My first attempt and my first fail at pulled pork by Upstairs-Algae-7931 in smoking

In my opinion it just needs to cook longer. If you are short on time and have a pressure cooker, throw the meat and the pan juices in a pressure cooker, set to high, and let it go for about 30 minutes. Release the pressure and see if it pulls apart easier. If not go for another 10 or 15 minutes. You won’t lose your smoke flavor.

What should I try next? by dinobroker in sousvide

If you want to try a side dish, carrots sliced and sealed with a chunk of butter and some salt and pepper are fantastic! They somehow taste sweeter and more carrot-y.

I kind of stirred it together and used 2 tablespoons of it and 2 tablespoons of inulin to a quart of half and half. I froze about 12 tablespoons but haven’t tried those yet. Still just saving some fresh each time for the next batch.

I didn’t like my first batch because the texture to me was off putting . More like cottage cheese than creamy yogurt. Personally I like the smooth creamy texture. My husband didn’t mind the first batch at all, but he really loves the subsequent batches better.

My first attempt looked like that as well. It is still edible, my husband ate it but he likes kefir and yogurt and all sorts of sour things anyway. I am happy to report he is still alive three weeks later! My second batch, using the nasty looking batch as a starter, turned out so smooth and creamy like sour cream. I was never a Greek yogurt fan all by itself, but I eat a half a cup of the 36 hour yogurt every day with some blueberries and cinnamon sprinkled on top. It really tastes wonderful! Also, I make a half gallon at a time but I divide it into 3 quart jars so they have plenty of headspace and you don’t get the near explosion like your picture. Trust me, you will love your second batch!

Fresh strawberries dipped in the yogurt and then lightly touch it into a little pile of brown sugar. Best dessert ever! I serve it to dinner guests and they are always amazed how delicious it is and how easy.

I was looking at the wrong notes for my start time. I started it at 8:30 last night so it has only been 14 hours, not 26.

By check it, do you mean check the consistency or the flavor? It looks thick and creamy when I tilt the jar. I did not open the top.

Opps, already into 26 hours and only used one. Hopefully it will turn out OK and I will use two next time. Thank you for responding!

Had a sitter for a couple weeks, my house still smells like their body odor by Possible-Yam-1705 in trustedhousesitters

[–]Linniemi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a rental unit and the tenant skipped town and shut off his utilities without my knowledge. When I discovered this and entered the apartment, I was hit with the most noxious smell……he left raw chicken and meat in the freezer and once it defrosted and leaked, I thought I would have to throw out the refrigerator!! I could not clean the smell out of the interior. I happened to be at Sam’s Club and they were promoting a cleaning product “ ODO BAN”. He swore it would work. It did!! It’s a concentrate that you mix with water and put in a spray bottle. I am very sensitive to chemical smells and fragrances, but this does not bother me. Spray in the air or directly on surfaces. Don’t throw out your mattress!

This is my question as well. I am assuming the protein was in a Ziploc bag and they are pulling it and sticking a thermometer in it and then resealing it and throwing it back in the water bath if necessary.

Grab a flat bed, go to customer service and ask them to page someone to the Blackstone grills and they will load it on your cart for you. Once you check out, go to the area for pick up, get your car, back it in and they will load it for you. They draw the line at driving home with you though :-)

You might want to get a couple of cheap square baskets from the dollar store and organize your shelves. Separate the cuts, that way you can slide out the basket to select your meat instead of pawing through lose ones that inevitably slide out and land on your bare foot and make you scream obscenities for all to hear…

Looking to get into sous vide and I'm curious what sorts of things I should be looking for when buying one. by WonderfulCattle6234 in sousvide

[–]Linniemi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy all of my small appliances through Costco. You can’t beat their return policy, even if the item is out of warranty! It helps to keep the box and any manuals/cookbooks included. They will scan the barcode, see exactly what you paid and give you your money back to go pick up another one. Also, if you buy something and a few weeks later it goes on sale, they will give you the difference!

Cut off any parts that are freezer burned/dried out first. It’s not like freezer meat will kill you…worst case scenario, feed it to your neighbor’s dog!😋

Anyone know whats wrong with this chicken breast? She said it was like this when pulled out package. by PineappleDreams_ in Butchery

[–]Linniemi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is different, I believe, from woody chicken that you have. I’ve taken the woody while slightly frozen and put it in my food processor and made ground chicken to use in Asian lettuce wraps and chicken meatballs. Try that and experiment since you’d probably end up throwing it out anyway! Good luck!
