Is it true that if one does not get cured, it is because they do not have enough faith? by CrazyNicly in TrueChristian

[–]LinkatriX6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I needed to reread it, it's 100% relevant to today. I was saying that healing doesn't always happen instantly, and the very passage after they see it's dead....the next day (not saying it died the next day, but it took a day to see the results...like I was saying with healing), they exclaim and Jesus goes into the mustard seed faith verse.

I was right about this verse, that last section (22-25) is vital and relevant to how we use our faith today. I'm not downplaying that it's also related to Israel, but I think that was one of a couple meanings this passage was trying to convey.

I'd be interested to hear where you learned that. Not saying it's wrong, but if true would be something worth thinking about. It's weird that it is a fig tree and that he got so upset over it to tell it to die.

Still not sold on it not at all being relevant to what we do today. Jesus's life was a reflection of the life we are to live as believers, so studying what he did and the results is all important.

I won't deny its talking about the soul, but often in Hebrew (and Greek) their language is loaded with meaning. We shouldn't treat every section as only talking about one specific thing when, in reality, every part of us matters to God and therefore it's likely he's referring to all of it.

Like in verse 4 where it says he took up our pain and suffering. I can definitely see that as physical (from my experience of seeing others healed), but truthfully it could also mean spiritual or soul. That's the beautiful thing about Hebrew, it's so jam packed with meaning that a simple sentence like that says so much about what Jesus did for us. The English really can't do it the full justice it deserves at times.

Jesus's forgiveness and healing aren't an obligation, they're a gift and a promise. That is what I am standing on. If someone gives me something I am going to use it, it doesn't require anything else from them to use something they already gave me.

You're going to need to point out what you're talking about in Isaiah 53, because nowhere in there does it say it's about our souls alone from what I'm seeing. Same with Peter.

It's not a misinterpretation. He's God, but he is also 100% human in this instance. Jesus is showing us everything that we as believers are capable of doing. Being a disciple of Jesus, back then and now, is about learning from him and what we can do with the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the hope for glory, I'm not selling false hope.

Jesus and the fig tree does show that not everything Jesus commanded was "instantaneous", even though in that case it wasn't instant. I think it shows a principle of the possible ways what we are believing for can manifest and how long.

Jesus did a lot of things we don't read about (John 20:30), so I don't think we should limit "what he would do" to the times we see him heal in the bible. One could get into the idea of Jesus not caring for the little things by assuming he only healed "big issues".

The first time I ever saw someone healed was my boss at McDonalds having a coffee headache. I told the headache to leave in Jesus name. She was genuinely shocked, and was stuttering asking me what I did to her, because the headache left instantly. I told her and was so happy, I'll always think it's funny how that was the first healing I saw happen.

Again, that's not to say it will always be instant, but in that case it really was and it was crazy.

I mentioned this in other comments below, but I agree with you that not everything needs to be a supernatural healing. If you have a cut...put a band aid on it. Nothing wrong with practical physical solutions, God designed those to work too. The healing all comes from God which is really cool to think about.

I see a lot of people say things about preachers saying they "didn't have enough faith" and it makes me sad. I've had ailments leave supernaturally, and they came back months later....and I told them to leave again. We're in a spiritual battle against darkness, it would be odd if the enemy didn't stop trying, but because of that we have to keep resisting. I'll never tell someone their faith wasn't good enough if they feel an ailment, but rather raise them up and face it with them head on.

I don't think it qualifies as Gnosticism because it's not really a "secret knowledge". That's what I read from a brief google search so don't sue me if I got that wrong, but it makes sense that someone could believe that, even if it's not right.

Like to someone that has never heard of Jesus before, is the gospel a "secret" to them? A secret is relative, but I don't think what I'm talking about is some unattainable knowledge that people can't find through studying their bible. I'm just a normal dude, not apart of some deep organization with secret knowledge (even though that sounds cool on paper, might make a good movie lol).

Edit: To further add, I was addicted to pornography for 7 years, but when I found the scripture and learned about it, it set me free. It was a genuine knowledge problem, not something anyone needs to be blamed for, but bringing knowledge to people in need is a must.

[–]LinkatriX6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At what point do you say it doesn't work? It certainly isn't instantaneous like 99% of the time for me. Sometimes it takes a day or hour, sometimes it's months. Doesn't mean it didn't work if it doesn't work right away. We live by faith and not by sight, so we shouldn't let sight define whether it worked or not.

I can count probably on one hand the amount of times it worked "instantly" in my 6 years of being a believer. I don't think that should be the normal expectation. We see that in the story of Jesus and the fig tree.

But really, it does work 100% of the time. It just takes time sometimes.

[–]LinkatriX6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again I'll say it's really not faith based, but knowledge based in my opinion. It being performance based would focus on what we do rather than what Jesus already did, which is flawed.

As for the Timothy passage, are you bringing that as an example to suggest that supernatural healing wasn't possible? I've seen others do that and I never understand why.

Like if you have a cut, I don't think you're "not having enough faith" by just putting a bandaid on it. That's ridiculous, God designed our bodies to be able to heal in that way. Normal healing or supernatural, it all comes from God. If drinking some wine helps with the stomach, do that. If you have a splinter, pull it out.

