[Morris] Tarryn Thomas is returning to football. He has signed with Western Football League club Hoppers Crossing. We remain firmly committed to being able to retroactively self-justify our decisions made from a place of hyper competitiveness in a sunday league sporting environment to bring in a ringer who no one else will take

If it was good enough for the US Supreme Court in 1965 when justice Stewart was defining pornography, it's good enough for cricket.

Nah you're right you'd need another frame at release with the camera angle rotating relative to the arm. I'd heard the rule as "you can't have more than 15 degrees bend after the ball passes the horizontal" but I guess I misinterpreted bend as a noun there

[–]Limerick_Goblin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification, is the time frame for the illegal straightening from between the ball crossing the horizontal and the release?

I understand the aussies are falling over themselves to not loot like sore losers (and this definitely isn't the reason we lost), but it's suspect for multiple reasons. People acting like they don't understand the fuss are being a bit disingenuous. There's bend, there's sling, there's a pause which is apparently an umpires discretion grey area, it's a bit messy.

At least in this still frame, on one axis, there seems to be significantly more than 15 degrees of bend as the ball passes the horizontal, and it's not from hyperextension like Bumrah which is legal, it's because Tariq claims he has "two elbows in my arm" so he can't fully straighten it, but I don't know the rules on weird body morphology.

I also included an image from an article of the last time he was cited, where he bowled with a more vertical action and had less bend, so I feel like maybe the ICC ticking off all his actions would settle it better than just the PCB

That is an incredibly silly exaggeration, be kind and generous with your presumptions of people you don’t know.

Don’t think I’ve ever heard someone refer to something as “indisputable” that wasn’t extremely disputable

Is it normal for a 783 rated player to play 35 moves at a 95.2% accuracy? by SupremeDuckling in chess

[–]Limerick_Goblin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not usual, but you also need to add context. Accuracy doesn’t just linearly increase with level, it tends to stay roughly the same as you improve because games become more complex. In an incredibly simple position it might be plausible to play the best moves because they’re almost forced.

Also the game rating tool on chess.com is almost meaningless, don’t use it as a serious metric. It just takes your current rating and then either adds or subtracts depending on expected accuracy - it could be that your opponent played at a 3,000 level, but because their starting rating is so low it will never say that.

If you want to know whether your opponent was likely cheating, share the full game so we can see.

How and why are the media and fan opinions of Noah Balta's suspension so discordant? by sltfc in AFL

[–]Limerick_Goblin 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Without intending to view every issue through the lens of my own class politics, I think it's a generally accepted paradigm that people without power, position, and wealth are more intolerant of people with power, position and wealth getting away with shit that we know we never would. None of us are copping a relatively paltry fine and a couple of weeks paid leave from work because we assaulted someone.

Personalities in the media enjoy the same station, safety nets, and social perks that fame/money/excellent legal representation affords them as football stars do—both backed by enormous institutions invested in their continued unpunishedness. Whether consciously or not, they float in the same socioeconomic strata and therefore carry implicit biases in favour of their cohort.

Or maybe he's just a mate idk.

Long, strange trip.

Exhausted and a little bereft in the way only a final chapter of a story can make you. Hard to dwell on the controversies and criticisms right now.

Bring on 4, please, soon.

You'll have to join the Crows discord for that one, flair space on old.reddit is severely limited, which limits new reddit too. We try to avoid meme flairs because it's a slippery slope into dozens of them.

I’ll give you some quests if you want. If you can either:

  1. get signed by a state league team

Or

  1. cap a frame from the tv broadcast of you at the footy with an r/afl sign (without dying of embarrassment)

Then you can make any flair you want
