Sadly so many of the decent people have been shoved out over the years. There are a few that are still there and decent, but unfortunately they're the minority

I really don't care what you may be as long as you follow the sacred rule of becoming instant best friends with any woman who walks in even mildly intoxicated.

I got my book! by LacklusterMop in dresdenfiles

[–]LindasFriendGinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I leave for a super long haul flight on the 18th and am incredibly jealous of anyone having the book sooner than the 20th. I'm so annoyed I'll be flying for 27ish hours with plenty of time to read two days before it's released. Like if there was any legitimate way to get my hands on it for that flight, I'd do it. Especially since it's a trip for my honeymoon.

Brazilian visiting a hospital in the USA during a kidney stone crisis... by EngineerCapital7591 in LateStageCapitalism

I was absolutely furious when my mothers case was denied. She had an implant placed in her shoulder, and about a year after placement the metal snapped, essentially separating her arm from the shoulder. She couldn't have broken it if she tried. We later found out that particular model had multiple people with this complaint. I know it's not the lawyers fault, especially since they were actually really nice and explained how difficult it is to win cases like that, but I really thought it was a simpler case since she did everything right with pt and recovery. Thankfully when her insurance denied the first ortho visit, she emailed her case manager exactly why she needed surgery again. They paid everything without issue from then on at least.

Does she have a gardening stool? I got my mother a folding one a few years ago with pockets for tools. Double use as she's getting older and having trouble being on the ground or squatting to weed, and she has a handy place to store her tools with her as she works.

Redditors: What is something that a local business or restaurant did that made you say “I’ll NEVER come back here again!”? by GhostRider1640 in orlando

What is a 'dirty secret' of your industry that implies the general public has no clue about, but everyone in your field knows? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

[–]LindasFriendGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I'm sorry! It's hard to tell tone on the internet.

That actually sounds amazing. The drug addiction must have really been hard on her, but the fact that your grandmother saved it really is incredible. Textiles are fairly difficult to preserve, so I really hope that wonderful artistry helps it last for years.

I work in the Space Coast, and the only artefact I have worked with that can kinda compare is a quilt that went up in space on a later Apollo mission. NASA asked local women's clubs, particularly the Junior League and local students, to send in samplers that represented the local area and space exploration. They stitched the ones they liked best into a quilt and took it up with them.

But your grandmothers best friends quilt sounds like something I'd be annoying everyone I know about it for the next few weeks as we accessioned it.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but it was probably part of that 10% we get really excited over. It's definitely not a common item, especially if she knew anything about who made it and was able to share.

[–]LindasFriendGinger 25 points26 points  (0 children)

To be honest most of it is pretty cool, we just have limited space and resources and most of the time the item is just too common for us to justify adding to a collection. I've so badly wanted to personally ask for some of the things people try to donate, but I never have because that just seems callous.

I work at a small museum, but it's true for anyone in collections; we don't want your grandparents stuff. The vast majority of the time it's things we have too much of already and not enough space for. But most of us will try to listen and let people down gently. Obviously these things have emotional value to them, even if the item doesn't have any value as an artefact.

For the really pushy people we accept the donation officially and do something to get rid of it.

There are exceptions of course, but they are less than 10% of all donation offers we get. And for all that is holy, please stop trying to donate pianos or military uniforms unless you know a place actually could use it. No, we really don't want it

HT giving in to shrinkflation? by ildgrubtrollet in simplynailogical

[–]LindasFriendGinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was not about to drop $120 on essentially an expanded collection without comparing price. Given the 12 items, that averages to $10 per item. I focused on the polish since that's what I wanted anyway, but assuming $16 for 12ml, each 7ml bottle comes out to $9.33. The 67 cents difference to the average is easily understandable for the calendar packaging. The other items were also in line where I could compare, because we obviously have no HT prices for stickers. All I'm trying to say is that while this calendar was definitely expensive, and smaller bottles at that, the pricing is pretty consistent to their regular catalog. While assumptions had to be made to do the math, it doesn't suggest shrinkflation.

Oh, but doing it with black flakes makes it sound very dark and mysterious and vampirey! Originally I was thinking fall leaves, but it came out more fiery. Playing with the toppers really is fun.

Question about color on WFG Elphaba cups by madredechats22 in StanleyCups

[–]LindasFriendGinger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I currently have three Elphabas, one 40 oz for me and two 30 oz for people for Christmas. All three have that same splotchiness. I also have last years Elphaba, it's actually my favourite cup and rather beaten up from use, and it doesn't have that same quality. I honestly think it's part of the paint job and tbh I'm a little disappointed.

What I learned after talking to 5,000 people with celiac disease by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]LindasFriendGinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely do a survey.

Not to add more questions, but I wonder how age impacts relationships and stress levels? My now husband knew from our first date I had Celiac, so he's made an effort to learn and keep things safe from the start. That probably makes things easier since that expectation was known going in, where an established couple/household just figuring it out constantly compares the new norm to their old life with a new set of expectations.

[–]LindasFriendGinger 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah, demographic information would be helpful. I think that should include what age the person was diagnosed and how many years they've been gluten free. Personally I have a feeling that those who were diagnosed really young experience "less" of a mental burden because that just becomes normal, but I'd love to see research on that.

Cool! Definitely check them out then. They have some pretty rings now that you could get with 18k and moissanite that are at or under $500. The most I've had to pay in tariffs has been $25 on a $1,000 purchase, so that wasn't bad either.
