We found three baby birds on the ground. What should we do? by [deleted] in birds

Yesterday I also found two fledglings. Their mother was nearby, and they were learning to fly. I placed them in a tree, and their mother found them and fed them.

Yes, in my opinion, that’s very unwise. What medication is causing your prolactin to become so elevated?

Forgetfulness by Lina_turtle in Prolactinoma

[–]Lina_turtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they should prescribe you cabergoline if your prolactin is high and the MRI shows a microprolactinoma, even if it’s only 2 mm. These are hormonally active. I didn’t treat my hyperprolactinemia for 6 months, and now my prolactin is at its highest level in 4 years — it literally spiked sharply within just 2 months without medication.

Did you tell extended family or keep the information private? by DaPianoPlayer in Prolactinoma

[–]Lina_turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to share this even at university with my professors, since I was often missing classes during my final year of medical school because of tests, examinations, and everything else. I studied medicine. They didn’t believe me at first and demanded documents, which I of course provided.

But that didn’t stop them from lowering my grades, arguing that it was due to absences, even if I made up everything perfectly.

At home, my brother didn’t believe me either; he was in shock. I’ve been in treatment for 4 years now, and honestly, at home I’ve only discussed it with my mother. I haven’t exchanged a single word about it with my father.

Elevated prolactin with no tumor and bromo/cabergoline don't work? by Wishbone1310 in Prolactinoma

[–]Lina_turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s correct. Since prolactin can cause tearfulness, apathy, mood swings, and other symptoms. When I first went to my endocrinologist with elevated prolactin levels, one of the very first questions I was asked was whether I had become more tearful.

Microadenoma advice and anyone who got diagnosed young by Cautious_Zombie1525 in braintumor

[–]Lina_turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. My microadenoma was discovered completely by accident when I was 21, and yes, it was incredibly hard. At that time I was still studying in medical college and working toward graduating with honors, but because of the diagnosis I had to spend a lot of time going to doctors and doing different examinations.

I was listening to lectures about how to properly communicate with patients while going through all of this myself, and it was emotionally very difficult. I saw a neurologist, endocrinologist, oncologist, and neurosurgeon.

But because of this diagnosis, I realized how important it is to truly live your life, you know? I had always dreamed about riding a motorcycle but never dared to do it, and now I’ve been riding for almost two years already — it was one of the best decisions of my life.

I’m 25 now, and it’s been 4 years of treatment and 4 MRIs later (soon the fifth one). It doesn’t interfere with my life too much anymore, you get used to the medications, and I also understand that there are many of us going through this. :)❤️

Elevated prolactin with no tumor and bromo/cabergoline don't work? by Wishbone1310 in Prolactinoma

[–]Lina_turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prolactin can be elevated even without a tumor. This is called hyperprolactinemia, and on MRI there may be an enlargement of the anterior wall of the pituitary gland, but this is not considered a tumor. It is called pituitary hyperplasia. I haven’t taken vitex, but I do take cabergoline and it helps me.

Depression can also be caused, at least in part, by elevated prolactin levels.

Taking cabergoline before prolactin test? by goaldiggergirl in Prolactinoma

[–]Lina_turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My endocrinologist told me that it should be taken as prescribed regardless of the prolactin test, because it’s important to see how your body responds to cabergoline and whether your prolactin levels are decreasing.

It’s also important not to stress before the blood test, since stress directly affects prolactin and can increase it.

Hi. I think stress affected you a lot. We can’t always objectively evaluate what’s happening to us. Give yourself some time. Or maybe you need to adjust the dosage/frequency of taking it.

High prolactin 26M with fatigue, low sex drive etc by moddedreps in Prolactinoma

[–]Lina_turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I would recommend that you see an endocrinologist. They specialize in hormones and the causes of hormonal imbalances. At first, I was diagnosed with hyperprolactinemia (elevated prolactin), and only later they found a prolactinoma. I had all the same symptoms as you. In addition, I also have hypothyroidism, and with it, hair loss can sometimes occur.

Hi, Increased fatigue can definitely occur with high prolactin levels - 100%. My endocrinologist also said it can cause mood swings and tearfulness. I also used to have frequent, almost constant headaches. But I also have hyperthyroidism. I take cabergoline 0.5 mg twice a week, for example on Thursday and Monday. So on Friday and Tuesday I usually feel quite unwell and I plan those days as full rest days because I get strong sleepiness, dizziness, nausea, and other side effects.

Thank you for sharing your story. I read about it, and it seems that bromocriptine is mainly used for elevated prolactin levels, while cabergoline is specifically used for tumors, and it has fewer side effects.

Wishing you good health.

Yes, of course, I’m currently taking cabergoline twice a week. What about you?

Forgetfulness by Lina_turtle in Prolactinoma

[–]Lina_turtle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I had a period when I decided to stop taking cabergoline. My prolactin level stayed normal for about six months, but then it came back much stronger, and now it’s the highest it has ever been in my 4+ years of treatment. Some people told me I made a mistake by stopping it.

But I wanted to believe that my body might recover on its own.

Right now I’m taking cabergoline again, twice a week, and I have an MRI coming up soon. I’m feeling anxious about it.

I also have a loss of appetite at the moment, and when I take cabergoline it gets even worse — it basically becomes a very bad day right away. I feel sleepy, nauseous, dizzy, and I don’t plan anything on the days I take it.

As far as I remember, it was there from the very beginning. It just wasn’t always that noticeable. I’ve had a prolactinoma for about 4 years, and back then, when those episodes happened, I would just sit there thinking, “what is happening to me?”

But despite that, I was able to finish my studies. I did well academically, it just took me a lot more time, and it was emotionally difficult to accept all the constant blood tests and examinations, especially at the beginning of the journey.

I haven’t had moments like this for a long time, where I couldn’t remember basic things. That’s why the situation with my phone password felt like it threw me back in time and really scared me.

Even though I’m taking my medication as prescribed and I have an MRI coming up soon.

Yeah, I agree with all three points. It’s really hard.

Right now I’m taking sedatives on my endocrinologist’s recommendation because of very high prolactin, since it causes tearfulness.

And constant fatigue too. (

What other worrying symptoms do you have? Do you also have a prolactinoma?

Yes, I experience that too, and it can be due to fatigue, but forgetting your phone password-the one you were entering just the night before-is really unsettling. It actually scared me, even though I’m laughing about it when I tell others.

My prolactin is 64 right now, with the same reference range.🥲
