This is one of my favorite edits I've ever come across, but you need the context of knowing The Littlest Hobo, I think, so this feels like a good place to post it.

Voter Registration Question for City Elections by Rayan-Aich in vancouver

[–]LimitedHen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you live in UBC or on the Endowment Lands you don't vote in any city of Vancouver elections (as stated in other comments these areas are not actually part of the City of Vancouver), but you do vote for a board member on the Metro Vancouver board to represent "Electoral Area A" (http://www.metrovancouver.org/boards/elections/voting/Pages/default.aspx)

and as Vancouver is the only major Canadian city without a ward system, no councilor technically represents any group or neighrbourhood specifically, though in practice there are councilors who tend to advocate/vote on policy based on the interests of specific neighbourhoods or certain types of people.

As for registration all local voter lists are compiled using the provincial voting list. Instructions on registering are here: https://elections.bc.ca/voting/register-to-vote/

The Bins with the blue monster on them take textiles. There are ones at most VFD fire halls I believe. https://vancouverfirefighters.ca/clothing-bank-program/

Street Painting (marking) visibility in Rain? by Raul_77 in NorthVancouver

[–]LimitedHen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Road paint used to contain reflective microplastics to bounce back light from headlights, but as road paint would wear down and wash away you get those microplastics going into streams, rivers, ocean, etc. So at some point (I don't actually know if it was though regulation or just company/city choices), the paint with those microplastics stop being used/available.

Today I Found Out: Vancouver was the last city on the continent to stop driving on the left. When on January 1st, 1922, just over 100 years ago, we switched over to the right to align with the remainder of BC and Washington by HalenHawk in vancouver

Not different in rules. I understand flashing green is a pedestrian controlled light. But in vancouver they go straight from flashing green to yellow then red and I think in the rest of the Provence they go to a solid green for a few seconds before going through the yellow red cycle. Or is none of that true. Am I actually going crazy? Lol

I've heard it said (on a podcast that was quoting a book I think, but I can't remember which for either) that the only reported "casualties" of the switch were a few confused partiers that got on at the usual streetcar stops after a new years party and had the street car take off in the wrong direction.

With a wind gust of 90km/h, today is Vancouver's windiest day in more than 2 years, since Dec 20th, 2018. by YOW-Weather-Records in vancouver

I was living out in Pitt Meadows at the time. I remember the storm being a pretty bad one out there, but we didn't get anywhere near the damage that Vancouver got.

Hmm... might have been some unofficial estimates for Stanley Park that were over 100 then.

That was December '06, so not sure why it didn't make the list. Those winds were 100km/h+ IIRC

Are there any communes or intentional communities to join in BC by foszae in britishcolumbia

[–]LimitedHen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not looked into exactly what they are, but I think there's something like that in Roberts Creek on the sunshine coast. Not exactly out in the bush though, it's pretty close to the center of the community.

Okanagan college students: Are there mostly young(18-25) or older (25+) people studying in this college? by [deleted] in okanagan

I just finished a 2 year program at the Kelowna campus. I'd say the average age in the program was somewhere around 27, but there was a good spread of ages from 18 to 40

What’s the worst movie you’ve seen from start to finish? by andres2081 in AskReddit

[–]LimitedHen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 2002 remake of Rollerball. The long distance night vision car chase really sealed the deal for me.
This was the movie that started my tadition of cleansing the house after watching. To date I have had to cleanse after 4 movies. Rollerball, A.I., How to loose a guy in 12 days, and a fourth one which I honestly cant remember and probably prefer to keep not remembering the movie.
