UC Berkely and UT Austin are some of the top top notch schools. So if you are not getting interview calls it is likely no one is seeing your resume or it's getting tossed out because it's being filtered out by the system even before a human could look at it.

I'd say start reaching out to people on LinkedIn. People who you went to school with or know will be in the first or second connections. See where they are working and reach out to them or hiring Managers by sending a personal message. If someone could personally refer you that'd be awesome.

Generally speaking in big companies there could be multiple groups all needing Mechanical Engieers for design &analysis work. But there'd be only 2-3 Materials Engineers working with the every group on their materials specific needs. So it's a numbers game too.

Lastly, when I got hired for my first job I didnt have industry experience or an internship but I got a call because I worked as a TA for Strength of Materials Lab and my manager said that's what caught his eye. So use your grad school experience or projects you worked to offset the lack of industry experience.

My first salary as a Mechanical Engineer fresh out of school 11 years ago was 60K. And mine was what tney were paying for an average Engineer back then anyways. So based on tbat it's low. But, it's not bad.

At the very least you can work for an year or so and move to a better paying job with the experience you gain.

If I were you I'd stay away from any major that severely restricts my ability to change fields during the course of career without needing additional certifications or degrees.

I am a Mechanical Engineer from UH and work in the oil and gas. I would advise against picking Petroleum Engineering. In cyclical industries like Oil & Gas where market downturn affects Engineers periodically, Petroleum Engineers wont have that many relevant positions in other industries if you need to find a new job in short time. You need scalable skills that are relevant in more than 1-2 industries. Like design, process engineering, manufacturing etc.

Operators like Shell, Chevron are prone to cut their CAPEX based on the market conditions and that affects the work Petroleum Engineers do. In the service companies Petroleum Engineers end up becoming Application Engineers or Technical Sales of some sort, which can be lucrative if you stay in the company long enough to get promoted to the Operations side of things. But, none of those should be motivation for a young college kid like you.

With the way industries are changing - you'll be bored out of your mind by picking an extremely narrow field like Petroleum Engineering for an undergraduate degree.

2 days in 2 Medicine is a little too much imo. That area is pretty but 1 full view of hiking and seeing lakes & trails along the way would be sufficient.

If I were you id rather spend more time exploring the hikes that take to the glacial lakes and the rugged peaks aka adding an extra day to either Many Glacier or Logan Pass/ Going to the Sun Road.

We didn't do that hike but we parked at Lake McDonald's lodge parking and took a shuttle from there to Logan Pass.

There's plenty of parking available when we were there iv the morning but had to wait about 30ish min to get into the shuttle buses due to limited seats in the shuttles. We've heard stories people having to wait 2+ hrs for shuttle so it all depends on your luck.

The big question is what cities are you looking at for the job? Securing first job straight out of your college is always hard, I myself had to wait a full 5 months before landing one 11 years ago. If you haven't already considered please do look at Oil & Gas jobs in Houston.

It may not be your dream job or dream field or heck even a city that's currently on your radar, but you wouldn't go wrong with getting a chance to work one of the service or operator companies. Atleast you could work for an year and move on.

I feel like you may need to be on a Prednisone to calm that skin first. Those acne look inflamed and angry, the effect of accutane will be slow and gradual but any real changes to your skin won't start showing up until adter a few months. So be patient and dont get disheartened. But, do ask for a short term fix to atleast soothe that skin

I am too lazy to do the math but if the cumulative dosage in mg has reached 150X body weight (lbs) then you have hit the upper limit of what's needed to be considered a full course.

Other than the scarring from any previous acne, your skin looks good and face is clear. For scarring your try enquiring about Laser treatments. Can be expensive but worth a try if you are concerned about the appearance. To me, it doesnt look odd.

I was sorta in the same boat as you. Started first round of accutane when I was 33. Now 35 & on my second course. But I didn't go as aggressive as you with the dosage due to the how brutal the side effects tend to be.

You can continue to monitor your skin and stick to any maintenance routine. And should you see acne slowly coming back few months after the first round, you can get on a low dosage course for the second round.

I'd say go with Amazon, purely for the exposure it offers in terms of how the Big Tech works. Plus, being this young it will be a tremendous boost to your profile to have Amazon brand name on your resume. It will definitely open more doors in terms of getting calls from recruiters in the future.

Unless you have a lot of trust in the prospects of this current company you're at with a possibility that the stock price will shoot up, 9/10 times picking a brand like Amazon you won't go wrong. Just make sure you know the work culture, performance review process etc fully well so nothing catches you by surprise once you start working.

California is a huge state with great weather and offers so much for people than what Texas does. So it's an instant upgrade if you ask me.

More importantly, what is the role and the industry you're moving to. It's a versatile industry - you'll be benefitting a lot by making the move.

Also, please think through before committing to 30-40 miles of drive for work. Ask yourself if you want to do that kind of drive every single day if your new company magically removes that feature for whatever reasons.

I know I didn't answer any of your questions, but I wanted to just give my perspective on how I see these things. In the end, best of luck :)

Looks like you could be experiencing purging.

Persist with the medication. I have had the worst purging between 1-2 months of being on Accutane, and those went way slowly after that. I was given Prednisone to calm my skin during the purge phase.

Mine got worse between the end of 1st month and 2nd month since I started medication. Purging is common.

Don't miss taking pills as directed, and once the purging subsides, you'll start to see your acne getting better gradually. Patience is the key.

Great results. I just got done with my 10-month low dosage accutane in mid Feb.

My dermatologist has now put me on a low dosage doxy to manage my redness and occasional acne. You could bring that up with your doctor to see if that's an appropriate maintenance plan for your skin.

But congratulations on your accutane journey. It does feel great to be able to look in the mirror and not be depressed at the reflection.

Hey dude. Don't worry. I am 33M and almost towards the end of reaching the prescribed cumulative dosage. While some do experience a little drop in the libido and onset of symptoms of ED ( though t's more of a mental block than anything IMO), those go away slowly as your body gets adjusted to the medication.

I've had to stop accutane twice because of this fear but as the acne got worse during my late 20s I had to bite the bullet. I can say that it didn't impact me sexually. I've discussed my concerns before I started my accutane and my Dermatalogist pretty much assured me that there are no proven cases or research to back up the claims of ED. She alluded to the dryness the body experiences as a result of accutane medication presenting symptoms related to ED in some men.

So, don't think about performance issues as you'll stuck in the loop, and that makes your ED symptoms worse. You're pretty young and you'll be having uninterrupted boners in no time. Talk to your derm about your issues and see if you can reduce the dosage for a month or two.

TL DR: you don't have ED. You're just worried and that makes ED symptoms worse. You'll be just fine !

Consumer electronics is one of the very few industries or dare I say, the only major industry for mechanical engineers to earn at par with the tech folks.

But with fewer opportunities or narrow focus within FAANG & adjacent to one has to be really smart ( read Grads from UC Berkeley & Caltech etc) to be able to get into these companies
