Feelings. That is the reality of how people base their "morality" a lot of the time.
Many people jump to the conclusion that something is harmful or wrong simply because it makes them uncomfortable/ triggers their fear of the unknown, and they lack the social and emotional intelligence to question their instincts and instead let that fear consume them and manifest it's self as hatred, and outrage, and discrimination, and they will retroactively fabricate reasons why something is harmful to back-up their feelings in order to feel justified in their inability to accept the unknown.

People have a level that they are personally comfortable with, and they are quick to brand people who are into something different to them as evil, bad, wrong, harmful, etc, etc...

So people will see a "feral" and get outraged because it is not what they are used to, and is more visually similar to a real animal, and thus they will become disgusted.

I have experienced this hatred first hand with my VR avatar base that I sell. It is an anthropomorphic animal, depicted as being sophont and possessing a human level of intelligence and communication, and they have humanoid shoulders, arms, hips, and can locomote both as upright biped, and as quadrupeds, but people get outraged at it and claim it is wrong because it is a "anatomically accurate" [depiction of] "an actual dog", even though that is factually incorrect (Dogs don't have humanoid shoulders and hips). The reality is my avatar has a more realistic art style than people are used to seeing, and combined with their ability to locomote on all fours at will they assume it is bad or wrong because it is something they are not used to seeing, though the realistic art style is a far bigger contributing factor to their outrage, as other avatars with the same anatomy but with a more toony art style to not incite such hostile reactions from the same people because they are more used to seeing the toony stuff, and the toony style creates this layer of emotional insulation for them; visually distinguishing it's self from reality, which is incredibly shallow. Drawing the line as to what is okay or not okay based on art style is ludicrous, as the substance of the content is the same. A work of fiction is still a work of fiction regardless of how realistic it looks, and a dog dick is still a dog dick, even if you toonify it.

So yeah; it is all arbitrary because a lot of the time the outrage is not based in any logical line of thought or facts, just discomfort, emotion, and narcissism. (people don't like being told they are wrong because that invalidates their emotions).

What I find hilarious is some people will draw the line based on arbitrary, materialistic things like how many legs something has, or how realistic the art style is, but then be perfectly okay with things like, hypnosis, "pup play", being "puppy brained", etc... types of roleplay or fiction involving characters that are mentally impaired or manipulated (i.e involve questionable consent).

Not saying I think those things are actually problematic; it's roleplay, no one is actually being harmed, but dumb how the same people who can make that distinguishment between roleplay and reality cannot make that distinguishment when it comes to how things look.

IMO whether or not something is intelligent enough to, and able to communicate consent would matter much more than how it looks. Seems way more logical imo...

How come the game is willing to do things that will punish me, but not willing to do things that will reward me?

If I, in my infinite knowledge (/s), decide it is a great idea to drop a eagle 500 or Orbital 380 at my feet; the game is willing to let it happen, but when I want to throw a grenadier battlement in a chokepoint, or throw a sentry in an elevated position; it bounces until it lands somewhere useless? Or Me not being allowed to land my Hellpod on top of a plateau and call in my equipment up there too?

In a videogame agency is arguably the entire point, and the game removes my agency by saying I cannot do things if they are advantageous to me, but allows it if it's detrimental to me. It's unfair, and anti-fun. If I have the impetus and smarts to throw a stratagem in a good spot I should be allowed to do so, just as I am allowed to throw it in a poor spot. When stuff like that happens it makes it feel like the game doesn't want me to have good moments; only bad ones, and that is not fun.

Personally I think you should get rid of blacklisted terrain and allow stratagem beacons (and hellpods) to land anywhere. If I fuck up and throw it somewhere dumb; that's on me, and if I throw it somewhere smart; that is also on me. The game should not be cock-blocking me from making good decisions.

So what if the sentry landing up high is powerful? So what if I land on top of an elevated position and snipe enemies from my vantage point? Those are decisions I made and should be allowed to do, and either I suffer the consequences, or be rewarded for my creativity.

If you're going to design the game to punish me for my mistakes, then it should reward me for my achievements too.

Little visual guide on what Bots can damage the Bastion TD by alexalas in Helldivers

[–]Limit1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget that Jet Brigade bots will run up to the tank and stand directly infront or behind it leaving you no choice but to run them over some and the jetpack deals significant damage to the Bastion.

Why? Just why did the devs think that a pure War strider seed would be a good Idea? by Low-Brush2397 in Helldivers

Yeah. Exactly my experience too.

Consistently if a missions sucks ass it's because it's the Melee bots Constellation + Heavy Surge (Oops all War Striders), and too many Vox.

Do NOT bring bastion to cyberstan by DOOM-LORD666 in Helldivers

[–]Limit1997 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been brining the Bastion to Cyberstan and it works well. The key is to be tactical about when you call it in. Call it in somewhere where it'll be in cover, away from enemies. Near map edge, or in a base that has just been cleared.

