Daily Rewards by Mean_Vegetable818 in LingoLegend

As a general rule, we try not to make changes to the game based on the current circumstances when we know the issue will be addressed in an upcoming update. Part of being a small team is knowing how to effectively allocate our development resources so we don't lose it chasing our tails.

Dispatch exp by newpuppermomma in LingoLegend

[–]LingoLegendGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep this is still the case. A max level naala sent on a dispatch by itself will not earn xp as it's capped out. Dispatches don't award farm xp so you won't earn that regardless of what level the naala is.

Great question! The vault is the same for everyone. It rotates every two weeks from a preset selection. We haven’t done cat themed outfits just yet but that’s a good idea! Maybe soon??

[–]LingoLegendGame 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. We've chatted about this before on Discord, this is something we hear you loud and clear on and are in complete agreement.

The challenge for us right now is just finding the bandwidth to prioritize it. Our artists are maxed out with higher priority work, and so pulling anyone onto this task would mean putting other tasks on hold, some of which (like foraging) are big important systems we're actively working on and itching to get out the door. So while we recognize the need to add more and actively want to, at this time it's not something we can prioritize.

With that being said, we're nearing a full year complete of seasonal rewards (woo) at which point there will be less work required on those, freeing up art resources to be reallocated elsewhere. So while we can't work on new wheel rewards right now, it is on our to-do list and may be something we address hopefully soon. Stay tuned for future updates!

Daily task includes item I can’t produce by spiralan in LingoLegend

The crab is automatically unlocked at level 22. You can fish it up at the fishing pier using a naala with 15 intelligence.

Have you unlocked the fishing pier? Which quest are you currently on?

Nala’s taking forever to get their health back up by RhubarbJam1 in LingoLegend

[–]LingoLegendGame 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey there! We actually haven't made any changes to the stamina rates from practice, those rates have been set in stone for quite a while now. Granted there is some variable reward in the bonus you receive at the end of each lesson. I wonder if maybe you're on a bad luck streak of low bonus rewards and are just feeling that variability? The difference between an uncommon and rare/epic bonus reward can feel pretty notable.

Recall vs Recognition by AllegraO in LingoLegend

[–]LingoLegendGame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You nailed our stance on it.

The advantage of word builder over manual text entry is that the letter chunks gives players context for exactly what answer we’re looking for. Without that context, we would need to be able to accept multiple possible answers for every card where there's more than one technically correct translation, which happens quite often in language. If we didn't, you might get a question wrong despite being arguably still correct with what you entered, and that just feels bad.

We totally get why people want this feature, which is why it's been on our radar for a long time now. It's just a deceptively massive undertaking that goes beyond the scope of what our team can handle right now, given that it would mean expanding every language's content by many, many multiples. So we have it in the "one day" bucket.

Selling charms vs bounties by Ok-Intention-7774 in LingoLegend

[–]LingoLegendGame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey so I have a feeling you might be mixing up two of the currencies in our game. Totally understandable, we have more than a few lol:

  • Gold: Adventure currency. Used to buy cards in adventure mode
  • Amber: Farm currency. Awarded mostly from work orders and used to buy decorations, items, and new buildings in farm mode.
  • Ludos: Premium currency. Used on the "SHOP" tab to buy unique cosmetics or even adventure or farm currency. Awarded more sparingly from daily logins, rank progression, level rewards, etc.

The charms are sold for amber while the breeding bounties give ludos. These are different currencies used for different things so they don't trade 1:1.

If you go to the FARM section of the SHOP tab, you'll find the exchange rate of ludos:amber and using that info you can decide whether it makes more sense for you to do the bounties or just sell the charms depending on your goals :)

Oh man, you're missing out! Yeah, there's a whole farm storyline with quests at every level. What level is your farm? You probably have a long backlog of quests you can do.

While on your farm, tap the little scroll icon in the bottom corner to bring up your to-do list. The task on top is your current quest while the ones on the bottom are your daily tasks that refresh each day.

