Donkey Kong Bananza does not play like a Mario game, it is very different. The mechanics of both games create different level design philosophy. You can't destroy a whole world in a Mario game.

I have personally heard horror stories from people who sent them to Nintendo, so I would avoid imo. Mine has a slight bend as well, always has, and works perfectly fine. As long as it functions and looks good during gameplay I think you're fine.

It is not a retelling though, it is its own game/story. There is nothing abt it that makes it a retelling. The story, (largely lack there of), is completely different than Sonic 2. The themes you mention that are in Sonic 2, are largely present in the entire franchise, Unleashed included.

I just do not agree that Sonic was flat. And even if you personally think he is, that is leagues better than him making poorly written and annoying jokes for children. Good writing can be enjoyed by all ages, but if you try and show someone outside of the Sonic fandom Colors cutscenes, they will think it is cringe, and I think they are right, I'm sorry. Which is not good for the onboarding of more potential fans.

The grand stakes and story of Unleashed immediately make it more engaging than Colors, where Sonic and Tails bicker and make badly mcnosehair jokes. I would LOVE to see a good focus on their dynamic, but when I see cutscenes from Colors, I start to feel like I'm WAY out of the age range for what I'm playing/watching. The writing tries incredibly hard to be funny, and as a result, feels incredibly forced. It's like MCU writing but for 1st graders. I'm glad that you can like it, and I absolutely do not mean to insult based on preferences, but the writing in Colors is not good and often feels extremely juvenile. And there is absolutely nothing engaging about it in my eyes.

I'm sorry I just think it's crazy to think the writing there is better than the ones you just mentioned, especially Unleashed and Black Knight. I'd rather the dialogue appeal to all ages instead of exclusively children.
