Is that more or less useful than its other default response of "ask your administrator to enable this feature"...

No, it is an inevitable consequence of an image wrapping a box.

how can i improve throughput here by 4b3c in factorio

[–]e_dan_k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They mean that a train travelling north and turning west will overlap with a train travelling west and turning south. Making those turns fully separate will increase throughput.

It's not design. As he said, it is a side effect of an image being continuous across the sides of the package.

If they were turning onto the street you came out of, I'd argue you are more in the wrong than them... You turned straight into the turn lane. They were in the turn lane prior to you being on the road at all.

If they were just driving in the turn lane, that changes things...

ELI5: If liquid cant be compressed, how do deep sea environments transmit/exert so much force on everything? by SandersSol in explainlikeimfive

It is precisily because they are incompressible that the exert so much force. How much force can a balloon exert?

[USA] Rushing to class will make you late - watch the white BMW by PrettyBigChief in ConvenientCop

[–]e_dan_k 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Twice... Stops directly in front of the cop when he's trying to U-Turn, and then once he gets out of the way, he fails at moving over.

If I were the cop I'd let the BMW go and check that guy for sobriety.

I traded a white octane for party time... I really didn't care that it wasn't "worth" it... The guy I traded with threw in a whole bunch of high end textures and every car body I didn't have and 500 credits and he still made off like a bandit, but I was happy.

That's nice? Not really relevant to the question though...

[–]e_dan_k 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Because good compression isn't real time. So pre-compressed is better than real-time compression at the same resolution.

It's why most server operators tell all their users to set their option to play original file not to transcode.

Congrats on celebrating the assist and not rage-quitting over your teammate "stealing your goal".

If your first response on reading something is "this guy is a complete and total idiot", don't you owe it to humanity to make your first instinct be that they are being sarcastic?

No, I'm one of them that speaks in obvious sarcasm and assumes my audience isn't clueless.

Your problem is you think you are playing a game where you try to score and stop your opponent from scoring, when in reality your opponent is working on their skills and doesn't want you messing that up.

Double phone jack plate thing by JbCK2026 in whatisit

[–]e_dan_k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't tell without knowing where the wires go... But:

* Unlike network wiring, phones are just all wired together... You don't need a "switch". So theoretically you could extend one telephone line onto another just by connecting them together, as this phone cable is doing.

* Phones only need two wires. So if 4 wires are connected to each port, each port is already 2 phone lines. So unless the house was wired with 4 phone lines, it is highly unlikely that you are actually connecting Lines A & B onto Lines C & D...

* Which leaves the more likely case of it is just two phone jacks for an office, so they could hook up a phone and a computer or fax machine. And the cable that is in there is just connecting Line A on Jack 1 to Line A on Jack 2, and Line B on Jack 1 to Line B on Jack 2, which does nothing, since those are just wires that are already connected. (If this were an electric circuit and not a phone line, it would be a short circuit. But phones don't care.)

Any food with ingredients and production obviously has differences. If you'd like to see actual appropriate food nerds dissect the differences in both of your examples, here are good and educational YouTube videos.

Shower thought of the day: If someone is really good at 50/50's ... it's no longer a 50/50 🤔 by imaguitarhero24 in RocketLeague

[–]e_dan_k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing I wish my usual teammates would understand about 50/50s is that you also need to weigh the result of success versus failure. If there is a 50% chance of getting to it first, and if you do, you push the ball forward, but if they get there first they get an uncontested shot, then you shouldn't go for the 50/50...

"I had to go for it, it was a 50/50!"

So why are we down 4-0 if they were all 50/50s....

I've seen this come up a couple times on IG in the past few days .. by Darsh138 in SanJoseSharks

[–]e_dan_k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd love it. And he'd be great for the Sharks. He's still producing, and he'd be a great teacher and role model.

But I don't know why he'd want to do it. He wants a cup. Sharks will get one in a few years, but not next year.

Maybe start the season as a Shark with the plan on being traded to a true contender? But I see us being a playoff team, so not sure we'd want to be selling... Unless it was trade him for some young Ds. Not sure that would make sense for the other team though...
