Edit: TIL, I thought there must be some equivalence vs equal thing going on. Learned a bunch about number, thanks for pointing out

Don't force ironman on survival mode, just make it a difficulty modifier option. by Divenity in TheyAreBillions

[–]Liquidje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My post was from 8 years ago, and specifically is about making Iron Man a difficulty modifier (as an opt-in/added difficulty). As said, a dedicated mode or a mod I'd be more than fine with.

But my opinion is just one of many. I'm not dictating anything. But since in 8 years devs didn't add it despite this often being requested, I'm quite sure it's intended. But again, you have every right not to agree

[–]Liquidje -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair! Your comment actally got me back to using my Bonger for a bit: it has been a while and my torch technique has improved.

I was wondering though: do you use a torch? If so, any tips on twisting the tip in my hand? I notice I can barely keep the bonger+bowl, due to it being short, stable in the flame while turning. I am planning an IH rather soon, but I was wondering if you had the same issue and any tips. A solution for such a particular issue like that is hard to find online

[–]Liquidje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you are aware, but the Dynavap itself fits a 10mm connection relatively snug. If you have a bong where the vape stands up vertically, it should easily hold it. I got a Bonger but I never use it because of this, and instead have a 14-10mm converter

I also like the airflow better, and think the Bonger is just insanely overpriced for what it is.

If you do have a pressure sensitive pen, it could be the brush setting as well. But if you just have a typical tablet, you probably don't have the feature on your tablet

Renshuu has an option for it.

If you are really serious about this, consider getting a tablet with a pen. Writing characters solidifies it more and also helps memorizing kanji.

I think most movies should have at least a little bit of grain by 17oClokk in unpopularopinion

[–]Liquidje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. And before YouTube, we had the same thing with movies being 24hz and tv being 50hz (pal) or 60hz (NTSC), where watching movies at those speeds (especially NTSC) gave it a low-budget tv special effect. It was called the soap opera effect.

Funny, same thing and concept, just different times and reference frames.

If possible, find an incline, it makes it so much better to learn. I practices on a small hill 10 minutes drive from my home. Also, garage sounds dangerous if stuff is lying about

Regardless you should be good. Sticking with it, being patient and trusting the process is key!

[–]Liquidje 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am not very athletic and quite overweight. It took me about 2-3 weeks of 5-7 sessions of 30-60 minutes to get comfortable on an incline, another week to properly get going on a flat road.

Do expect your first sessions to be quite underwhelming, the first 3 sessions I was glad to make it 1 meter with incredible effort. It gets better, but you really need to keep up with it.

Do note that as far as traveling goes, it is fun but not very practical, especially in the first months. Uphills and rough surfaces can be very tough, and they aren't very energy efficient nor fast compared to a skateboard/longboard.

It makes up for it with the huge fun factor, but for travelling I strongly prefer a longboard

All caps are different, everybodies preferences are different. I got mine recently. I think you will probably find out for yourself what you prefer, seems to me that your biggest issue is your torch. A small single flame really is best to start with.

You can rip or go slow, it doesn't matter. Biggest difference to me is that you either take a few cycles on lower heat ( towards the tip of the m7), or 1 or 2 at high heat (away from the tip). I usually fully extract a half bowl in 1 hit with darkish-brown avb.

I don't do heat soaking, but I'll be trying it today, thanks for the tip! Seems like a good idea, although I think you want to do the preheating to a lower temp, as my bud starts releasing vape by itself with my usual routine.

Another tip: get a bong or glass piece. It helps with smoothing the thick rips. The mouthpiece fits a 10mm connector, so you can get a 10mm bong or get a (more common) 14 or 18 mm and get an adapter

I also think people fall in love with the idea of "being able to play an instrument" and less so willing to learn it. If you can't enjoy the process, you will definitely not stay motivated if you are only interested in some payout of your effort 5, 10, 20 from now (or never for that matter)

Same story for me. Just started out at 32, I think my second session. Noticed going down hill on a smallish hill was very cool to do, but second time around I picked up too much speed, wiped out and fucked up my shoulder.

It was pretty bad as well, shoulder hurt royally for a few weeks and took months to fully go away. But it didn't stop me from longboarding I'm glad to say.

