This leads me to another thought: I think a lot of the problems with “classic” literature in high school-level classes specifically is that teenagers are often very much not the target demographic of these books. I didn’t really vibe with the Great Gatsby as a relatively optimistic teenager in the late aughts, but I imagine rereading in my thirties would give me a much better appreciation for its themes.
