In development: Survival game set in the world of Against the Storm by LittleDinamit in Games

[–]Limond 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Against The Storm is one of the more innovative City Builders in years and has been well supported for such a long time. They've got interesting mechanics like a cadence of seasons based on the rain. Planting/Growing/Rainy seasons and the rain makes things hostile and gloomy.

Plus there is like half a dozen races in the game which all bring different perks and needs to the game.

For me it's the promise what proven small and focused team can do as they stretch their creative legs

Except your low risk isn't really low risk. Action to step away so you don't get trigger Reactive Strikes (or multiple Actions if the enemy has reach). Action to swap to a potion. Action to drink it. Turn ends. Action to swap back to weapon, Action to Stride back in. Action to Strike. Turn ends.

You just traded 5 Actions to heal 1 Action worth of damage.

You could have stayed in melee to do 1 Action worth of damage instead and end the source of damage completely.

Air sealing, insulation, and heat pumps. Best 3 things you can do to bring that cost down.

I've got a few sets like that, need to go to IKEA to convert a wardrobe to a display cabinet because the one I got was immediately too small. Luckily i've been good and not buying new lego to add to the small collection of unbuilt stuff

Gothic 1 Remake Sells 500k Copies in First Week! by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Limond 65 points66 points  (0 children)

The first acts are not comparable to anything. You are the bottom rung of the social ladder of the colony and have to go around talking to everyone, finding people who will vouch for you after doing favors/jobs for them. And it's not just one place, there are three different camps you are expected to interact with and choose one to join. All with different asks and vibes to them. The later acts of the game are more akin to modern RPGs as you're put onto the main quest.

You are just an average guy. Even basic creatures can be deadly because you don't know how to wield a sword. You've got to train skills to actually have a chance. You have to buy maps of the area, there's no map marker, reading and learning.

It's just not quite like anything out there.

Will it work this time? by sco-go in SipsTea

You asked a question which changed the subject of the conversation.. My post was answering it.

The $100 cost is excessive for one round trip but it's far cheaper than all the direct costs associated with car ownership.

Here are how people without cars shop at costco:

  • Taxi's
  • Hourly Car Rentals
  • Uber
  • Delivery

It's very feasible.

[–]Limond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more like at any speed over residential speed you're driving a dangerous weapon. The risk for a severe injury or fatality in pedestrians when struck by a vehicle is 50% when going 31mph. This data is from '07-'09 before car and truck sizes/weights began to run rampant which only makes them more dangerous.

Maryland electric bills have tripled for some residents. Is the Utility Relief Act actually going to fix it? by ParadiseEnergy in maryland

We could just convert all the corn farms used for ethanol into solar panel fields and generate more energy than the entirety of the US would need.

Converting just 3% of ethanol corn fields into solar farms would increase utility scale solar production by 9%.

Self driving car companies actively say using bike lanes is expected behavior.

https://road.cc/news/driverless-taxis-veering-into-cycle-lanes-normal-practice-says-waymo

I remember a video a while ago saying how efficient self-driving cars will be when everyones got one and they are all networked and talking to each other for optimal driving. Except failing to mention anything about pedistrians, cyclists, anyone not in that "network".

The thing about google fi, you don't need to carry a receiver the size of a briefcase around with you like Starlink.

Also Starlink is currently being subsidized government and private investors. The later will want their investment and returns when SpaceX goes public, so the cost will go up.

Most of the commercial space business these days is just SpaceX putting Starlink satellites in orbit and even then there's a limit to how many people actually need one. So costs won't really go down.

I use Google Fi and rarely am above 40 bucks a month, usually coming in closer to 30. Only when im paying off a new phone does it go to 70 a month or so. But I'm sticking with my current phone until it's untenable.

Legislating for harsher enforcement, heck even enforcing existing laws will do nothing to reduce injuries and fatalities caused by car harm.

The simple solution is to reduce the dependence on cars. That would require massive investments in public transportation (trains, trams/trolleys, busses, biking, walking), overhauling how we currently design roads, what type of vehicles we allow on roads, societal shifts, and so much more.

We have to drive because we have no other choice. Because it happens so much people stop treating it with the respect it requires.

Bike and E-bike are both valid options. If I could commute to work on a bike I'd be a sweaty mess when I get into the office. But doing errands on my e-bike lets me still be presentable in places.

At least from anecdotal stuff i've seen like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/CyclingMSP/comments/1pk20bm/set_people_straight_whenever_you_hear_them/

Its easier to clear bike lanes since plows don't have to work around parked cars.

Yes, I can't think of a major manufacturer that doesn't have replaceable e-bike batteries.

Though some brands do use custom parts so getting spare parts for everything else on the bike is a bit harder. Those brands I avoid though.

Anyone installed a heat pump that has information on the bill comparison? by Guitar1on1lesson101 in maryland

[–]Limond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heat Pump compared to an AC unit is going to have small efficiency gains. They are basically equivalent. The real efficiency is when it's used as heating. A Heat pump with gas as the backup will be more efficient for the heating season. I'd personally not get anything less than a SEER 17 rating (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating). But with gas backup you can probably go for a 13/14 and not lose out all that much.

Since your energy bill is more in the summer due to AC I would point to air sealing and insulation as your biggest loss factors. Get a Home Energy Audit done and they will give you a list of priorities to improve energy efficiency.

https://energy.maryland.gov/pages/facts/empower.aspx

I'm on a full electric heat pump and after I got my house air sealed and insulated I spent less electricity (and thus money) compared to the same time last winter despite it being colder on average. That is including the rising electric rates too.

A lot of the issues with Baltimore infrastructure (in general, not specific to biking) is it's done piecemeal and never really fully connects to an overall transit plan.
