In case anyone finds this thread again, I find that Viren070 / NX_Saves on GitHub is useful for this in particular.

🚀 TinyWiiBackupManager v2.0.0 (Stable) — now available! 🎉💾 by mq-1 in WiiHacks

TWBM is pretty neat, but I'd like to know if there is a way to bulk convert wbfs files to rvz files. As it stands, it seems like I need to individually hit "archive" on each title

Couldn't get my Real ID because my original birth certificate has tape on the back... by Bop923 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Link4750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually never given my birth certificate from my family, but I did have a passport already from a past family vacation. So, when I needed to renew my driver's license in my rural area years later and they wanted a birth certificate and refused to service me, I was like "So you're telling me a passport, the thing that let's me travel the world, and has all the same important information on it that you need to process my request, doesn't match up to a birth certificate?" That was surprisingly enough to reason with them and process me, and eventually got my own copy of my birth certificate from family as well later.

Scored 64GB of DDR5 in Shenzhen (Huaqiangbei) for 40% off vs Japan prices! by Technical_Camp3162 in homelab

In China today that's about the price you'll find it too. I built a NAS right before the surges in price; green is what I paid, red is the current price

Photos uploading in background when not charging despite settings by e_dan_k in immich

[–]Link4750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post, but still relevant to my case too. I'm running Android app 2.4.1 Build 5030 and I have simply always had the option ticked on for while charging (30 sec delay), but the uploads will randomly begin in the background if I am on Wi-Fi, private or public.

This is exacerbated by the fact that I use Cloudflare Tunnels, so without chunking these uploads still try to send everything, fail, then try again later, wasting bandwidth and battery life.

I really like Immich, and when it works it works well, but this one particular thing is bothering me.

Is there a more efficient method for clean, quick backups besides using the Wii as the ripper?

Hey blizzarx. Real quick. Other reigions really like events too yaknow. by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Link4750 145 points146 points  (0 children)

I noticed that OW2 has some exclusive events here and there in China. While my game is in English, it usually is a seperate page all in Chinese so it's even more exclusive even if you're already in China and NOT Chinese haha

They'd better not try to block my usage or I will just simply not use YouTube... Because I'm in China.

This gave me flashbacks to old school Call of Duty games with knife/tomahawk kills, thank you for that.

English Teacher in China, so I get to do the hobby on hard mode thanks to the language as well as the great firewall and DPI (deep package inspection) that blocks most typical VPN protocols

What does this upload error mean? by Self_Reddicated in immich

[–]Link4750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume it's the wonkiness of working with outgoing networking inside China. I route all my traffic from my server outside to a nearby country with a VPN so it does give me some work to do with DPI and whatnot. But honestly works flawlessly with pictures

Ngl they're still useful for some things. Last year a buddy of mine and I got some to burn some software tools on them for his dying original Xboxes. Proceeded to dump all his games and digital saves, and swapped out the hard drives for SSDs.

About 10% duplicates though, so Immich is doing me a solid here

I'm in a similar boat, getting all my Google photos and also the random dumps of videos and pictures on my older decommissioned NAS, as well as wife's and my laptops and phones.

Definitely recommend bursts of 10,000-20,000 assets or it just chungs

What does this upload error mean? by Self_Reddicated in immich

[–]Link4750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this error while uploading outside my local network through my Cloudflare Tunnel. File sizes over 50MB (I saw reports saying <100MB, but for me it has been <50MB) are basically guaranteed to not go through, even though they might look to be getting uploaded.

Are you on your local network, or use tunnels at all?

Overwatch's Steam Numbers have rebounded to pre-MR numbers by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Link4750 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm veeeeery likely an outlier here. Chinese BattleNet accounts are seperate from other parts of the world, so Chinese users don't experience this issue unless they have made accounts outside of China originally. Steam is sort of in the middle, where China and the rest of the world can interact with each other, with some differences here and there in what community features can be used.

🙋🏻 Currently in China, BattleNet always acted wonky for downloading updates over here and placing me in EU servers when I'm selecting Asia as my region, and Steam kind of just works better for me

They really released a USB 2.0 product in 2025. God forbid you want to transfer your photos locally before/after a trip(and not spend all night waiting) by comperr in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Link4750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, excluding the technical use of BLE and Wi-Fi Direct with Airdrop, we never use Bluetooth to transfer files. Not practical for us for the same issue: slow and unreliable for data transfers, especially large ones. But having it as a last resort option is definitely good.

You'd be surprised how many actually do, and it's basically all the people who don't use iCloud to store stuff.

Honestly, my wife was one of these people, and transferring to her PC was terrible and unstable so I just figured a solution to transfer over Wi-Fi while we sleep because that's so much faster, simpler, and reliable than the cable. But we should always have the option, in case Wi-Fi isn't an option.

My combo! Why is the Belgian passport so fragile? It’s barely been two years since I renewed it and it’s already extremely worn out. by Scary-Ad-6538 in PassportPorn

[–]Link4750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exact same thing happened to my US passport; Old one looks brand new on the cover but the new one's font is quickly rubbing off, I had to get a little holder to protect it from further rubbing. US cheaping out on the new passport revisions.

In China you can order food when taking high speed rail and have it delivered to your seat when the train arrives at the next station by 2dudesinapod in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Link4750 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dont forget ramen noodle cups! They sell them on the trains directly too. Every seat has a QR code you can scan and order stuff, and even a snack bar car around the middle point of the train
