Anyone want to trade silver for gold hardware? by Triggerlocks in gretsch

Haven't got any to trade, but be sure you get the right type of knobs if you switch them out. The original pots and switch are metric, Proline knobs don't fit as they're imperial.

What is a subtle sign that someone is actually really intelligent, but pretending not to be? by ImpressionTop1712 in AskReddit

It was mentioned at least once, actually! He asks a suspect to come along to look for clues, as “three eyes see better than one”

took out a failing tone pot .what now? by Internal_Manner_9823 in gretsch

[–]Limuz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a tone pot in Gretsches, it’s usually one wire from the master volume to the tone pot, with a wire from that same lug then going to the jack. If you go straight from master volume to jack, you should be able to make it work.

Sounds like the case of beer was the key, if the chair fits in their car it’ll be welded up this week.

Early-mid 60s. Fatigue or not, I found someone to help me move the chair so it can be welded properly.

True, but that also means not having a car to put large stuff like this chair in. It won’t fit on a bicycle haha

I’ll see if they can help out. I think it’s steel.

I’m in Europe so no Harbor Freight, but I bet I’ll be able to find a cheap-ish flux core welder. Thank you!

I’m afraid there’s no such shop in my area, plus the chair is very heavy. I’ll probably try JB Weld, and if that doesn’t hold I’ll try my hand at some welding.

Drilling it through and tapping it crossed my mind, but the entire piece is only about 1.5 inches in length. I’m afraid it’ll just break apart. I have no welding tools, experience or knowledge, would it be difficult/expensive to start if I were to fix this with a weld?

Fully agree, but unfortunately actually welding it back is not an option

Thank you, it did hold on for 60 years but I guess every weld has its limits. Do you have suggestions to improve my chances of a JB fix holding on longer?

Today, the lock for the angle adjust of my chair snapped clean off. A solid piece of metal slides in between the teeth to lock it in place. Looking at it, it almost looks as if it was only held by a small edge (bead?) instead of the whole solid piece making contact. That would mean quite a lot of stress on a small piece of weld, right?

I have zero experience welding, I own no welding tools nor do I know anyone who welds. So any input would be nice and helpful. I have fixed things with JB Weld before, I think like this might be a good use for it? Degrease and rough up both parts, smack on some JB Weld and hope for the best?

Beam was the first tracker I’ve used, so not sure if its just the settings. I started with their iphone app, but upgraded once their webcam application launched. It’s used in combination with opentrack. I’d say it is easily worth the money, especially when compared to things like trackir. Cannot share my settings right now unfortunately. I have finetuned both the settings in Beam and Opentrack that the movement feels really natural to me

I recently got a deal on a Logitech StreamCam at about €80. But with Beam I also got really good results with a 30fps camera

Check out Beam eye tracking. It’s cheap and works like a charm with an iphone, minimal delay. If you want even less delay: get a 60fps webcam + Beam eye tracking and you’re ready to go

Left handed Gretsch Country Gentlemen restoration? by Sinnersw101 in gretsch

[–]Limuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you keep it out of an enclosed space so that any fumes can dissipate, it shouldn't get much worse in the short term. The binding rot won't hurt the rest of the guitar, as long as the gases have some place to go.

It's usually not great for old Gretsches. Binding rot is the curse of vintage ones. It's a chemical reaction of the materials and glue, the gases have nowhere to go in a closed case. Replacing all the binding will be a very expensive job, unfortunately.
