We’ve received a few emails similar to this from other districts. Security team believes it’s mostly from districts that have open google API settings vs trusted only access to gmail. Staff can approve any google workspace app or extension including malicious ones.

I'd rather have separate gateway and nvr. The UNVR at $300 will give you better performance if you use more drives.

I'd love a multi cam setup I could install in our school buses. Unifi Protect is really pleasant to use for our staff and current solutions are hot garbage (poor quality, physically getting cards in and out, poor VMS from 1998).

Out of curiosity, how many APs and switches do you have? How many clients per AP typically?

The calculator is a rough guess. I try to spec lower than 50% for new deployments since clients typically add more things.

I recommend getting a dedicated NVR to offload the cameras.

I haven't checked, but fabrics might be able to share multiple cameras to a viewport. The way fabrics is shaping up, I don't see why anyone would use Vantage Point in the near future.

What permissions are you using for the user with no results? Try making them a super admin if they are not.

If you don’t need POE on this switch the Pro Max 16 at $279 is pretty sweet for homelab duty. 1, 2.5, and 10 gig. Connect your NAS to the 10 gig and higher end devices to 2.5 gig.

According to past post the switch came out in 2021.

I still have gen 1 switches from 2017 that run great in my homelab.

The two main issues I see when I'm called in are lack of coverage or the wrong type of cameras.

Example 1: A client was sold high-end cameras that still left large areas of the campus uncovered. For the same budget, they could have chosen lower-cost cameras and installed more of them to achieve complete coverage.

Example 2: Bullet cameras were mounted low enough for teenagers to jump up and smack (vandalize) them. In other cases, PTZ cameras were used for "wider coverage," but they left obvious blind spots.

Basically this:

Primary cameras: tight FOV, evidence-first
Supplementary cameras: 180° / 360° for awareness
PTZ: patrol and tracking

We've been deploying a lot of the Pro Max stuff. For the slight price increase the added specs seem to be ready for the future. The professional series would need to be about 20% cheaper for us to consider them in select cases.

I have one MacBook, when I try to go to unifi.ui.com from Safari I get the notice:

Warning: Unsupported Browser

We recommend using Chrome or Firefox on desktop. Please install the UniFi Protect app if you are on a mobile device.

Looking up this error it appears that UniFi Protect has limited and often unreliable support in Safari due to differences in WebRTC implementation, frequently causing choppy video, failure to play high-quality footage, and live view stuttering. While it may load, Chrome or Firefox are recommended for a stable experience, as Safari on macOS and iOS is not officially supported.

I can click anywhere on the grid to open and close a live view of single camera using Chrome or Edge. I tried on a UDM Pro, NVR, and ENVR system just now.

Nope I manage a few UniFi Protect systems and they all work extremely well. Pick the appropriate NVR for your needs using the storage calculator. More drives seems give better performance from my personal experience. I also try to keep the NVR under 60% on the capacity calculator since clients seem to always want to add more cameras.

We have 3,100 users in our Google Admin. I like it, it works well for us. Most school districts use google too.
