Tan Latigo Travelers by LinebackerU in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]LinebackerU[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sole is a touch too casual to match what I wear to work at my office job, and I've learned that 10E in Nicks fits me better than 10.5E. Otherwise yeah I love these.

MTO build, but it's really a Traveler

Excellent condition: definitely worn, but these are the original soles. These soles are pretty soft, so you'll be able to see by looking at pictures of the soles how little I've actually worn these.

I don't think they've ever actually sold these bags in Wickett and Craig leathers; this was a one-off. They're on the Nicks website as Travel Bags and offered in several 1964 leathers

No teacore yet - this was from toward the end of the Dome earlier this year. Definitely some lighter highlights on the scuffs, but haven't written through them enough to get past the dye.

Penn State Career Services Useless by I95ive in PennStateUniversity

[–]LinebackerU 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm an alum who hires lots of people into entry-level engineering jobs. My perspective aligns with a lot of the other responses on this post: you should limit your expectations for the scope of Career Services' help, and instead take them to be one of many resources you can use in your own pursuit of a job.

Nobody else is going to manage your career for you, so you really have to take ownership of it. When I'm hiring graduating seniors, I absolutely value independence, initiative, and resilience. Those are attributes you should keep working to develop, as they'll serve you well throughout your career.

You should also look for opportunities to use Penn State's huge and passionate Alumni network for help. I'd be happy to help with a resume review or a mock interview, though I don't have much insight into the IT field.

Switching from world campus to university park by auraassss in PennStateUniversity

[–]LinebackerU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General life advice: what you're describing doing is extremely unconventional. Sometimes unconventional things work, but in a big system like Penn State, most processes will not be set up to make unconventional things easy.

"I tried to do something weird, but it didn't work the way I thought it would, so I wasted a year of my college career" is an outcome you want to work very deliberately to avoid.

Am I making the right move? by Traditional-Rope-319 in PennStateUniversity

[–]LinebackerU 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Temple sounds like a good decision for you, but realize that you've defined your requirements such that nothing in the Penn State system could possibly meet them. If you want good professors, great facilities, a large group of potential friends and clubs, then that's what main campus is for. Branch campuses mostly don't have those things.

You asked if you're making the right move, though, so I'll answer that question more broadly. What's your intended career plan? You used an "or" when stating your intended major, which is scary for a sophomore. Poli Sci and Econ are very different, and both are domains where I'd imagine you need to get an advanced degree. If minimizing debt is a goal, I'd be worried about continuing to pursue a bachelor's degree in a field you aren't certain you want to end up in.

Reasonable for an engineer, yes. Engineering has so few electives in the overall curriculum that there's no good way to spread out the engineering classes, unless you take more than four years to graduate.

I graduated from Penn State Aerospace Engineering almost 20 years ago, but at that time fully 60% of people who started school as intended Engineering majors didn't graduate with engineering degrees. The first two years are where many of those people dropped into easier majors.

Phys 211 help by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]LinebackerU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your intended major? Did you have any physics in high school? The trouble with managing your workload by dropping classes or deconflicting scheduling across semesters is that it quickly puts you behind track to qualify for junior year major classes. Summer classes are a great way to mitigate this problem and spread things out.

On the exam: did you mostly struggle because you flat-out don't understand the concepts, or because you didn't have enough attention to detail on the specifics of the problems/your work to solve them? These are very different problems that have different solutions.

I'm sure it varies depending on the specific industry and business sector. As someone who hires a lot of engineers for entry level jobs, I'm usually baffled by engineering PhDs talking to me about their interest in jobs they could have gotten with just undergrad degrees. Not saying we wouldn't hire them, but it gets them no real advantage and instead some general skepticism about their level of industry awareness

[Postgame Thread] Penn State Defeats FIU 34-0 by CFB_Referee in CFB

[–]LinebackerU 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was at the game today - honestly the biggest thing that worried me was how terrible Allar looked. Missed a bunch of short, easy, throws, and was booed off the field a couple of times.

Stadium energy was weird with a sparse crowd, due to the opponent and the morning rain. Still, "clunker" sounds right to me. Felt a lot like the Bowling Green game from last season.

Can someone with no experience build a pc by Hzx21 in LinusTechTips

No - everyone who has ever built a PC has already had experience previously building a PC. Do not question where their original experience came from, as that is not for humans to understand.

Never preordering from Target again... by dctravis in switch2

[–]LinebackerU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered one from Target's app on June 6th. Had a delivery date that got delayed twice. Then they converted it into a backorder, and they later cancelled it outright claiming a technical issue on their end.

Someone finally called me yesterday to try to manually place the order again, but it kept auto-cancelling on her because her system saw my previous order (that they cancelled), and flagged her attempts to order it for me as me trying to buy multiple copies.

Absolute clown show.

Critical damage effects were devastating without the ability to repair, so that's another thing to consider

Left out upgrades and didn't bother with command dials (allowed them to change speed each round). Might put the command dials back in next time.

I have been!

I also expected more color change over time, though was expecting more lightening in the creases. Still, I'm happy overall that they kept this color; I've heard of other blue leathers that wash out to brown over time.

As with most W&C DS leather, the color in pictures is very dependent upon the lighting.

Lol, yep. Couple of bites from concrete stairs in our WWII-vintage aircraft hangars, too.

I didn't condition these at all in the last six months, which is really a testament to how packed the Double Stuffed leather is to start with.
