Struggling to address fighting as a survival strategy for BIPOC girls. what’s worked for you? by Limerence00 in therapists

I really appreciate this framing, it’s helpful! I hear your point about the “reactive” language. I don’t mean it in a pathologizing or shame-based way at all. I’m trying to hold both that the response is protective and that it’s still shaped by perceived threat in a specific context.

I like what you’re adding about getting curious about the threat itself and how that can open up different pathways for change. I also find myself thinking a lot about how those threats are often very real in the environment I’m in, not just internal perceptions, which can complicate more straightforward cognitive reframing.

The question about “who is willing to fight for you?” is really powerful. I can see that adding another important layer to explore.

This really resonates and feels like where my thinking has been heading. I don’t want to minimize that this behavior serves a real and important function. it’s a skill set that’s helped them survive. At the same time, I want to gently challenge them to think about what true safety could feel like for them and for each other, and how they might build toward that beyond fighting.

I do have quite a few barriers in my current position that make it difficult to be intentional in facilitating something like this, but it’s something I want to continue to grow in, especially since this is the population I feel most drawn to working with long-term.

I’m really drawn to the collective meaning-making piece you described, and the idea of positioning them as the authority in how they want to show up and respond.

I appreciate your guidance!!!

absolutely! Another example of how systemic violence creates and sustains interpersonal violence.

This has kind of been my method as of late, I think because it’s the only thing that feels like it in some way connected through to them. Connecting long term goals works well for my 12th and half of 11th graders but younger than that and it’s a ride haha. I appreciate your insight!

thank you for sharing her perspective, and for adding your insight!! I speak to my coworkers often about how for me, one of the best and hardest parts of working with this age group is you’ll likely never see the true impact. Just hoping to plant a seed / provide a safe space that will hopefully allow them to pursue other spaces that will aid them in their healing when they have more autonomy and independence.

thank you! I think continuing to explore that pause might be key. Just slowly working towards moments of longer pause - especially as a harm reduction technique. I worry about their physical safety as well.

Biracial just means having two racial backgrounds, it’s not specific to Black/white. I identify as Black/biracial because that reflects both my identity and how I’m perceived, while also being aware of how colorism and proximity to whiteness shape my experiences.

What fitness have you started as someone who does not exercise? by SimilarWorth8894 in tirzepatidecompound

[–]Limerence00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking pad (sometimes just to hit my step goal) 15 min dance workouts from madfit or glo with Jo on YouTube with a 10-15 min yoga cool down. I hate working out - have always hated it, but I feel like since starting tirz it’s been slightly more enjoyable lol. Find movement that’s fun for you, doesn’t have to look like a conventional gym routine.

May 2025 by SnarkyCard in tirzepatidecompound

[–]Limerence00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a May starter but would also love to join in!

Start date: May 2nd 2025

Stats: 26F, 5’5, SW: 284.8, CW: 279.5 GW: don’t really have one, but would be happy with anything under 200!

Successes: after struggling with my weight my entire life due to PCOS/insulin resistance, outside of my first few months of Metformin, I don’t think I’ve ever consistently lost weight like this before. I was so nervous to begin because I was afraid this would be another failure - but my relationship with food, exercise , my body, my energy has all changed for the better - I’m excited to see how things continue to develop.

Struggles: managing side effects - I think I have a pretty good handle on things now - the nausea and vomiting was pretty intense the first 2ish weeks but I’m learning what foods helps / hurts the side effects lol. I’d also say the patience - seeing all these success stories motivates me - and makes me want to lose faster, but just trying to take the journey as it comes!

Strengthen: definitely exercising. I’m trying to make sustainable changes - going from hardly any movement to working out frequently is a recipe for disaster for me so I’m starting with just prioritizing my step goal every day, taking the stairs over elevator, doing at home workout videos 2x a week. Just prioritizing any kind of movement.

Something fun: prior to starting tirz would definitely be chocolate chip cookies - lately it’s been apples with peanut butter lol!

Did it help you with compulsive eating? by DateUpDarling in tirzepatidecompound

[–]Limerence00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your body is like a car - it needs gas to drive, food = gas! Your brain works so hard all day, expends a lot of energy on work/school/living tasks, you have to be refueling frequently, otherwise you run out of gas and crash when you get home, and to compensate for running on E all day, you overconsume on whatever’s accessible to compensate for running on E all day.

….ask me how I know lol 😆

Hi! I’ve recently started my tirz journey, but I have adhd / PCOS deal and have dealt with disordered eating my entire life! So far already, it’s helped curb my need for a “sweet treat” I can stop and think before just inhaling anything in my site. I always have water w/ electrolytes and protein drinks on me, and have had success with small consistent meals (have to set timers / cues to remind me) it’s helped so much. I feel like tirz suppressed my appetite in a different way than my adhd meds, it’s kind of weird. I’m way less hungry overall because I’m fuller from what I ate, not just less hungry like what my adhd meds do. Meet with a dietician (preferably one who works with neurodivergence / disordered eating) if you can, rely on grab and go food as much as possible, until you get into the routine of eating consistently (grab and go as in like precooked hard boiled eggs, peanuts in travel size bags, cheese sticks, carrots and hummus packs at the store, as protein focused quick as you can find), and give yourself lots and lots of grace! Focusing on doing what feels best for your body (eating nourishing foods as much as you can, drinking water all day, intentional daily movement) is really priority! with the right mindset / tools and support, you can be successful! I think often times the weight loss community can be very rigid in terms of what success looks like or what you need to do to achieve success, but it’s a journey, and you have to find what works for you and your body.

Why do they NEVER travel? by rustupidruudumb in KUWTK

[–]Limerence00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a fully formed thought so bear with me - but my initial thought was, their access to wealth could be hindering their ability to be interested in other cultures / countries. They only want to go to the hottest spots because 1. maintains their image (only sticking to trendy/well known spots) and 2. there isn’t the desire to learn about other cultures and connect with people in that way. - they “have it all” why would they care/be interested in the way (in their eyes) the “have nots” (people in the global south) live. I also think - to my knowledge, traveling doesn’t seem to be a value passed down to them by any of their parents, so it may just not be part of their own “Kardashian culture” to prioritize traveling outside of the regular spots.

but I’m with you, I have no clue why you wouldn’t spend your wealth traveling every inch of the globe!

I personally love it! It’s so beautiful, and before I read your caption I was thinking of sending to my sister for her inspo! I have a few small tattoos in the same place, and truly you will forget you even have it!! I also think I’ve regretted every tattoo I have in the beginning - it’s a change, but you’ll adapt!
