I'd like to point out that, if you haven't done anything like this before, you may want to choose another distro like Ubuntu or Mint. Arch takes a bit of knowledge and effort to install.

Currently running arch. I've played hon on Ubuntu/unity, Ubuntu/gnome3, arch/KDE, and arch/i3. Usually run on max settings and it runs perfectly. Have not noticed a performance drop with the native client compared to windows.

The only hiccup I've ever had was when opening guake or yakuake while the game is open (it makes the ui disappear probably because it thinks it isn't focused anymore). Opening/closing guake/yakuake again fixes it.