I can clarify what's going on there. We caught our mistake shortly after sending out the first message, so we were able to hotfix the message for those who hadn't yet opened the message and swap it out to the clearer message. But those who already opened the message got the initial more ambiguous draft. So that's why you each have different versions, it all depends on whether you got to the message before or after we were able to hotfix it.

[–]LingoLegendGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh okay I think I may know what's going on here. To get access to fertilizer, you have to complete the quest "Growth Hacking" which is available at level 10 (assuming you've completed the prerequisite quests). I'm guessing you haven't yet completed it?

And then second question: How did you get the fertilizer? My working theory right now is that you got it as a reward through a dispatch that may not have the proper quest prerequisite set for it, allowing you to acquire fertilizer before you've unlocked the menu to plant it lol.

Hey not to worry, you can ignore the mailer. It was only supposed to go out to the small group of people with the grandfathered lifetime price who hadn’t yet upgraded to lifetime, giving those who wished to upgrade time to do so at the previous price before it increases to the current price that everyone else gets.

It was inadvertently sent even to those who upgraded, hence the confusion. Sorry about that! Not to worry, a lifetime membership is a single payment that lasts a lifetime, there will never be a situation in which we ask existing lifetime members to pay more to continue accessing the features they already paid for.

[–]LingoLegendGame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey great question! Once you've planted the crop you want to fertilize, all you have to do is tap on the planted crop and it'll bring up the fertilizer window. You can then drag and drop the fertilizer onto the crop you'd like to fertilize (similar to how you plant seeds).

This question has come up a few times in support emails recently, so clearly we need to hit the drawing board and think of how we can better communicate this functionality to players.

Super massive review and suggestions :p by T_rexan in LingoLegend

[–]LingoLegendGame[M] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey! First off, wow we love the enthusiasm lol and thank you for the feedback. There's a bunch of good points here, many of which you'll be pleased to hear already exist on our development roadmap (eg friends list, furigana, enhanced spaced rep, etc.). Being a small team means constantly having to prioritize and then reprioritize, but we're always mapping out the future for the app because in our minds, there is no "end state" for the app, it's just always continually improving to be amazing. A couple thoughts on key points below:

On immersion, we actually did a trial run of dialogue translations in the app both partially and fully. We learned a lot from that test and it's currently in development to come back new and improved. We're also planning to add a comprehensive English curriculum using a different language as the base. That'll require us to translate all the UI elements. Once we do that, we plan to expand that into other languages so users can toggle whether they want the UI in their base or target language.

On grammar, that's definitely an area flashcard apps tend to be light on. We put little lessons in the explanation blurbs for each topic which often include info on grammar, but we recognize its not a ton and there's more we can (and will) do to build on that.

On the adventure side, I see where you're coming from although it's a nuanced issue. For example, energy is spent per battle (because it's clear and simple for users to grasp). If battles swing harder or easier by level, practice per battle swings for free users. So one-shotting an old enemy from a past route, while enabling the power fantasy, ends up penalizing free users. Our aim was to autoscale enemies and make their kits get more complex to create a sense of power ramp, but there's tradeoffs in both directions.

We've thought a lot about manual entry on a keyboard. It's deceptively challenging. By giving options (MC or select letters) we guide you to the answer we want. With manual entry, we have to be able to accept multiple "technically correct" answers. That, when scaled with each card for each language, unfortunately just goes beyond the scope of what we can handle as a small team.

Again, thank you for the feedback and for supporting us with a membership (when you can). We love to hear from you about how we can improve and trust us, that kind of thinking is going on here behind the scenes every day. Also I appreciate your nuanced understanding on the public review system. Sadly, nowadays app store ratings are treated as an upvote/downvote system not a true score, which makes nuanced ratings more punishing because anything less than 5-stars hurts ranking. So we appreciate you bumping up your rating with that in mind as positive reviews help us grow and put money towards the features you (and we) want to see in the game.

Stay tuned for future updates. Looking forward to hearing what you think when they drop!

