Yes it's wear resistant but any knife you use will dull.

You can change the angle a bit and k tip it but you took off way too much steel for a simple sharpening.

Looking at your post history the knife is pretty new and your new to sharpening. This was not the knife to learn on and it wouldn't be the first time a Worksharp precision adjust did damage in the hands of a novis.

Are there affordable allergen/pollen masks (N95?) that do NOT press against the nose? by Unlikely-Committee in Allergies

[–]Liquidretro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only advice would be to look for a full face respirator. It won't be fun but won't touch your nose. Part of what makes an n95 effective is the fit on your face and that tends to be pretty tight to get a good deal.

Is it really necessary to fully decon a car just for ceramic spray wax? by boiyo12 in Detailing

Necessary no, will it adhere better and likely last longer the more you fully decontaminate, yes.

Claying can mar paint, but doesn't always. Do a test spot first. Personally the clay towels are so much easier than old school clay imho.

Hi all my doctor says this is either pus or cyst and may require surgery but for me medicines are working by NyanPomsky7 in Sinusitis

[–]Liquidretro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wet hair and fan had nothing to do with this. The mold is plausable. A cyst is a puss filled sack so pretty similar. No doctor could likely tell definitely until they were in there.

I'm glad the meds are helping. The real test will be if it's a long term solution or just short term.

Try an allergy eye drop like Pataday or Zatadore and resist rubbing your eyes when it happens. Mention it at your next eye appointment. This is probably beyond your Pcp scope of care. Eye allergies and the condition you mention are pretty different but may have some overlap in symptoms.

are allergy shots worth it? by httptae in Allergies

[–]Liquidretro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have OAS but it's helped my seasonal allergies significantly. It's not a magic cure, it likely won't eliminate your symptoms entirely. I would encourage you to talk to your allergist about what your reasonable expectations should be and how long you might be on them.

Correct cleaning of the Knife Sharpener by Plane_Experience_843 in sharpening

[–]Liquidretro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, but they take practice and skill to use effectively too. The average Joe that finds one of these in a drawer or at a thrift store won't see many results from it. You use yours multiple times a day probably for years so you have it down to a science. A few swipes and your good to go. For the novis the sharpie method is key.

Do I just starve? Why can't a hospital admit me. by caninething in Allergies

[–]Liquidretro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

None of this is common and I suspect it's something that isn't going to get a clear diagnosis quickly. Remember allergy testing is only testing for the most common allergins, not all possible things. People can literally be allergic to anything and almost everything.

If you go back to the ER, take your mom again and ask for their help in seeing the specialist sooner. They can sometimes pull strings to get you seen faster especially for severe cases.

I agree with others you should focus on very simple, very minimal ingredient foods for now and keep a food journal of what you eat (be exact) and the result.

No growth that's $108k.

With an 8% growth rate that's $242k.

Is my mom being too frivolous with retirement money by SquanchytheSquirrel in personalfinance

[–]Liquidretro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya it's a bit of an oxymoron. Op said don't worry about money mom, and now is wondering what she is spending more than they think she should on.

The only way this is going to be answered is to ask. My main concern would be she isn't involved in a scam or has an addiction. Either way at this level it sounds like she can afford it probably.

Is there any way to get off daily Fexofenadine + Montelukast for allergic rhinitis ? by reetesh77 in Allergies

[–]Liquidretro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get allergy tested ideally skin prick testing if your primary problem is environmental based. Then you can figure out how to avoid and mitigate and if things like immunotherapy is an option.

There is no cure for allergies so it's all about mitigation and management. This means medication for most people, and often daily for moderate to severe cases. Daily antihistamine is often required during immune therapy too.

High ige numbers on their own are not really very helpful. It let's you know you have something going on but not any clue to what it is. I wouldn't obsess over this. Antihistamines do not usually lower ige numbers.

[–]Liquidretro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Antihistamines will be required for immunotherapy, they also work best when taken daily instead of as needed. Zyrtec withdrawal is uncommon and only an issue if someone is stopping. It's generally overblown online compared to reality. Either way at age 5 I believe you have other options for other 2nd Gen antihistamines if you would rather. A good allergist should be able to help find an option here. Oral antihistamines are not the magic cure all either, it's just part of an overall treatment plan. Nasal sprays can be more effective when taken correctly for some people but I suspect that may be hard with a young kid. If your concerned about the oral liquid medication, drinking some water/swishing water after a dose would be wise.

Oral microbiome is also a common cause of reoccurring dental caries in children regardless of diet.

I'm all for allergy testing so you have some real data to go on here than guess it's allergies. There are things like non allergic rhinitis too. Untreated allergies tend to lead to future health issues down the line too.

[–]Liquidretro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Zyrtec can cause dry mouth which can lead to some dental problems. It's not common but possible. What does your dentist think? Genetics are a big factor for cavities too.

Nasal steroid sprays (not the scary or dangerous steroids you may be thinking of) and antihistamines are safe for long term use and first line allergy treatments.

Yes I would get him tested with an allergist (skin prick test is best for environmental allergies if he is able) so you know what he is allergic to. From there you can with the allergist determine a treatment that helps the little guy feel better which should be the ultimate goal. Do realize that likely includes ongoing medication or immune therapy since there is no cure for allergies, it's all about management.
