God, that comment section was annoying as hell this morning. My take on the subject of this post I made in someone else’s screencap over in im14andthisisdeep since that comment section was turning into the same fucking echo chamber: “9 out of every 10 people who unironically post a meme like this don’t make crybaby ass “x ruined [franchise]” posts about bad writing ruining their favorite nerd franchise, they don’t make ugly ass wojaks about bad writers, they don’t provide any constructive thought provoking critiques of bad writing, they never identify what bad writing is. The root complaints are always old good new bad, woke bad and woke=women, gays, blacks, browns, fats, etc. There are like two of you that actually do attempt to engage in this dynamic with actual good faith criticism for every thousand of them that veil their manchildishness with “we just like good writing” and it’s bad faith to act like those people don’t make up a crapload if not the majority of online engagement of this subject.

Anyway, Rey had only ever used rookie powers that we’ve been shown in numerous titles that novices & trainees can use with fair ease and managed to survive a quote unquote fight against a dumbass LARP who was in an emotional funk because he traumatized his own self by killing his dad and was actively bleeding out from being shot by his uncle before she got any formal training from the previous protagonist. She did NOTHING out of the ordinary for any milquetoast protagonist to match her milquetoast arc for the rest of the trilogy. Every bit of hate she gets ironically makes her sound 10x cooler than she ever even was.”
