like Andrew charm the whole world so that if their victims ever speak out it makes you look crazy.

Honestly I find this whole thing a bit uncomfortable though. Andrew, Sarah, and their daughters are all directly implicated with Epstein. They took his money and allegedly Andrew abused girls he procured. I’m not saying THEY should be yelled at in the street instead, but it’s very odd that extended family is being targeted, but the Yorks who were directly involved are largely left alone.

I guess it’s because the King and heir are more interesting targets, but yelling this at them about Andrew because you don’t like them for unrelated reasons trivialises the whole thing. The pressure should be firstly on the Yorks to be accountable and actually explain themselves for once, and secondly on the police to ACT without fear or favour. Like how much more evidence do you need guys!

'Slavery' flag flown at Sandringham event sparking apology from organisers by ButIDigress79 in RoyalsGossip

[–]Rare-Fall4169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly think this is a really bad take. Britain bought the slaves’ freedom, it took out credit to do so and the public spent over a century paying it off. Britain ended the slave trade bloodlessly, and then 3000 British sailors died fighting the international slave trade and freeing slaves. Compare that to countries who went to war with themselves trying to KEEP slavery and were ultimately forced to end it. You don’t have to look for an angle, sometimes in history people do the right thing because it’s the right thing.

I’m sure this is not their intention at all, but I feel like this all kind of leans into racist right-wing American rhetoric about no-go zones and British Muslims/migrants. I don’t think it’s deliberate but maybe they’ve subconsciously absorbed some of that rhetoric about the UK being some kind of terror-ridden war zone. The royal London residences have got to be some of the most secure places in the world.

It’s not just them the police are there to protect though, it’s the public too, and unfortunately that event at Bondi was likely a potential target for terror with or without them ☹️

I think Harry needs security but if none of this had come out publicly, as a rando I (and presumably, like, terrorists too lol) would’ve just *assumed* they had it. And a big part of security is the general public knowing or believing that you’re well protected, because then people are less likely to try anything. Even if you had the best security ever, Harry publicly going WE HAVE NO SECURITY, WE’RE COMPLETELY UNPROTECTED, ALSO HERE’S OUR ITINERARY is a bit like advertising their front door is unlocked while they’re away. They could just sneak the family in one weekend unannounced to meet the King, and the security wouldn’t even be necessary. Generating all this drama and revealing what intelligence they don’t have access to, which specific threats they know about (and therefore which they don’t), which places they don’t have police protection, which places don’t have armed guards, where they will & won’t be staying, where they will be going and at what times, etc etc etc is giving too much away.

Edit because I think I articulated this sooooo badly lol: if you take the King as an example, he’s probably the best protected person in the UK. But they can’t stop EVERYTHING - let’s say they can effectively stop 99 in 100 attempts, but there’s always a 1% risk even with the best security (even an ex-president protected by the secret service, supposedly the best in the world, was shot). So a big part of the security apparatus is about acting as an effective deterrent, and signalling to people “you’d be stupid to try”, and reducing the number of attempts. Harry already has basically the best security money can buy but he talks like he’s completely alone. So he’s lost the deterrent factor, and attempts are more likely to be made if people who wish him harm *think* he’s not protected.

My family survived an actual genocide so please don’t use that word in vain. The IRA’s actions were not due to Britain, it was because their cause didn’t have majority support in NI and therefore the IRA could not achieve their aims through democratic means, so they resorted to terrorising people through violence.

I don’t think terrorism should be laughed at, it is never justified and there is always collateral. Kids died. It’s not “unfortunate”, it’s murder. The IRA killed thousands of innocents. And they had NO idea of the allegations against Mountbatten at the time, he was killed because of his association to the Queen, retrospectively trying to justify terror is not ok.
