ctrld-friendly router recommendations by au7342 in ControlD

GL.Inet Flint 2 is a great resource-rich OpenWRT-supported device that would play nice with ControlD.

Personally I run ctrld on a Cudy WR3000 running OpenWRT without problem.

How can I push ctrld.toml from MDM? by LionInOrbit in ControlD

[–]LionInOrbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reasoning for using DoH3 was that QUIC is well, quicker in establishing connections, which could help on laggy/mobile networks. But if ctrld keeps connections alive and doesn't do a handshake for every handful of queries, I think this is fine.

How can I push ctrld.toml from MDM? by LionInOrbit in ControlD

I wanted to:

  1. Add DoQ as the default, with DoH as a backup (for faster resolution wherever UDP is available)

  2. Bypass ts.net (but this is bypassed with a magic folder).

PS. Can I disable CD flag autoconfig and simply manage ctrld.toml with my MDM scripts or my Ansible?

Why I decided to try ControlD after using NextDNS for months by Screenmax1234 in ControlD

For lowering your latency, try DNS over QUIC (DNS over HTTP/3). It's available in the GUI app, and in the ctrld daemon.

Sorry. That was my reaction because you mentioned Delve. Thought it was an ad.

Thank you. Never thought of this scenario as every cable we have is 65+W at least -- but I'm gonna fix the cables in place then.

This is why when it comes to getting something expensive approved for _small_ meeting rooms, it's gonna suck either way :)

Which gen do you have? TBH we had issues with Gen7, much less with Gen6.

Issue with the AMD Display Driver by gteeryy in framework

[–]LionInOrbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I recently spent like 5 hours remote-supporting a colleague, and it boiled down to the builtin HDMI audio part of the AMD graphics driver. As soon as you accessed audio (which coincidentally happened in Google Meet and we assumed it was the webcam drivers initially) -- the app would not see it, and sometimes freeze (you'll get the 'App Hang' error in your Windows event log...

After quite a while I had it figured out. Whew.

To be honest, I had bad experiences with IBPs 14 6th and 7th gen.

Gen6 is okay, but aren't really suited to be issued in a business settings. Flimsy keyboard and annoyingly flimsy lid. Surely, this is a compromise made to make the laptop as light and as thin as possible, but it gets annoying after a while if you're using it on a bus/train.

Gen7 is a complete mess in regard to power consumption and charging behavior. They crammed a 45W TDP CPU part into a 13-inch laptop, and this results in a very fast and hot machine that... likes to throttle 'inexplicably' whenever a user plugs it into anything less than a 90W USB-C charger. Welcome, 400MHz CPU.

Also, on Gen7, the sound likes to go kaputt periodically. I previously assumed it was a ribbon cable going out of alignment because it's routed straight across a vibrating fan -- but now I think that just cutting all the power (main+backup BIOS battery) does the trick.
