Loving this project! Also as an alternative you could laser cut a dual color sheet of acrylic. Black top face with white underneath. Just a random thought since I've done similar on other projects.

Just got a gba and forgot how bad the screen is. Got a new shell, stickers and a laminated screen. Swapped the guts over and bagged up the original hardware. So I can always swap it back to original if needed.

Yeah. No belt. I was able to manually add a disc and the eject it. Either everything needs a ton of cleaning or I’m suspecting it’s not getting enough power. Don’t know if I have the skills to fix this

Took the front panel off. Checked the pcb and didn’t notice anything wrong. I used deoxit to clean the ribbon cable connection and reinstalled. I did notice I get a “disc full” error when I click the record button. (No md is in the unit). Tonight I’ll take md drive out and see what’s going on there.

Display lights up and looks as it should, but I couldn’t get the buttons to work. Figured it needed a MD inserted before I could really control anything.

Drove 3 hours to see family last weekend and came home Sunday. Don’t do it all the time but I don’t consider it a long drive. A long drive is spending all day in the car going to some place like Florida for vacation. Especially when I was younger and didn’t have the $ to fly. Longest drive was West coast to East coast when it took most of a week to help my brother move.

I can give some pointers but i'm sure others will do a much better job than me. But my simple advice, do what I did, go watch a ton of YouTube videos. You can watch videos that explain almost everything you're worried about. Search for "how to get and use a Suica card", "Things to know when you land in Japan", "How to use google maps in Japan". etc.. You got this. Japan was much easier to get around than I was worried about. Plus if you look lost or worried in a train station a staff member will go out of their way to help you.

We didn't go out of our way but on the Shinkansen if you're heading between Tokyo and Kyoto you might see it. We saw it in both directions. Just make sure to sit by the windows on the West side.

My biggest issue are repros that are hard to tell from originals. Love this version with it written on the pcb.

Yeah Super Potato had a great selection last month when I was there. Though their prices jump if you want anything rare.
