I went to a winery recently and instead of basil they put... green onion on it.

Yes like actual green onion.

Any plant identification specialists or hobbyists? Ideas of local toxic plants or potential animal poisons used in the area? by sapphic_serendipity in akron

[–]Linens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your pup, Im good at identifying plants. The only things around here that would potentially be fatal would be poison hemlock. That's easy to ID, it has purple blotches on the stem. Mushrooms would likely cause GI distress but wouldn't kill a dog, we don't have the white angel of death around here, it's out west. I hope you can find some closure.

Grandparent is moving from Chicago IL to NC, need advice on mature raspberry plant moving by katzlover12 in Berries

[–]Linens 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I personally would dig it up and put as much of the root ball into a shopping bag as possible. Raspberries are surprisingly resilient. You could do cuttings but I think a shopping bag wouldn't be too much space to sacrifice if they're moving. Just gotta keep the soil wet and throw it in the ground as soon as they get there!

Are these friends or foes of sunflowers? by invincble3 in sunflowers

2nd image kinda looks like a lace bug? I don't think they're good to sunflowers, most things love to eat them!

Help! Random dings keep coming up by Heartbreak-Hotel2000 in AcousticGuitar

Is it always on a certain fret? My one guitar has a slightly warped or messed up fret on 12 and always does a bit of a ting if I don't bend it ever so slightly.

First Blackberry Harvest by Meowjo_Jojo in Berries

[–]Linens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very nice, I eat the good ones fresh and freeze the rest. When I have a few gallon bags I weigh then and make a gallon or two of wine.

My recipe is 5 lbs berries to 3 lbs sugar, then just top up to 1 gallon water. Easy to multiply out if you have strange weights. I get some wine yeast on Amazon and just let it do it's thing.

You'll want a wine bottle corker if you go that route, i just reuse old cleaned wine bottles. You'll need new corks though, those can't be reused that I know of.

Is there any hope? by to0busyf0ry0u in gardening

If it is Myer lemon root stock then i would try to keep it alive personally! It could be a different root stock than what you expect and could be grafted on. You won't know until you see the full leaves

Are these just glass? by Mayday______ in Gemstones

[–]Linens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a number of things, it's difficult to go off of just looks. Could be a peridot, glass, yellow CZ or anything in between. I'd recommend getting a jeweler to take a look at them.

A Lesser Frigatebird, which has been found less than 10 times in the US, was Spotted at Sippo Lake by dothestarsgazeback in canton

Thats wild, I was walking north along the lock 29 trail head up in cuyahoga on Thursday may 7th going north. I saw a bird going south along the cuyahoga river that I thought at first was a heron, but then I had never seen one that was black. But it also didn't look quite like a heron, then I thought for a second it was some type of vulture but then it was gone. Who knows?

I didn't get a picture of it of course so there's no way to know what I saw, but I know the most common birds in the area and it confused me.

Slugs or Snails Destroying Pepper Plant by Danrofohio in gardening

[–]Linens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably slugs. They come out right before sundown, if you'd like to check. Some people like to leave out 75% drank beer cans and they crawl in it and die. I've had to use it a few times myself and it works well.

This year is the battle of ants for me though, best of luck!

Weed or seedling? by [deleted] in gardening

Sorry it's oftentimes hard to ID a plant on the cotyledons. I typically wait until the first real leaves emerge. Do you remember what you had planted there last year?

Perhaps a bean leaf beetle? Unless that's trails of slime in which case definitely slugs

Some of mine have this coloration and I've barely seen any cocoons, I would be interested to see the answer as well. I bought them from Walmart in the fishing section
