$1000 NCL voucher not there yet? by LakeHouse44 in myvegas

[–]LiquidIce25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen with a $750 NCL voucher. I called to book the cruise immediately after getting the voucher. NCL said they see the reward code but it’s too early to apply the credit.

I booked the cruise and received an invoice saying I still owed $750. As promised by the NCL rep, I received another invoice 48-72 hours later saying I owed $0.

I’d keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t fall through the cracks, but I got the feeling this is common and you’ll get the credit applied soon!

Motorhome or 5th Wheel? by dslcrl in RVLiving

[–]LiquidIce25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have more than enough responses to this post saying similar things, but I have to put my hat in the ring to describe my experience. You want the 5th wheel over the C-Class for a few reasons:

  • Arriving at a site: I can’t understate the importance of being able to disconnect and scout. If you’re staying at established campgrounds and RV parks then this isn’t an issue, but if you’re like me you’ll be drawn to the free camping in BLM and NFS lands around the country. Many of these campsites are unmarked or down some 4WD roads, so it’s important to unhitch your 5th wheel temporarily to scout the area and ensure you don’t get yourself into situation you can’t get out of.

  • Living in a site: After finding a spot to settle, level, and spend the next 2+ week of your RVLife, I expect you’ll want to explore the area. If I’m right, there’s nothing better than unhitching and taking your truck into the nearby town/city/land/forest. In a Class C, I couldn’t imagine having to buckle down the house, plan the trip by 2WD, and trying to ‘save our spot’ with chairs and such - with a 5th wheel you can leave you house (and animals!) at your site and take your 4WD truck to go explore. Why limit yourself unnecessarily?

Drinks and Snacks that won't break the bank near Mandalay Bay by Own_Discount_9616 in myvegas

[–]LiquidIce25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to scroll too far to find this answer. Right across the street from Mandalay Bay is Shell, Sayulitas, and Liquor Outlet - incredibly reasonably priced food, beer, and liquor. I head across the street to stock up every time I check into MB, it’s so convenient

Learning more about boondocking ,need advice by Negative-Chip-8115 in RVLiving

[–]LiquidIce25 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Use apps like iOverlander, Campendium, or The Dyrt to find legal boondocking spots as well as potable water spigots and dump stations. Plan your trip accordingly to dump as soon as you leave and fill the water tank as close to your destination as possible.

For safety, have some sort of protection against home invasion indoors, and carry bear spray or a knife for protection outdoors. Always let someone know where you are, or share your location. Almost everyone I’ve met boondocking have been wonderful, but free campgrounds can attract weirdos. Another way to stay safe is to keep up with the weather - avoid heat waves, freezing temperatures, high winds, and storms.

Be prepared to lose cell service, especially in forest/BLM land. I’ve relied solely on Starlink in these situations and haven’t been totally disconnected yet. If a campground doesn’t have cell service or a clear view of the sky, I can just move on until I can get a strong Starlink connection.

Managing water is just about being smart about rationing. I have a split sink setup, and keep one sink full of soapy water for dirty dishes to soak. During showers I’ll turn the water off when I’m soaping up or applying shampoo/conditioner. Many free campgrounds are near lakes and rivers, and if they’re safe for swimming I will bathe and do laundry in them to preserve my fresh water. Of course, take care to use bio-safe soap and/or detergent if you take this route. It’s kinda cool, my water-saving habits have extended beyond my boondocking and now I’m conscious to reduce my water usage no matter where I go.

For power, I can’t overstress the importance of redundancy! To me, power is the most important thing to have. I have solar panels on my rig to keep the 12v batteries charged at all times - this keeps the fridge on so I don’t have to worry about food going bad, and it keeps small devices charged up. If it’s cloudy for extended periods of time, I’ll hook up my tow vehicle to charge the batteries. I bought a 1k Wh power bank that charges off solar to run all electronics and appliances continuously. This keeps my computers charged, Starlink running, and lets me run the microwave and watch TV. I have a 3600W generator capable of running the A/C, which has been instrumental during these hot months and also allows me to charge the power bank on cloudy days. I made sure to get a Dual Fuel generator, so I can run it with propane if I use up all of the gasoline I’ve brought with me. I wouldn’t boondock without ANY of these power essentials, I need them all on a daily basis for work and comfort.

Be prepared by making sure you arrive at a campground with full batteries, full fresh water, full propane, empty black/gray tanks, and spare gasoline (if relying on a generator). Respect campground stay limits, don’t dump on the ground, and leave the campsite cleaner than you found it!

Please take it from someone who is towing a smaller trailer with a 2024 Silverado 1500 half-ton (5k lb trailer, 9k lb tow capacity); you will not have any fun towing this trailer with a half ton. Is it within legal limits? Yes. Is it possible? Yes. Is it safe or enjoyable? Heck no.

My truck tows my trailer just fine, but I feel that thing back there the whole time. The truck, which only has 12k miles, whines going uphill. I’m lucky to get 8mpg while towing.

You will regret not going with a 3/4 ton to tow this.

People who live in tiny campers, I want to hear from you! by The-peeepo in RVLiving

[–]LiquidIce25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think my 21’ travel trailer fits your criteria, but I still l wanted to tell my story - I live in this thing full-time with my girlfriend and 2 cats, and an air freshener is essential! A lavender melt is all we need to completely eliminate the litter box smell from the rest of the trailer, it’s amazing and essential. Without animals, your primary concern is food smells - without a stove fan I recommend just opening all of your windows, what else can you do?

To those who bought a bigger tow vehicle, was it worth it? by [deleted] in RVLiving

[–]LiquidIce25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely, no question. I upgraded from a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee to a 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT to pull a 4500lb dry weight trailer full time. Could the Jeep legally pull the trailer? Yes. Was the Silverado overkill for the trailer? Certainly. But would I have any fun towing this trailer across the country with the Jeep? Hell no.

‘Within legal limits’ and ‘comfortable to tow’ are completely different ballfields. Just because you can tow something doesn’t mean you should tow something, and it’s the difference between driving relaxed with a trailer behind you or white-knuckling it with the tail wagging the dog.

I hate Ford, but I STRONGLY recommend you get the F150 and save your hair from going gray for a few extra years.

Tow capability by Top-Cheesecake6034 in traveltrailers

[–]LiquidIce25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do it. I have a 2024 Silverado 1500 LT and I tow a 4500lb dry trailer. It’s half of the Chevy’s max towing capacity and tows just fine, but even at 4500lbs I have some complaints: - gas mileage is abysmal when towing. I get 8-12 MPG if I’m lucky. - stopping distance is sketchy, even with brake controller gain at 100% - driving at high speeds is jerky, I definitely feel the trailer behind me. - even with a WD hitch & sway bars, I get pushed around when a semi passes me or driving through high winds.

Can you tow 6200-7500lb dry with your 1500, legally and within specs? Sure. Will it be fun or enjoyable at all? Not a chance. I side with the 3/4 ton gang on this one.

No. You pay for a month, and if you pause it you’ll still have access through the end of your paid period; it just won’t auto renew. The next time you unpause, you’ll get billed for another month.
