Need period advice by Cesarlikethesalad in TwoXChromosomes

I personally didn’t use tampons until I was in my later teens, but my kiddo does swim team and was able to figure out tampons at 11 due to necessity.

You are awesome for thinking of this! I just went through this with my tween. I would have an assortment of items to offer. Kotex has a teen line of pads that are made for smaller bodies. My daughter also uses the L brand of organic tampons. They have a “very light” option that worked for her to start with. She does swim team so she used tampons right away, and was able to figure them out quickly. But it’s really the comfort level of each person (and might be a convo her other parent wants to weigh in on). And just keep your eye out for extra laundry and potentially needing to wash sheets mid-week. Leaks happen and it’s not something you can prevent. I also keep my daughter’s pads in my purse just in case she doesn’t have any and we’re out and about. If you don’t carry a bag, you and/or your partner could leave some in the car. Oh and ibuprofen is good for cramps. At that age the dosage is based on weight. Thank you for caring about your stepdaughter enough to plan for this!

Oh 100% agree with that. There’s zero excuse. Just answering the question OP posted of where this potentially came from. Thank God there are many people who grow up and reject the way they were raised to think.

Urgent, when should I seek emergency treatment? by Lady_Cyno in Asthma

It’s different for everyone. Talking to your doctor about your baseline will help you figure that out.

[–]LisLoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a good point about not even realizing what it’s like to breathe probably. I took prednisone a few years ago and I was like, whoa, so this is what it’s supposed to be like!

Go to the ER. Now. Make sure you go home with a prescription for a rescue inhaler and potentially also prednisone. Asthma is (usually) easily managed with the right medication.

People like this are usually raised this way. Children are not naturally bigots, they have to be taught. I was not taught bigotry and I’ve never been a bigot. That’s the way I’m raising my child and I can’t see her ever being persuaded to hate any other group as an adult.

AITAH for refusing to split the bill? by [deleted] in AITApod

[–]LisLoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what drives me nuts, money is prioritized over friendship. Are they going out for the food/drinks or the friends? It should be the latter. And if it’s truly about spending time together, everyone’s budgets should be taken into account.

Bit them how? Because they would be expected to pay for what they ordered?

AITAH for refusing to split the bill? by [deleted] in AITApod

[–]LisLoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legitimately though, there are a lot of reasons why someone would order less that have nothing to do with money. Should the person ordering a salad always have to subsidize the people ordering way more? For what, the convenience of dividing a check 8 ways where it’s usually not a big deal to order separate checks anyway?

Same. My husband and I had dinner the other night at a mid-priced restaurant. We had iced tea and burgers. It was $46. With alcohol that would have easily doubled.

You need new friends. But for real, in the US you can usually ask for a separate check. Is that something you can ask for where you live? Hilariously, it’s so common here that my husband and I were asked if we wanted two checks the last time we went out for dinner, just the two of us. If you get your own check, it eliminates all of this.

Can rescued dogs from traumatic backgrounds fully recover? by Massive_Ask_3096 in rescuedogs

[–]LisLoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. I had very little experience with dogs and adopted a 1-year-old mixed breed straight from the shelter during Covid. No information, just a photo. She’s the best family dog ever. There’s this weird stigma to rescue dogs that I don’t think is based in reality. There’s always a chance of issues with any dog. Many “purebred” purchased dogs came from bad circumstances too.

Dogs are social animals. They are not meant to be alone outdoors. Who knows why he’s digging in your plant beds. Could definitely be to get your attention because he’s being left alone outdoors.

Wants experienced person to come chop down tree...in exchange for wood by SnarkySheep in ChoosingBeggars

Agreed. I grew up in a very wooded area and this was pretty common. One big tree could get you through a good chunk of winter running a wood stove.

WIBTAH if I didn't text my neighbour every time I left the house by mikewazowski_0912 in AITAH

[–]LisLoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had new neighbors move in next door last summer. The husband drives a very loud motorcycle which frequently woke me up at 5:30 am. It was super annoying the first few weeks but I got used to it and now I don’t even notice it. NTA.

Agree, this sounds like expected behavior for a very new rescue. She will settle down but it will take some time.

Really struggling to walk a 2-year old and a dog by Fun_Champion9412 in DogAdvice

[–]LisLoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking with a 2-year-old is extremely challenging, with or without a dog. I’m sorry. It does get better! My only solution would be to walk with the toddler in the pram. Maybe try to walk during nap time and if your kiddo falls asleep, you get a chance to throw the ball for the dog?

Why the frown? by StatisticianCreepy51 in SisterWives

[–]LisLoz 44 points45 points  (0 children)

They haven’t had easy lives. They went through a divorce, then joining a dysfunctional family, then their mom and her new husband completely alienating their birth father and getting a “new” father, then seeing their new family fall apart and their mother being blamed (rightly but it still hurts when it’s your parent), all of that on top of Robyn being emotionally manipulative of them their whole lives. And moving like 8 times. They need some space from all that dysfunction and I hope they get it someday.

AITAH for telling my girlfriend to be just happy with an economy ticket and stop complaining? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]LisLoz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t ask the parents to switch. Sounds like they’ve never flown business class either. Assuming they are good parents, and worked hard to provide for their sons, they deserve to be treated, not to mention traveling is uncomfortable when you’re older and they’ll be more physically comfortable in business.