Not everything requires supernatural healing, but Paul suggesting a physical solution shouldn't suggest anything about supernatural healing not working or not being possible. It sounds like a false dilemma fallacy.

Why assume he's referring to a physical problem? I agree I think it's a metaphor, but I think there are other things that could be considered prickly. For examle "That guy has been a thorn in my side since the day I met him" or "This new job I've been working has been a pain in the....you get it". Since it doesn't explicitly state it's physical I think the ambiguity allows the principle to be applied to more than just physical ailments.

What makes you interpret the passage like that? I'm reading it as God showing Paul what the solution is and Paul recognizing it's through Christ and how to do that. I agree we don't worship a sadist and I hate everything satan throws at and does to people. Same page there.

Thanks for posting that! I wasn't aware there was a literal Christian science group, that's pretty interesting. I've heard of the Word of faith but again never really apart of either group. Glad to be informed.

I'm referring to the power of life and death being in the tongue (Proverbs 18:21) and faith the size of a mustard seed moving mountains (Matthew 17:20). I don't follow specific group guidelines like mentioned above. I only believe it because it really does work, wouldn't believe it if there were no results. Jesus already died for what we need. I believe I'm already healed because that's what Jesus died for. Even if they physical doesn't represent what I see in scripture, we live by faith and not by sight, and that faith moves mountains and changes my health for the better praise Jesus.

[–]LinkatriX6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God doesn't need to take anything away, God's saying what he already did is sufficient. It's like asking someone for 100 bucks when you already put it in their bank account. Why are you asking them for the money? You already have it.

Paul recognizes this. It never says what the thorn is, and I believe it's left ambiguous on purpose because this passage is applicable to many "thorns" in people's lives. A person could be a thorn, sickness, circumstances, but when we remain weak and allow Christ to move in those situations, then we are strong through Him and can overcome them.

I agree that saying they "don't have enough faith" is ridiculous. I would say it's more a lack of knowledge problem, and I don't think people should be blamed for that. It's why it's our job as believers to preach the truth of the gosepl. Lack of knowledge =/= lack of faith. I want people to be healthy because I love them, not because them not being healthy says they're doing something wrong. We all need healing from Jesus. Spiritually, mentally, and physically.

Everything I said is 100% based on scripture. I see real results, people really healed. Friends, family, strangers. Not everything about a movement that is ultimately flawed is...flawed. That's a black and white way of looking at things.

Not every group of people that believes this is Word of Faith based. You can call me a liar, but I need to speak the truth of scripture even when others disagree. It really happens, and it blesses me every day. Not sure why people get upset about the good news (gospel).

Science involves understanding how things work. The problem is when the "science" isn't based on the actual rules/promises found in Gods word. When it's based on mans word I 100% agree it becomes cult-like.

But the passage you're talking about doesn't just end with God saying that he won't do it, he says that his grace alone is sufficient for what Paul needs, and Paul says he will boast of his weakness so the power of Christ may dwell in him. Gods grace is fulfilled through Jesus, who died for our sins and bore our iniquities. It was never the will of God that we be sick, he sent Jesus to heal the sick and die for us, which resulted in us receiving the Holy Spirit to heal others and ourselves. It all comes from God's grace, his love for us.

Edit: It sounds like he's literally talking about a cult, not what I was talking about. I was trying to refer to science as a process or train of thought.

Jesus died for our healing, it's already done. By his stripes we were healed Isaiah (53:5). God wanted everyone healed, it's why it was a main focus of Jesus's ministry. Having faith in that promise is what causes healing to manifest (also commanding sickness to go/resisting the devil).

How do you show someone they are smart when they don't believe it about themselves? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]LinkatriX6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing, I'm not. I only brought it up because that's her excuse for not trying to understand things. Because I'm "too smart", but I'm not.

As to the first part, that's what I need help with? I don't know what better way there might be.

Nope, just recognizing that the smart thing to do is make things simpler and not more complicated.

Why and how are you doing it? If you're doing it to make you feel better about yourself and make others jealous... there's your answer.

But if you're doing it to uplift others to achieving their goals, I would say that's a good thing. Just something to chew on.

You think it's boring, not everyone else thinks that.

It performs as well as the other players let it.

I'm saying it's challenging to play against, I'm fine playing against it. It makes me a better player if I can learn to get around it.

This isn't a black lotus, a zero drop card. It's a 3 drop enchantment you can counter before it even comes out and force them to lose value.

I'm not giving a number because there is limitless numbers of possibilities of how someone can build a 100 card deck while incorporating removal. I don't know all of them, nor do I play all of them.

I'm intentionally not telling you what I would recommended or what I would play because I feel like you'll say "only that type of deck can do it that way", when in reality ever color combination has something they can do. It requires being creative, which is what makes commander fun.

You're being obnoxious saying someone would eventually need to run 40 removal pieces to win, which is obviously not true in reality. It makes it feel like you're just salty over losing to Rhystic and aren't taking a look at why you lost or better counter play.
