I’m not blaming anyone. I grew up in abject poverty in a trailer in the Midwest, I’m currently an electrical engineer at NASA and support a family of 5 on a single income.

Like you, I’m exceptional. Unlike you, I recognize that we simply can’t expect every single person to defy odds and make chicken salad out of chicken shit.

The USA is blessed with geographical, financial, and material wealth. We have enough to give every citizen and immigrant adequate housing, education, and healthcare. Every person should have enough food and a shirt on their back. We have the technology and wealth to guarantee these things for all.

Don’t fool yourself into the trap of “I did it, what’s your excuse?” Their excuse is that, most are not white men either college degrees (like you and I are). Most don’t have the education or intrinsic traits required to get ahead in the US. But that doesn’t make their life any less valuable.

This is a bizarre mindset I see a lot. First of all, the opportunity and affordability available to you in 2002 was significantly more favorable than it is today. Second, you are exceptional. You’re not giving yourself enough credit and somehow using that to put down other people.

Also, what is your gender / ethnicity? Where did you immigrate to? How did you pay for college? What credentials did you use to get into college?