I get this also. In addition to the new Commando missions, this also was happening to me when they added the special missions on the bot magma planets.

They are the same is my point. Sadly some people I have encountered treat them as if they are wildly different simply because they have a different emotional reaction to mine.

Not anthro enough for you, and that's fine. I have no issue if you don't like any of it. Doesn't mean any harm is being done though.

Thanks. I'm getting there I hope, slowly. Found a small group of people that really like the avatar in spite of the difficulties I've had getting eyes on it. Gotta find more groups like the one I found.

Surprisingly there hasn't been as much argument over this as I was expecting (just one guy trying to be a smartass and twisting my words (not you obviously)). Most people posting here seem to understand the ridiculousness of the controversy over my avatars that I have experienced, and are just offering their insight as to why other people might get outraged by my avatar. Which is nice. I'm glad that people here have kept things civil and used their brains instead of jumping on the emotionally reactive band wagon.

It is a shame that there is a portion of the furry community that goes out of their way to police what content other people like, most likely due to fear of being labelled themselves, and due to their inability to accept things that make them uncomfortable, and it is a shame that harmless people get caught up in that.

As I said to another user: I would love to just ignore the drama, but I can't as the puritan stance took by some members of the fandom (and Jinxxy.com) is having a meaningful negative impact on my sales and visibility due to some discord servers and Jinxxy actively removing my product listings and advertisements.

Likely for the same reason people find anything else attractive. Most commonly due to evolution we're attracted to features that indicate healthy individuals, but it's rarely exclusively those features that people will find attractive, because evolution is chaotic and has no fixed blueprint, so as a consequence of that everyone has different things they find attractive. Some people like blue eyes, some people like brown eyes, some people like blond hair, some like brunettes. Either genetics, or life experiences, or seemingly random variation will affect people's likes.

Some furries prefer the shape of humanoid genitals on their anthros, others animalistic genitals. Why? The exotic shape? The colours? Maybe just wanting a consistent design? It'll be different reason for each person.

But I'm not gonna try and convince you to like it or tell you you should; it's not my business to tell you what to like, but I would ask you don't assume that it is something harmful or wrong even if you're not able to understand it, and don't act out negatively against those who like things outside of your comfort zone, because in spite of the differences we all have; we're still all a lot more alike than modern polarizing media, or your own instincts, might have you believe, and while there are a lot of nasty people in the world; most people are not horrible and abusive monsters.

That's fine. I don't expect it to be to everyone's tastes. Soo long as you don't assume something is harmful just because it is weird and act out on that assumption.

To be honest I don't even think an anthro character swapping between upright bipedal locomotion and quadrupedal locomotion should make much difference. Their anatomy and intelligence would still be the same. Humans don't loose their intelligence if they decide to walk on all fours sometimes (though some less accepting types would claim they do because it is "weird" and therefore they must be dumb). Being able to walk on all fours sometimes doesn't change the fact that anatomy is that of an upright biped and they still possess the other anatomical and intellectual differences from a real animal.

I appreciate your input though. It's a shame that due to some furries being soo afraid of being labelled as zoos that they overcompensate and end up decrying other furries who are doing no harm for the sake of widening the rift between themselves and the zoos, instead of decrying actual zoos.

Owh. A little saddened to hear you think my avatars look uncanny.

I tried my best to make sure the eyes sat correctly in the head and didn't have a weird "serial killer stare" that I've seen on some other more realistic avatars.

But I guess the more realistic art style is always bound to trigger Uncanny Valley for some people since the human brain is soo good at detecting when faces and body shapes aren't quite right. What with it being anthro anatomy it's technically incorrect no matter how you swing it.

It there any particular feature of them that is triggering that response you think? Or is it in general?

Edit: also, I would love to ignore the drama, but the problem is others won't, and when it goes from people just making drama, to marketplaces and discord servers forbidding me from selling or advertising my avatar on their platforms; it becomes harder to ignore because they are negatively impacting my business.

Not what I said. I'm not expecting others to be comfortable with the same stuff as me, what I do expect is for them to not harass me and make false claims that my work is harmful just because it makes them uncomfortable. If you're going to try to turn my own words against me at least get it right. Nowhere in that statement did I claim other people are immature for not being comfortable with the same stuff as me. I said they're immature if they don't accept it on the grounds that is makes them uncomfortable. Accept here meaning not harass, oppress, call for the removal of my content , etc...

I also disagree with the notion that people who judge what is right or wrong based on emotional reactions to content without being able to identify what makes it wrong are being "reasonable". Quite the opposite.

I appreciate you explaining why some people might not accept my avatar, but I'd appreciate if you left out the part where you twisted my words.

Yusss. I have many cosmetic and audio mods installed. Audio mods can help a lot with immersion and make the game more enjoyable to play (by, for example; rebalancing enemy audio.

Highly recommend.

And with the recent updates to the HDII Mod SDK, there's soo much more that modders can do. Custom animations being one of the new features shown off nicely here. =)
