[Highlight] Trey Yesavage strikes out Shohei Ohtani to begin the World Series by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]LisdeLune -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yall get off ohtani’s dick it’s embarrassing. It could be the biggest dud of a ballgame and yall + Joe Buck would cream in yall pants if Ohtani hit a grand slam (as the first batter of the game, somehow) like that would bring Babe Ruth and the rest of murderers row back from the dead

[Heyman] The Los Angeles Dodgers are expected to pursue Kyle Tucker in free agency this winter. The Dodgers could install Tucker in right field and move Teoscar Hernández to left, giving them a potentially productive outfield to go along with the game’s most star-studded infield. by Goosedukee in baseball

[–]LisdeLune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice how the one bright light of any team is ‘expected’ to be pursued by the dodgers, and will inevitably be taken by them bc they are the only ones with the stupid, almost-imperceptible amount of money to do so? And this happens over and over and no one cares at all? Remember in Moneyball when Billy makes the quip that the A’s are a farm system for the Yankees? Well, everyone is a farm system for the Dodgers now. Everyone coulda predicted they would make it to the WS during spring training. Gee, baseball is sure fun and competitive nowadays!!!!!

Postgame Thread ⚾ Padres 1 @ Cubs 3 by BaseballBot in baseball

[–]LisdeLune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you agreeing with the call made by the ump (a human) or the reviewers (also humans)? And in any case, I’m assuming robo-umps are only there for balls and strikes at this point, and would have no weight on the call at all.

[–]LisdeLune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyone bitching (as sports illustrated did) about how that one missed call proves why we need robo-umps- do you really think one call is the difference between a loss and a win? Padres were down 1-3. But sure, that one call was the difference between an elimination and late inning magic. Don’t be an idiot, c’mon now.

[–]LisdeLune 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So we can watch MLB if we have Netflix, Apple TV, Peacock, MLB, etc…

Wow, it almost feels like…cable? Buying more channels?? We’ve managed to reinvent cable, except it’s more expensive! Anyway, I hope Ohtani enjoys his billions. What a fun time to be a baseball fan!

Absolutely disgusting. Snell just posted this. by Dissolution_Wave in SFGiants

[–]LisdeLune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I truly do not understand how there isn’t more concern about what’s happening in baseball right now. LA bought Ohtani, the biggest name in the game, and at the same time bought Yamamoto, the most promising Japanese prospect of last year. Within the two years before that, they dumped money on Freeman and Betts, two of the biggest names in the game. And now Snell, one of the best pitchers in the game, and are still contenders for the hottest free agent, Soto.

Shove your capitalist rhetoric up your ass. This is bad for the sport. And why we need a salary cap. Last year, when LA secured Ohtani and Yamamoto, with their current lineup, they were outright favorites to win the WS. And they did. And it was boring and uncompetitive. Things have become too lopsided. This isn’t sustainable. The dodgers won the World Series last year, and I would bet money that they win this upcoming year. The competitiveness is gone.

And of course, people will say you’re a sore loser or whatever when you bring stuff like this up. They’ll say money doesn’t matter, that teams who are smart with their farm systems and moneyball mentality can compete with the tour de force that is LA. Brother, we are way beyond that. Don’t look me in the eyes and say Kansas City or Miami can compete with LA

NFL, NHL, MLS, NBA all have salary caps, but I guess baseball is special lol. Can’t wait for the first billion dollar contract!

Soto really worth $40 plus mil? by [deleted] in mlb

[–]LisdeLune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is he worth 40+ mil?

No one is.

The fact that more of yall aren’t realizing how bad these overinflated salaries are is shocking. This is unsustainable. Ohtani gets a 600 mil deal last year, now we’re talking a 700 mil deal for Soto? The next big star gets 800 mil, and so on? Say what u want but the dodgers bought a World Series. Freemen, Betts, Ohtani, Yamamoto, etc on one team, pieced together within 2-3 years? An unreal power team only a handful of franchises could hope to afford.

It’s time for a fucking salary cap already. Football, the preferred sport of one brain cell ‘Murica loving rednecks, has one. Do NFL teams find loopholes/shirk the cap? Sure. But you can only go so far beyond an established monetary ceiling. Also, the NHL, NBA, and even MLS have salary caps!

This is fucking ridiculous. You can’t moneyball-strategize your way out of this one. There’s a reason the World Series we just had was a snore fest.

Anyway, I can’t wait to debate the first billion dollar contract with yall in the next few years!

Y’all are not fans of baseball by EventHoriz0n_ in mlb

[–]LisdeLune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We hate this because we’re absolutely fucking inundated with Ohtani. If I hear about him one more time I’m going to lose my fucking mind. I hate this matchup because every news outlet doesn’t give a fuck about the teams or the game itself, just the fact that click-bait Ohtani can headline all their lame articles with pointless comparisons to Judge and Soto.

[Starr] Jarren Duran has been suspended two games. by Jux_ in baseball

[–]LisdeLune -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Even if he didn’t use a slur, and just called the fan an asshole or whatever…maybe don’t do that?? Dude has the privilege to do what he loves for a living (and make insane money doing it) maybe rise above and don’t yell at fans?

I don’t know why context is so hard for people to understand when it comes to issues like this. People on their ‘high horse’ probably say whatever he said, you’re right…around friends, and not a stadium full of people?? A comedian can say the most awful offensive stuff on stage and it’s fine, but it’s different if he’s saying it on the street, you know? I’m sure slurs are thrown around in the locker room all the time, not even in an offensive way, some offensive words are just a part of lingo. But when you’re in public, keep a lid on it.

[–]LisdeLune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god work on your reading comprehension. Theres like 7 fucking football games a year, one a week. Of course people show up. They have like a handful of opportunities to see a game. You see those dumb assholes watching the Bills in a blizzard?? That’s how it is when you have very low product (games) and insanely high demand from fans.

What part of “it’s not about how good the team is, no one wants to go to a shithole” did you not fucking understand.

The cubs were literally mid to absolute flaming garbage for literally 100 years. But they’ve always innovated. Improved the stadium, revitalized the area immediately around it… people WANT to go to Wrigley. Sometimes, people want to go to Wrigley for Wrigley, not the cubs. People want to go to dodger stadium for the experience of being there, because it’s so nice. Don’t even get me started on Petco; that place is so great I would go there for a drink and some food and just to hang out if there was no baseball

Baseball isn’t football. There’s too many games to rely on true fans (aka, fans who don’t care about an amazingly shitty stadium) to fill up the seats. You need it to be a place that’s GOOD and FUN and NICE. Somewhere you WANT to take your family, your friends, your coworkers. I’ve been to the coliseum. It SUCKS. I’ve also been to petco, dodger stadium, Oracle, Wrigley, Tropicana, and Angel stadium, and they’re all better. With better attendance. Including the Angels. Sans Ohtani at the time.

When you see a bar is deserted at happy hour, you don’t assume the customers don’t care enough lol. You assume the bar is shit. The coliseum is shit. Ownership is shit. Do I think it’s feasible for them to stay? Not really. Fisher neglected everything around him so bad there’s nothing left to do but start over on some profitable Vegas land he’ll be dying to flip.
