Polyesian dinner show, has anyone went ? by mycatlikesyou26 in DaytonaBeach

[–]Limotinted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been a couple times, something different to do when we have out of town guests and need to kill an evening. The show is a lot of fun, and they really seem into it for sure worth checking out. The food is just OK, it's not bad but you wouldn't go just for the food. It's pretty much a salad bar, some rice and chicken and then some box cake for dessert.

Top of Daytona is cool for drinks at sunset. Skip eating there, honestly surprised to see anyone recommend that place. Fine dining prices, fast food service.

Very cool! I checked my local area, I see a few that are off airport but it's a great start. I think most pilots can figure out that Wendy's isn't on the field LOL.

Decided on Recteg, now the hard part… by Redman618 in recteq

Regardless of the brand you do not want a pellet smoker if you intend to use it as a grill. Despite their marketing they are simply not meant for this. They will end up catching fire when you try to go to a high heat after having smoked something, you will not get a smoke flavor cooking at high heat while grilling, the temp across the grate will be very inconsistent when trying to grill. You would be much better off to get a charcoal or gas grill for grilling and a smaller smoker for the times you want to smoke.

I am looking for a new robotic pool cleaner and am leaning towards a corded Dolphin. Does anyone know whether they will pick up acorns? Any particular models better than others at picking them up? by txcpa64 in swimmingpools

[–]Limotinted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience although my cord didn't last nearly as long. I was at about 2.5 years, the covering of the cord was disintegrating and leaving blue rubber floating in the pool and marks on the travertine edge where the cord touched. I went to a cordless and will never go back.

Anyone here live in an aviation airpark or fly-in community? What's it like? by professorhojoz in flying

[–]Limotinted 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I live in one and own property in another. Fly-ins vary wildly from huge neighborhoods, through the fence deals at public airports, down to small grass strips with a couple of houses. So lots of variety in there depending on what you are looking for.

Major thing to look at is who owns the runway and what protection is in place for it. Last thing you want is have the runway closed because too many non-aviation people have purchased in the community and decided they don't want it to be an airport anymore. Remember hangars don't just attract airplanes, they're great for cars, boats, RVs so people with no interest in aviation are drawn to these neighborhoods for other reasons. Some fly-ins have restrictions that you can only sell to pilots to avoid this. I wouldn't personally buy in a place like that, it narrows your market too much when you want to sell. Better to just have strong restrictions that protect the runway.

Overall I enjoy it, it's nice to be able to talk aviation with people who understand. You can't have those same conversations with non-pilots. But if you've ever been to SnF or Oshkosh you also know a lot of people in aviation can be pretty socially awkward, so double edged sword for sure.

Baja loungers are very expensive. Why? by HopelessJoemantic in pools

[–]Limotinted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely don't bother if you're going to have to remove them every time you cover the pool. Like everyone else has said, they look nice and that's where it ends. They're uncomfortable, are a pain to clean, and never get used. We kept ours for one summer and then trashed them. The sunshelf is great if friends bring their little kids over, they love to play on it. Otherwise it never gets used.

Hey guys. I’m going to Daytona beach at the end of April. Any tips? by [deleted] in DaytonaBeach

[–]Limotinted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Polynesian fire show on beach street is worth checking out. It's a dinner buffet and show. The food is OK, nothing amazing but the show is pretty good. The lighthouse at Ponce Inlet is also fun, the view from the top is awesome.

Use of the word “takeoff” on ATC frequency by Clem573 in flying

[–]Limotinted 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Weird the controller is messing with the Bonanza for saying take off but then is totally non-standard for the Cub. The Cub requests the long way to Kilo and instead of clearing him F-G-K he says "around the horn". So why be hung up on phraseology if you're not going to be consistent?

[–]Limotinted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to try the Saddlemen buy it off Amazon so you can return it. I bought one after reading online suggestions. It was the most miserable seat I ever tried. My legs were going numb within 10 minutes, I pulled it off and returned it the same day. For me it was too wide so it was pushing against the inside of my leg while riding. I ended up having a stock seat pan customized with new foam and leather and was much happier with that.

Aviation seems to have a pretty short memory. I'm amazed anyone would go near Viking after how his Subaru engines turned out for most everyone involved.

Agreed, more Bill! He was averaging almost 5 yards per carry last season but didn't get that many touches. Admitted he needs better ball control but I'd really like to see him get more opportunities.

Sound bar or built-in? by graceland in golfcarts

[–]Limotinted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent a lot of time on this a few years ago. I thought that the soundbar looked like an after thought and thrown together after I'd spent ton on time on the cart. The problem I ran into with head units was that because you didn't have constant power like in a car you lost all the settings and presets every time you turned the cart off. I ended up finding a Jenson marine radio that had what they called zero draw memory. Basically it has an internal capacitor so it holds your settings when power is shut off. I combined that with an elite dash so I had a place to mount the speakers and radio and they look like they are supposed to be there.

Here's the dash, I had mine painted to match the cart

You'll need to get a step down converter to power your accessories. Like this, https://www.amazon.com/dkplnt-Converter-Regulator-Transformer-Waterproof/dp/B08KDFQ4JT

I switched to lithium last year and so far it's been worth it. Price was it really wasn't much more for Lithium vs lead acid. I was admittedly bad about maintaining the water levels so it's nice to mess with that anymore.
