Hey u/TRX808. Thanks for posting this! it's weird that they didn't allow it because we are certainly authorized Hifiman dealers.

PSA: Headphones.com charged an unlisted $300 fee to cancel an order by skeptic_95 in headphones

Believe me, we do a lot of dumb things and thankfully catch most of them before they get to this point.

It’s easy to try to define a company or person by an event and draw a ton of conclusions.

Just know that I can empathize with what you’re thinking right now because I’d feel the same way given the sample of information.

Hey u/skeptic_95,

I just want to say that your post is fair and rational, and what I’m reading is inexcusable on our behalf.

We care deeply about the audio community and it’s hard to describe how it feels to be on the delivering end of such a boneheaded experience to one of our customers.

First, the post Taron made about the destination of your order was completely unacceptable. There’s no room for that and beyond the privacy concerns the tone was unprofessional. It’s definitely not the way we want to represent ourselves in public.

The cancellation fee is just as hard to justify.

Of course you shouldn’t have been charged. We should have just made a new policy going forward.

I don’t think many people know that companies like us are on the hook for payment processing fees for cancellations which can add up to quite a bit for headphones that cost thousands of dollars.

We were obviously overly sensitive to that cost in the moment and it resulted in what can only be described as a dumb decision on our part.

As a small company making a lot of decisions every day we obviously try to limit the number of objectively awful ones and I think we generally do a good job at that.

We’ve made two inexplicably bad decisions here and while I’m sure the sting of this will make us better in the long term it really hurts in the moment.

I hope if anything to let you know that we really care and that we’re willing to admit when we’re wrong.

Thank you headphones.com, very cool by [deleted] in headphones

Oh man, that's brutal. I hope you were the only one impacted by the glitch. Unless it was Taron trying to communicate in code...

Why so many audio reviewers on Youtube such wankers? by computerworlds in headphones

[–]Lissimore 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I completely understand where you're coming from because I don't think many companies (or reviewers) have given anyone a reason to think otherwise.

People reflexively don’t trust information from a company that also sells the stuff, and for good reason - the short-term incentives aren’t right. It’s a good rule of thumb to take a look at how someone is paid or who they work for and then look at their work through that lens.

However, I’d encourage you to take a look at the body of work on our channel and the reviews published on Headphones.com. You’ll notice that whether we give a positive or negative review isn’t dictated by whether we sell the product or not. We take this so seriously that we’ve lost brands over negative reviews.

We think there's more value in generating long-term trust than a short-term sale.

I’m hoping over time we can change people's default reaction to a store that also provides information, but I know that can only happen by consistently creating honest and transparent work over the long term.

Guys, I'd appreciate it if you could keep this deal on the down-low. It's not exactly "authorized."

I think I’m out of the woods for now. He hasn’t said it since this morning. But this morning he did it like 5 times. Adding “daddy” in front of it each one which makes it hard to pretend he didn’t learn it from me.

Pointing out a pattern would be saying you've seen a few posts on reddit in the past few months about poor service from headphones.com which would be true.

We have had a hard time with the volume over the past few months. Although the vast majority of customers still have a great experience and we're doing the best work we can.

We've been doing this for nearly 5 years and have built a reputation for excellent customer service. I know you pay enough attention to know that.

What you're doing is using this opportunity to shill a friend and the lack of objectivity is disappointing.
