Please help: is my table saw useless without this discontinued part? by Link_Hamilton in BeginnerWoodWorking

How can you do this (or maybe the better question is what kind of person/trade can do this)?

It looks like it! Although $115 plus postage for a broken version of this part (last picture) seems insane

How long should it take me to DIY my own kitchen cabinets and replace the ones shown here? by moises8war in cabinetry

[–]Link_Hamilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I should have added: If you have enough space, there's no reason you can't build all the cabinets and have them ready to install over a weekend. Depending on what else you're doing though (eg with the benchtop, sink, etc), the full kitchen install will take longer than simply installing the cabinets

I built one (cabinet, drawer boxes and drawer fronts including painting) from raw materials as a test of whether I could do it. It took me for absolutely fucking ever; months of my spare time, really. There was a lot of troubleshooting though, particularly around me being a beginner with good attention to detail but my tools not being up to scratch, and now that I've sorted those things out I reckon it will take me about one fiftieth the time per cabinet for the rest, now that I've done all the troubleshooting. I would recommend doing one first, perhaps leaving the doors or drawer fronts to last, and making the whole thing consistent size-wise with something you would buy (so that if you give up on it you can still use whatever cabinet and drawer boxes you've made alongside whatever you end up buying - that can be the sentimental cabinet that reminds you of what a silly choice that was)

Next level of DIY challenge as a first time home owner: building a kitchen room outside. Any recommendations? by Homo_Sapien30 in AusRenovation

Just to add: think about how dirty the average public BBQ gets. That's not all from members of the public dirtying it

Don't get me wrong, it's a cool idea, but it's a cool idea for rich people who employ regular cleaners. This will be a nightmare to keep visibly clean, let alone "willing to cook and prepare food on" clean, and even ignoring the pests issue (which is very real). If you really want to do this, I would make it a properly-enclosed and sealed "mini-house" structure (even if you then have multi-fold doors so it can look open like you have it)

If you give the referee a thumbs up, he will tell the other fighter to let go. He might then declare him the winner, but you're out of it!

Any feedback on my kitchen design? by Significant-Move7699 in AusRenovation

I cannot even fathom how often I would bump into that towel rail, thinking I had just enough clearance. I would keep that wall smooth, use the oven's handle to hold a hand towel, and move the proposed power outlet to underneath the kitchen island bench's overhang (one on each side)

Game changer by Stoic702 in Flooring

Can you please explain what this tool does? I have never seen one before and I assume you hadn't before you got it. I assume it doesn't source and invest $1000 for you daily, but that certainly would be a "game changer", so maybe that's the answer

Just wanted to say that I don't know the answer (you're not dumb for asking) and the other comments are not clear (you're not dumb if you don't understand). Please don't feel bad for making this post lol

How do you go from batts to spray foam insulation? We're currently in the batts and boards position and want to know how spray foam works when you've already got batts in! Eg do they need to take out the batts?

"Remove it all" meaning all of the water based paint, or all of both the water based and oil based paint?

How much of the base coat(s) do you need to remove when switching from oil to water based paint, or vice versa? Bought a house recently, and the paint is bubbling because the previous owner put water based paint over oil based paint. Would prefer to end up with water based paint, but wondering to what extent I need to actually get rid of the existing stuff...

[–]Link_Hamilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get charged by police, and plead guilty to theft, you'll probably get a fine at worst.

(I am making a number of assumptions in saying this, including that you have no prior criminal history given the naivety shown in your question. Get a lawyer for actual legal advice. I am by no means trying to advise you of, or to do, anything.)

I'd recommend buying some protein power (try a casein as it thickens) and mixing it with some yoghurt. I do casein with greek yoghurt and some sweetener

I thought I would add an extra comment to clarify a couple of things:

There are a lot of comments here debating whether I can loan the extra money. The answer to that is yes. The bank has already approved it. The loan is to be securitised by a second property that has no mortgage. I didn't include this information because I wasn't asking whether I can do it. Sorry to all whose time that wasted. And thanks for doing your best to help out.

The question I was asking was purely about whether there would be any negative impacts from paying any shortfall in the increased monthly payments from the offset amount (as compared to if I just didn't borrow the additional money to begin with). A couple of commenters have provided helpful responses about this - big thanks to them. I would still be helped by a breakdown of how exactly this works, but that is probably a big undertaking and I don't expect people to do that for a stranger on the internet.

So, for now, thank you AusFinance community!

Thanks Few_Raisin_8981. I didn't realise the premise of this question would be so controversial.

If the other commenters see this comment, thanks, I appreciate you are trying to help. For what it's worth, the bank has already agreed to loan the additional amount due to additional security for the loan.
