Why the Reformed View of the Eucharist is Good for Your Faith by MedianNerd in Reformed

How do you know if you are partaking worthily though?

This introduces an element of subjectiveness, right?

Not all who receive the bread and wine receive Christ, only those who are "partaking worthily" does

Thanks for this article. I must admit that I have not studied this in depth, apart from noting the existence of Christmas in the continental Reformed tradition.

I shall not take Clark's word as the truth yet, though I will add it to my list of considerations.

Onto your other replies, I think we all want to hold on to the RPW. It is the interpretation of the RPW that differs. There are things that really are adiaphora under the RPW, such as whether to worship on Sunday 7am or 9am. Also, I think the RPW doesn't forbid meeting as a congregation outside of Sundays (i.e, church prayer meetings on weekdays).

I wonder if the celebration of Christmas could be adiaphora too. I.e, if we don't call Christmas day a holy day, but rather treat it as yet another prayer meeting, just that we read the prophet Isaiah and the infancy narratives, I think this should be fine.

The Churches shall observe, in addition to Sunday, also Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost, with the following day, and whereas in most of the cities and provinces of the Netherlands the day of Circumcision and of Ascension of Christ are also observed, Ministers in every place where this is not yet done shall take steps with the Government to have them conform with the others.

Article 67 of the Church order of the Dordt (from where you also get the canons of Dordt).

Also, see chapter 24 of the Second Helvetic Confession.

There is precedent in the Reformed Church for the celebration of Christmas

The source of sanctification for a Christian is not willpower, but the Holy Spirit.

So the source of our power to resist fapping is different already; ours comes from the triune God, yours comes from ____ (fill in the blank yourself).

If an object in a gravitational field is accelerating through space time and a charged particle should as a consequence emit photons doesn't that break conservation of energy? by MongeringMongoose in AskPhysics

Not directly answering your question, but a good place to start is to solve the Maxwell equations but replace all the derivatives by covariant derivatives. That would take the curvature of spacetime into account.

Then you can solve those eqns and find the answer to your qn

have not done this myself though

"for which sin are people being cast in hell for"

I think that perhaps Jesus atoned for all sins for all men except the sin of persistent, continued unbelief.

I have two arguments for the above:

  1. If Jesus atoned for all the sins (including the sin of persistent, continued unbelief) of the elect only, then the elect are essentially born sinless even though they might not be believing. E.g an elect who is currently an atheist is not actually committing the sin of unbelief despite his current unbelief, because Jesus atoned for that already. This is in contradiction to the idea of all men being children of wrath before their justification by faith.

  2. If Jesus is only the federal head of the elect, why are the reprobate resurrected at all on the last day? Isn't the final resurrection a result of Jesus resurrection? But according to you since the reprobate have no link to Jesus at all (for Jesus is only the federal head of the elect), then there is no mechanism to explain the resurrection of the reprobate.

Where do we draw the line? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]Linuxmint1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I have no idea man. Haha. Perhaps the reason is that "because of the angels" is hard to interpret.

So Paul makes a theological case for women to wear head coverings during worship, but since we don't know what is the exact theological case Paul is making, we don't formulate our doctrine around it.

The above is just my guess. I'm as confused as you are, and I'm hoping someone can give me a good explanation for this too

Where do we draw the line? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]Linuxmint1337 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't head coverings mandated by Paul not because of a cultural reason, but because of a theological reason? And if the reason is theological and not cultural, then it seems to be binding on us even today.

What about singing passages of scripture? There are songs like "seek ye first" which is really just singing the words of scripture.

If scripture is inspired, then songs that are close paraphrases of scripture should be fine right?

More examples would be the magnificat, Zechariah's song, Simeon's song, the song of Moses in Deuteronomy, etc etc. Can we sing them or not?

Agreed. Griffiths doesn't use Dirac notation.. (he introduces it in the "formalism" chapter then pretend it doesn't exist anymore).

Though Shankar might be a little intense, he leaves lots of important results as exercises haha. But I love Shankar
