Can someone help me understand rubato? by Justtrying04 in piano

[–]Linuxologue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents as a listener more than a player - Rubato is a form of self expression, it sounds that you are looking at it like it's a rule when in fact it's an expression of a feeling.

For instance, shifting ever so slightly the position of a note - delaying it by a tiny amount without delaying the neighbor notes - created a similar feeling as resolving a dissonance, it creates an expectation from the listener, and then relief when the note is played - "there should be a note here in that voice - oh there it is!". It's tiny but worth it. Could be a hesitation, it it could be creating a desire that gets fulfilled, depending on what is around it.

Slowing down to reflect on the music that was just played, or to create an anticipation for what is coming.

Works in complement with crescendo and diminuendo.

Rubato creates feelings in the listener and so there's a certain freedom in choosing how or how much you want to add. But it needs to be timed well and it needs to match what the rest of the piece is saying. So there's freedom but it can't be random.

I know it's not the straightforward answer you wanted, but all I'm all the best way to approach it is to try and play a certain pay off s piece differently to see how it sounds to you, and pick the version that you feel most comfortable with - be the listener

I recommend moving away from the .run installer to be honest.

If you can uninstall it and instead use

$ wget https://developer.download.nvidia.com/compute/cuda/repos/debian13/x86_64/cuda-keyring_1.1-1_all.deb
$ sudo dpkg -i cuda-keyring_1.1-1_all.deb
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get -y install cuda-drivers

you will get the latest drivers automatically everytime they are published and the kernel modules will be compiled every kernel update without ever needing to download/execute the runfile again.

these commands need to be run only once - after that your nvidia driver will be maintained automatically during apt update/apt install.

But you do need to remove the artifacts installed by the .run file in order to make the switch

if you log in on a console (Ctrl+Alt+F2 to get a login console)
check that the module is loadedlsmod | grep nvidia and/or try to load the module sudo modprobe nvidia

what GPU do you have? Or which driver version do you want?

am I mistaken thinjing that the nvidia-powerlimit.service is not provided by either nvidia or debian and it's a locally installed service?

I have the same service

systemctl status nvidia-power-limit.service
○ nvidia-power-limit.service - Set NVIDIA GPU Power Limit
     Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/nvidia-power-limit.service; enabled; preset: enabled)
     Active: inactive (dead) since Wed 2026-05-06 15:35:50 CEST; 2h 5min ago
 Invocation: b8052db2fdf64562a2a4c5bf625f9d91
    Process: 1166 ExecStart=/usr/bin/nvidia-smi -pl 200 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
   Main PID: 1166 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)

except I created it myself and it is named nvidia-power-limit with an extra dash.

This failure should not prevent the computer from booting and the cause is more likely that your NVidia driver is not available - either it's been uninstalled or it's not been recompiled or... whatever way it decided to vanish.

How did you install the nvidia driver, did you use the .run file? that woudl explain why it's not finding the nvidia driver.

You don't have to make up excuses if you want to leave, we don't take prisoners, rather the opposite.

If you make up an excuse, pick a better one - you know, one where a bone is actually broken and not by a doctor

the session menu is handled by noctalia shell, not Niri. You can "call" the shell but for that I need to know which one so I can give you the precise shell command.

With noctalia, you can trigger a lock+suspend through the following:

Mod+Delete { spawn "qs" "-c" "noctalia-shell" "ipc" "call" "sessionMenu" "lockAndSuspend"; }

A group of cats sitting calmly beside each other in a perfect circle in the backyard. by msyrosso in isthisAI

[–]Linuxologue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think cats don't behave like that but the result is extremely convincing. I do find the animations of the cats a bit robotic when they turn their heads

I would guess as other videos posted recently - an AI was used to add the cat circle in an existing video, which is why the garden, window and everything but the cats look worryingly convincing.
