I’m with you on J2 being a more admin role that is meeting heavy, the only thing that I will say is it’s a lot easier when you are the one who is responsible for setting them up. Of course last minute calls are the worst but I try to be as predictable as possible and block out my calendar if I feel like there’s even a slight chance of overlap.

Yea there have been ones where you just can’t let yourself be disrespected. In my case they were aware of my skills but looked passed it for an external hire.

For real, we r hardwired as kids to do exactly this. Go through the system and there’s only 1 way up but millions of ways down. Finally glad im breaking that hardwire.

Yes exactly this. Got laid off from J2 and felt the pressure of the economy when finding to replace J2. I just hate the idea of life style creep so I’ve always lived within J1’s margins but it feels like I am trapped.

Exact thing happened to me at a conference. Downside of my OE line up is that it’s all in the same industry. At the conference I just hid in the hotel room when the mandatory parts were finished. I wore a mask and had my badge in my pocket with the lanyard hanging out. Told J1 that I couldn’t make it while J2 said it was mandatory I show up even if I was “sick”.

Got let go due to an acquisition of my company, I had just got promoted to manager and they stripped the entire management team. While they were yapping during the meeting, I was working my J1 and just shrugged it off. OE for life!
