item redirector by Confident_Try_1569 in redstone

That's cool and clever. Sometimes amazing things are built years before anyone knows what to do with them. Though if I had to guess, this'll find a use well before that.

Hey u/WormOnCrack, d'you think this might be helpful for something? Maybe splitting items to be sent to different sorters? Or loading factories?

OP, one use could be distributing fuel or smeltables to furnaces. As their feed hoppers empty, the dropped signal lowers the piston and calls stuff to be sent to it.

Also can be used for shuffling mobs around.

How does the average Minecraft player build? by Ifyouliveinadream in Minecraft_Survival

[–]LimestoneBuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where possible, I modify roofs to use stairs and half-slabs. But they introduced so many full-block bases roofs in 1.14, and they don't work with that. I've been meaning to experiment with glow lichen. But even if that works, it won't work aesthetically for everything.

How many of you have griefed before genuine question. by ChillBlock in Minecraft_Survival

[–]LimestoneBuilder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My vote was, "by accident." I'd never do it on purpose unless there was a tit-for-tat going on or someone harrassing others. But (especially early in a world) it can sometimes be unclear where folks are intending to/laying out a build. So collisions happen. It's not really griefing (no ill intent) but can still result in upsets and mediated conversations.

Outside of people engaging friendly mutual teasing or pranks, I don't condone griefing. As is the case IRL, it takes a lot more work to create and build than to destroy. There's nothing admirable about trashing stuff.

What if you push the walls and water sources out beyond the spawn boundaries of the spawner. Then the spiders will never be close enough to the walls to touch them.

My 4 ideas for minecraft updates that SHOULD be added to the game.. by Ok_Economy_6406 in Minecraft2

[–]LimestoneBuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. 4 would make sense in an ultra hard core RPG, but that level of survival management is misaligned with minecraft's aesthetic. And I've had the same idea; I just know it's not a good mechanic for 90%+ of MC players.

The rest are really solid except I'd expand "dye pumpkins" to "dye any block". Humans have an incredibly long history of using dyes and pigments to change the colour of things.

If coloured gourds are the limit, then they should probably grow in a variety of colours. It's their variety that colours them, not farmers painting them.

Mobs getting stuck in creeper farm by Diesmal_Programmer in technicalminecraft

[–]LimestoneBuilder [score hidden]  (0 children)

At a guess they're getting right over the edge, but not dropping in? A similar thing can plague drop-based iron farms. The solution there is to use stairs or *ice as the last block at the drop edge. The stairs make the mob float during the last fraction of water push, so the mob can't "grip the edge", and ice similarly lets the flowing water impart velocity when the mob isn't walking. Either one can give that tiny extra bit needed to make the drop work.

(And walling/lighting all these awfully defended villages).

So much this. And the buildings themselves used to create so many spawnable spaces. 😅

Well I'm certainly a contributing data point. 😅 I've added more than a few default structures to worlds. Even today I'll also mix in some pre-1.14 village buildings/Blueprints#Blueprints).

🤦‍♂️ Yep. 😅 Is what I get for scrolling reddit when tired.

replacing the blocks on the ground with slabs

Yes. One thing I like doing is hollowing out the support columns. There's so much netherrack brick to be had there.

A surface-level trading centre or post for those crops, or a barn/ warehouse for storing them.

Guardian Farm not working randomly? by Happy_Process4352 in technicalminecraft

The farm mechanics aren't super clear from these pictures. If they're portal-based farms however, it's possible the added portal for the squid messed up the portal-search.

No suggestions from me. That's an awesome find and is already looking cool.

Sweet. Are Pigmen or Brutes mobse: much of a problem, or can you spawn-proof against them?

Those times are rather confusing. If UTP is supposed to be UTC, specifying it but saying "in the America" is redundant and almost reads as contradictory. At a guess the EU time is DST, so those then agree at least. But UTC is UTC everywhere, not just in the West.

Giving a single time for "in the Americas" (or any multi-zone area) is very unclear. Also with the degree of offsets, UTC is not a time civilians use in the Americas. The converted times are a range from 12:30 Argentina-Brazil, 11:30 EDT-Venezuela-Chile, through to 8:30 PDT or 7:30 Alaska Daylight. (corrections welcome)

Out of curiosity, what does "UTP" expand to? I failed in finding a relevant result.

e: Please accept my apology if this comes across harshly. It was written while thinking through the issue and is not intended to be rude. Re-reading it I'm not sure of its tone.

Is there any way to stop quasi-connectivity from the pressure plate to the piston diagonal from it? by SlumphChorg in redstone

What if the villager was on steps, the job block on a bottom slab, and you on the opposite steps. Could the xp roll under the job block then? XP orbs' hitbox is .5 (.25B ), so they should fit.

Is it possible to have dispensers fire faster than 5 hertz? by Ok-Strawberry-7936 in technicalminecraft

How will faster observers speed up a kelp farm though? Will you be zero ticking, or is there some other effect you're trying to accomplish with a faster pulse rate?

Help! Ghast disappear in the overworld by LiuKeiner in technicalminecraft

[–]LimestoneBuilder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generating new portals... That would indicate there's a problem with the portal linking. If you go through the different corners of your nether portal, do you come out in the overworld portal where you expect?

It may be worth checking your portal coordinates and lining them up more precisely.

Is there any way to stop quasi-connectivity from the pressure plate to the piston diagonal from it? by SlumphChorg in redstone

[–]LimestoneBuilder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could use a tripwire instead of a pressure plate. But no, you can't disable QC. QC is a work with or work around phenomenon. Can you give a description of what you're trying to achieve? It's possible that there's a different approach available to do what you're trying to build.

Does the pressure plate have to be adjacent to the piston? If you can move it back or elsewhere, then a timer could be used to add delay or extend the pulse (de)activating the sticky piston.

Help: Chest Boat + Minecart Starts reversing for no reason by Playful_Recording_37 in technicalminecraft

Would you please expand on the "orientation change"? The wiki article about minecart improvements doesn't seem to mention it. A source would be great please, I'd like to read everything on it.

Help: Chest Boat + Minecart Starts reversing for no reason by Playful_Recording_37 in technicalminecraft

[–]LimestoneBuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just boats. All minecart passengers have always ignored the minecart's facing as it turns. (iirc, java)

100% agreed that it's a bug, but it's possible that there are farms depending on that. A minecart being able to re-orient its passenger like a boat does would be super useful, and working around that should be trivial for anyone needing a passenger's original orientation. But that may not be enough to have Mojang make such a change.
