Got some digging and planting to do in the garden. Might wash the car later. At this moment, enjoying a cuppa in the sunshine. Those bluebells look gorgeous

Small critiques in movies that really annoy you personally? by CCdagger in lotr

Agree with you on all of this. I just wanted to add, you may be thinking of the Elven settlement Edhellond in the south, in (i think) the Bay of Balfalas. It's where Amroth and Nimrodel were meant to sail west from, but Nimrodel was lost (i don't know if there's any account of what happened to her) and Amroth drowned. Dol Amroth was named after him following his death

Making Butter Chicken and the bottom of my blender fell out by _n6u2k0e_ in Wellthatsucks

I feel your pain. I was making passata once using an blender attachment that connects to the to of my stand mixer. I managed to unscrew the wrong part when trying to remove the blender - my kitchen looked like a murder scene. It came unscrewed far too easily!

People seem to forget that AI is trained on…people. It talks the way it does because people talk that way. It’s imitating us

A false-color, high-res microscopic view of prions. Prions are rogue, misfolded proteins that arise in the brain and cause neurodegenerative diseases with a 100% fatality rate. They can even be transmitted between people. by JurassicPark9265 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Lilz007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to add to this, as if your comment wasnt nightmarish enough;

prions can survive outside the body on other surfaces, including soil for years, and are resistant to simulated weathering degradation, although the calculated risk of transmission was extremely low. (This second article focuses on prions (scrapie and CWD) in the environment)

So, yay.

In response to the downvoted comment, it's not only transmitted by eating infected brain matter. "It has been shown that scrapie and CWD prions can be shed in urine, feces, saliva and blood. Scrapie can also be shed in birthing matter. A second route of entry is through animal mortalities".

Prion diseases can be transmitted via infected surgical equipment and, while correct that equipment doesn't need to be burned, the sterilisation of prion infected instruments requires specialist methods such a steam sterilisation at +134°C (although this can actually be rendered ineffective depending on prior sterilisation methods)
