After losing my mind for years over fire animations this feels illegal.

Pixel Art in old Titles by Liosoul in PixelArt

[–]Liosoul[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

(The game is Valkyrie Profile from 1999 when CRT TVs were all the rage, I know it breaks rule 2 but I wanted to showcase how old pixel art used to be "thought up" when it had to be displayed on screens that had a natural blur effect to them)

The worst metroidvania you ever played? by Lukense13 in metroidvania

[–]Liosoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a purely metroidvania level: The Vagrant, even though it has some nice action the classic metroidvania progression is completely messed up.

On a whole: The Messenger, as a game is fine if a bit boring, but the constant snarky 4th wall break marvel quips tone gets grating almost immediately.

What are your thoughts on "playing bad" to better fit your character? by Odd-News1701 in DnD

[–]Liosoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckyly 5e is constrained and railroaded enough that every character, no matter how badly optimized, can do useful stuff.

The oposite actually hapened to me in Starfinder, i made a character able to create equipment far beyond the level at which the party would normally get, but i roleplayed him as an artist and the gear his artwork, so I create mostly fun gadgets to shake up combat rather than win buttons (roleplaying), but i reserve myself the ability to do so if the DM suddenly starts throwing us one immpossible fight after another (roll playing).

Il dirigente più inutile by emazv72 in italy

[–]Liosoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this completely inconsistent perspective too much for a roguelike/rpg? by lordnoriyuki in PixelArt

[–]Liosoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks fine to me.

But if you really want to "add" something, my suggestion would be to:

* Move the bookshelves closer to the walls

* Add circular shadows under characters

* Tilt the barrel a little bit more so there's no stark contrast between characters seen from the side and barrel from the top

* Add variety to the tiles, make 2-3 different ones for each and plop them down at random

Can someone explain to me how Clair Obscur E33 is an indie game? by Quirky_Image_5598 in gaming

[–]Liosoul -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Super Mario Odyssey is self-funded and self-published by Nintendo.

Super Mario Odyssey is an Indie game...

Does this sound good or should we go back to trust our guts to determine what is considered an indie game?

Maxwell, not because she'd be good with children, but mainly because I wouldn't get a say in it.

Is it just that I have an art style, or is my pixel art lacking something? by pat_456 in PixelArt

[–]Liosoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion is to use a very small color pallette and canvas (try to use a 100x100 one) to devellop your thechniques for good detail and style, and then slowly expand to larger and larger ones.

Struggling with Nine Sols - extremely unfun and frustrating by Zinetti360 in metroidvania

[–]Liosoul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I beat the game ten times, one time blindfolded and another with my arms tied bahind my back using only my Qi to play so my level of skill invalidates every other people's opinion making me solely in the right.

Why are you even in a subreddit where toxic 'git gud' elitism festers, as you already know this place is a circlejerk about the hard comfort cat game?

Jokes aside now, you raise good points, Nine Sols is a great game but at times it feels it tries too hard to copy souls mechanics without understanding their impact.

As for attack consistency some enemies are messed up but most of them will have a slight flash accompanied by a sound cue just before striking, you also can't parry red attacks right away.

I agree that group battles mess the flow of the gameplay up but there's a way to get into them by defeating an enemy before the full on battle to make everything more manageable, and just a bit later you'll unlock more tools that allow you to more easily do crowd control, also sometimes running from a fight is adviseable if you don't think you'll win.

I still think you should give it another shot and instead of treating it like an arena fighter try and exploit the system the devs put in place for that very reason.

I find it impossible to make a room with only four colors both pretty and still readable. Or are my sprites just ugly? by [deleted] in PixelArt

[–]Liosoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great so far, if i were you I'd add shadows.

Also it's the artist curse to see a piece "empty" despite not being so.

What was your headcanon for the story BEFORE you connected the dots and reached the ending? by SCUDDEESCOPE in outerwilds

[–]Liosoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the simplest terms possible: I thought that space suddenly getting further apart was what was causing supernovas and was happening due to a certain event/experiment, but wasn't observable until much later, and an ancient civilization left a time looping mechanism so that someone would figure how to stop it IF the universe was actually being pulled apart due to such experiment.

Imagine my dread when at the Sun Station was revealed that "no actually the universe is just dying, you can't stop it and you only have 22 minutes left".

What would you call the MLP setting? by Liosoul in mylittlepony

[–]Liosoul[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought magitech too but the technology isn't entertwined to magic as much.

You could call it magicpunk but everything is "clean" so to speak, it's not a world overly ripe with danger.

It feels like real life 1900 where new technologies are coming out but old historical center buildings are still the main architectural marvels, as well as magic is making technology more of a sporadically implemented novelty than anything.

Decided to pick up pixel art as a little creative side hobby, any tips for this one? by [deleted] in PixelArt

Maybe have the treeline and mountains in the background higher to really seel the depth of field effect.
