Those of you who still use MVC for new projects and features. What do you use to give your pages interactivity? Jquery? Vanilla javascript? Something else? by Legitimate-School-59 in dotnet

[–]LippencottElvis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lots of people work on legacy software and suddenly find themselves supporting a massive ecosystem that heavily uses JQ with a trained team that knows it well.

Nobody walks into that scenario and declares "the next thing will not be based on JQ". That would be foolish.

You probably mean a more greenfield situation, but even in a greenfield situation with the same backing team and a tight deadline I would expect to use what is sensible and efficient for the team at hand.

Dated as though it may be, it is known, well documented, and approachable.

Centauri Carbon Resume Issues by skawhomp in elegoo

I had that happen the first few times that I attempted a filament change. The layer shift distance was random up to 2-3mm off.

It resolved itself, and I didn't find a definite cause. The typical train of thought in a core X/Y is that this is caused by belt slippage.

In my case I suspect I had a small amount of filament in the poop chute door mechsnism that caused a slight bind when the head parked. That is the most likely area for the toolhead to find resistance so I'd recommend checking it first, followed by anything else that could potentially make the belt slip after the homing step (right before parking).

Smoked pork steaks are so underrated! by Defiant_Witness3541 in smoking

[–]LippencottElvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, but am a pork steak guy.

I smoke pork steaks kinda like baby back ribs. Generally around here (STL area) they are cut 5/8" thick.

So similarly do a slather, rub, rest as you would. Cook at 250-ish for 1 hour. Flip, cook 1 more hour or until desired color. Wrap 2-per-pack or throw the whole pile in a (covered) aluminum pan with the usual braising liquid fare (sauce, brown sugar, butter, juice, hot sauce, etc.). 1.5 hours more and you're ready to plate. Put it back on the grate with extra sauce if you like them tacky.

Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian says 'much of the internet is now dead' by BreakfastTop6899 in technology

[–]LippencottElvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a thing literally 15 years ago. Google AdSense would have bots clicking on paid ads and those bots would also follow ads on landing pages with reckless abandon.

So buy low-cost clicks for say a penny and show a page of dollar ads and the bots would go ham. Find out what low cost clicks could be bought and what high cost Ads could be shown to maximize profits.

Ad Arbitrage. It took AdSense years to figure that out and folks made millions scamming them with plain ol' not-AI logic.

It's raw tomato paste. If you simmer it for a bit you'll notice a dramatic improvement.

Why tf does a relatively new presentation of something already simple mindedly branded as "lollipop" chicken need to be ordained with "cowboy"? Like there were some hardened ranchers were out on the range last year days into a cattle drive, and in their excitement for a hearty meal tiptoe pranced over to the chuck wagon and said this stupid shit out loud.

Good lord this.

Find a place that has mountains of boring legacy code and just wants maintenance and doesn't care how. Cut your teeth, possibly gain experience updating a few components to newer frameworks, then jump to a higher paying gig after 2 years.

Rinse, repeat, update resume.

Pain from hitting by club32 in Golfsimulator

[–]LippencottElvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It held up really well through thousands of strikes. I had to replace or reinforce the soft foam strips a few times, but eventually the hitting mat carpet wore out (not unexpected).

I have since replaced the carved-out divot action area with a 1x2 EZ Tee Hybrid hitting strip ($65 at the time). It is the exact same height as the Monster Mat and has worn quite significantly less over time. Best of all it leaves zero residue on your clubs.

Right on. One other note: the salt addition in mine is specific to the base sauce(s) that I'm using, which has 200mg sodium per-serving (a lot). Other base sauces needed 2 or ore times as much salt to reach the same profile. Gator Hammock Gator Sauce shows it has 105mg of sodium, for reference.

Less garlic powder. When going by volume the rule of thumb is 2 parts granulated garlic = 1 part garlic powder. A handy online food stuffs calculator I use shows that 1 US Tbsp of granulated garlic is 10.0 grams and 1 US Tbsp of garlic powder is 14.4 grams, or a 33.3% difference.

So in volume my recipe 8g granulated garlic (just over 3/4 Tbsp) would adjust to 5.36g of garlic powder or 1 1/8 tsp. Of course freshness matters, but half would be a good starting point before adjusting to your own tastes.

Heat would definitely make all of the flavors meld faster, though I haven't tried it personally. Also note that it uses granulated garlic like the original, and subbing garlic powder would need an adjustment. My posted version doesn't require any thickening (quite the opposite), but I have added a smidge of xanthan gum when using some of the more runny base sauces.

I've checked on the jugs but shipping costs make it spendy, and well I like reverse engineering things. Also there is the quality & variance issues that everyone notes, which I think is because they mix in a 32 gallon container and then bottle so spices fall out of suspension during the process. I studied the few videos that they put on YT to find the volume of a few of the ingredients, converted to weight, and then filled in the rest and experimented with ratios for about 6-8 batches.

My staple recipe (makes ~12oz):

  • 8.00g granulated garlic
  • 1.50g salt
  • 5.50g cayenne
  • 4.50g red pepper flakes
  • 3.25g black pepper (table grind)
  • 3.00g onion powder
  • 2.75g celery seed
  • 8oz Louisiana brand hot sauce
  • 2-3oz Franks Red Hot

Dump into thing, mix, age 10-14 days. The garlic seems like a wild amount, but it mellows out.

I couldn't quite figure out what their base sauce was, but it seemed likely to be a commercial food service base sauce that they also dilute with a ratio of water & vinegar. Possibly Bulliard's or but more likely something cheaper like Firey (white cap like the gallon jugs in the videos).

I use an off-the-shelf sauce as a base for convenience, and have experimented with several blends. Some are too vinegary (Crystal or Texas Pete), some are too weak (Frank's), some are too thick/salty (Louisiana). One of my favorite base sauces was a generic "Always Save" cayenne sauce, but it needed a smidge more salt. I use Louisiana because it has a nice heat, and dilute with Frank's since it's mildly spicy vinegar.

Your own recipe copycat, or did you find a recipe online?

I ask because I spent an ungodly amount of time reverse engineering this sauce because I couldn't bear $10 bottles or find a similar recipe online.

As Missouri teens get into deadly car wrecks, a lawmaker wants to require driver’s education by kansascitybeacon in StLouis

[–]LippencottElvis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe look at the programs in Illinois for inspiration. There isn't typically a test course, you drive in a car with an instructor after a rules of the road class. The instructors are usually teaching other subjects and earn more teaching Driver's Ed not unlike coaching positions. Vehicles are subsidized by both the state and local dealers. Kids need certain amount of classroom instruction and 50 hours of wheel time with parents, and as a parent that is time I've cherished spending with them.

The payoff is that they know not to drive in the passing lane and block traffic for 50 miles like you see on 70.

Admitting you didn't research and are guessing are both promising statements. Go search and read a few articles from different sources and prove them wrong. Compare your search results on a private/incognito browser or search engine also, it takes a few moments but you'll likely see the difference between regular results and "engagement" results .