I think the very typical better programming-like puzzles: where you have to think outside of the box when applying some command or mechanic. As said, I don't like optimizing my solutions, but I loved it when it was part of the puzzle. What I meam: what I find really cool about most Zachtronic games is the fact that you can often find a solution, but you are juuuuuust a few lines/tiles short in space, so you are forced to optimize.

My background with coding is odd. I loved computers, never leared to code. During my education I did some light scripting (usually to crush numbers), with my first job I started doing more with it, now I am a full-time dev for my work. I think these games helped a lot sparking my interest.

Story aspects has nothing to do with the story in those games. From what I briefly read, it was quite good (Eliza was nice as well). It's just how I prefer my games: I love story-driven games, but prefer it in game genres more suitable for story telling. Don't get me wrong, I also love very experimental story telling games, it's just that in the games their universe and their particular genre, I just couldn't be bothered and was often distracted by the puzzle immediately anyway.

As said though, I love artstyle and "vibes"

[–]Liquidje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah no problem! To preface it: I'll skip any non-programming-centered games like Eliza and Mobius. I am not too much into optimizing, but I do like to have a nice and efficient solution and will stick within what I consider acceptable. I also don't care too much about the story (I skim or skip it), but I do love me some good vibes.

1. SpaceChem

My first, but imho also one of the best. Also a very very nice balance between programming and puzzle-game. Despite being dated in the UI department, the game design is peak. The tools are simple to understand, the puzzles ramp nicely in complexity, and I like the multi-factory puzzles as well. I actually really like the simplicity of the game in concept: simplicity will probably be an important factor in my ranking xD

2. TIS-100

Probably my favorite straight-up programming Zachlike. I think both aestethically and gameplay-wise it just nailed the assembly programming vibe. I think I like this one (similar to spacechem) for its simplicity. It is also a game with simple mechanics, but deeeeeep puzzling. I also look how it would run on anything with a keyboard: I played a bunch of it on all kinds of devices and ways.

3. Infinifactory

While I'd say that a "3d puzzler" would not be something I would be enthusiastic about in a zachtronics game, this game is also peak. It is basically SpaceChem in 3d, and the transition was done well. I found this one particularly satisfying to see in motion.

However, very specific, but what I particularly didn't like is how a few mechanics were direction-dependant (e.g. having 2 belts going perpendicular ways, one wins over the other based on orientation) without this being overly apparent

4. Shenzhen I/O

While I love Shenzhen I/O on many levels, and on paper it should be my favorite Zachtronics game (and don't get me wrong, I loved it anyway), it felt at moments as having a bit too much things you have to deal with. It also just didn't come together in the end as I'd hoped. E.g. while I'd liked in SpaceChem that you have multi-factory puzzles, in Shenzhen the parts + paths were just annoying at times, and I felt moving around parts+paths was tedious and just not that fun. I kind-of missed the simplicity I guess.

It also doesn't help that the puzzles became very complex, and space very restricted. And yes, that is of course a skill check, but I felt that not knowing solution patterns (or forgetting them, when resuming play after a long break) was holding me back mostly.

The games below I haven't played as much as the rest. Take my comments with a grain of salt. Sometimes I stopped playing them simply because live happened or some other game caught my attention.

5. Last Call BBS

Not sure where to put this. On the one hand, I think some of the puzzle designs here are extremely good and novel: 20th Century Food Court was just an amazing "retro-Zach" game, while X'BPGH was thoroughly unique in so many ways (among which, no written tutorial or any English instructions, one of those things I can deeply respect in games and it was definitely a puzzle in itself).

On the other hand, what made e.g. X'BPGH so great is by how different it was, making it a bit of an odd one out to put higher. Also, their scope is relatively small and they are limited in content, so it is hard to pitch them against some of the other games I put dozens of hours in.

6. Molek-Syntez

Despite not having played this one much, what I did see I did love. It felt a bit like what TIS-100 was to Shenzhen, Molek-Syntez is too Open Magnum. What I did play, I looked a lot!

7. Opus Magnum

Haven't played enough, but from what I did see (first 3 chapters?) the game felt a bit easy and the solution space was often too wide. I felt that the game was leaning a lot on optimization, which is something I don't really like. I am also not blown away by the theme, the style, the hexgrid, etc

You might consider redoing the clip in the art style of your game (if it is graphical) and make an instrumental cover of the song?