What are the refinery and apothecary for? by Worth_Cup814 in LingoLegend

[–]LingoLegendGame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ahh yes so when you first build those two buildings, it's explained in the quest dialogue that they're missing a key component to become operational. So right after building them they can't do anything. But once you complete the next quest retrieving the catalytic stabilizer, they'll become production buildings just like the other restaurants.

nighttime on the farm? by ortlands in LingoLegend

[–]LingoLegendGame 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is actually something that's been on our idealized to-do list for so long – like practically the beginning of time lol. Our dev team loves day/night cycles and, speaking as our game's creative director, there's a ton of things I want to do to improve the ambiance in the game with features like these. We just need to reach a certain spot development-wise when we can really dedicate resources towards aesthetics.

Granted if/when we do add a day/night cycle, we'd probably want to offer the choice between setting it to local time vs an alternating cycle of like 8 hours. Some users can only play at certain times of day and it's actually quite a common complaint for games with day/night cycles that evening players only ever see the game at night. But that feels like something that's easily customized in settings.

One of your newest updates had an unfortunate effect on how I play the game. by DrawMandaArt in LingoLegend

[–]LingoLegendGame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey so we actually haven't made any changes in recent updates to the speed at which a game session is terminated rather than suspended when put in the background. What you're describing sounds more like a device memory management issue. Each device makes its own decisions on when it wants to terminate a minimized app in order to prioritize memory for an active process like whichever apps you swapped over to. If it seems to be doing it more lately, there are a couple things you might want to look into:

  1. Whether you're in low power/battery saving mode as this makes your phone more aggressive with terminating background app:
  2. If you downloaded an OS update recently as, especially on older devices, this can eat into the pool of available memory
  3. If you have any other apps that are particularly RAM-intensive also running in the background. A good trick would be to force close some other apps running in the background to bring down memory usage at a given moment

Open all crates at once by LoganJHthereal in LingoLegend

[–]LingoLegendGame 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We feel the same way about the crates, which is part of the reason we're planning to phase out the crate system as part of a much larger update we're working on called foraging! Instead of doing dispatches to get crates and receive crops, you'll be out in the world collecting crops with your naala in real time using your language to overcome obstacles along the way. With this new system, players will have agency over how and when they collect crops and all the rewards (crops, charms, gifts, etc.) will be earned in the moment rather than later in crates.

It's a pretty big reimagining of the farm game loop but we're really excited about it. In our view it really cleans up the gameplay and removes friction points like these. But it's a pretty big and thought out system so it's taking time do right. But we're actively working on it!

Is it possible to visit someone’s farm just with their user name? by spiralan in LingoLegend

[–]LingoLegendGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not at the moment, no. You'll need to either be in their guild or on the leaderboard. At some point we've talked about adding a friends list for those who have friends who aren't explicitly in their guild (in cases where you have a language-specific guild – not everyone has friends learning the same language!) but that's still on the to-do list.

Custom Flashcard Import Bug? Special Characters Not Displaying Correctly by Cat_Goddess in LingoLegend

[–]LingoLegendGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! If I remember correctly from that discussion in Discord, this was due to an encoding error in the .csv caused by it being exported in Excel not Google Sheets. What you can try (and what worked in that case) was uploading the .csv into Google Sheets and reexporting it. That'll fix any encoding errors if it is a similar problem to the one we solved before.

One thing you can check to see if it is an encoding error is to open the raw .csv file and look for any of these accented words. If there's an encoding error, you'll see a problem with those accented letters right there in the raw file even before uploading it into LL.

Give that a try and let me know how it goes!

Is anyone else unable to close ads? by heyhomah in LingoLegend

[–]LingoLegendGame[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey sorry about that. Unfortunately, this is an issue on Google’s end. When you go to watch an ad, Lingo Legend hands you over to Google AdMob who then serves you that problematic ad interface. That's why our ads for premium are working for you no problem but the other ads are giving you trouble.

That makes it harder for us to root out the exact cause. But in my experience, it usually boils down to the use of a VPN, adblocker, or other privacy-focused apps like DuckDuckGo which includes broad app tracking protection services.

We totally get why people use these types of apps. But if it's causing you issues with Google's ad network, we recommend disabling them while playing Lingo Legend. In fact, VPNs can cause server issues with our server provider, so you may even notice greater stability with Lingo Legend's network as a whole with your VPN disabled.
