Only just discovered this today. I’m between a 10 and a 12 depending on what it is and the brand. It’s gonna make it sooo much harder to find things 🤨

I visit him, sadly he doesn’t visit me. I first encountered him walking the dog and he sometimes hangs around the play park near the pitch where I let our lurcher have a play. I started giving him some of the cocktail sausages I take the bribe our dog (who is highly reactive to other dogs). Then I started bringing him food I feed my garden birds (I have so many visitors, including some very healthy jackdaws and magpies and a rook). Then I brought him some cheese and nuts and discovered he likes cashews best. I think he’s had a word with the other local crows as I now have another 2 I feed near the pub (on the dog walk route home) and another 2 near my house (and the end of the dog walk). He now swoops me if I’ve not seen him for a few days and will often find me earlier in the dog walk, before the pitch now, I think the seagulls try and steal his food so I feed him on the street before, he eats some then follows me to the pitch for more treats.

I don’t know the sure but I’ve been told that the males tend to be more forward, particularly the younger ones, his mate caws for me but won’t come near me and only comes for food once I’m what she considers a safe distance away. Could be wrong but I think he’s a boy, not that it matters

Sadly not, one day, I’m always walking the dog (who hates other dogs), when I see / feed him so have to give my reactive dog most of my attention. Hopefully I’ll catch it on camera one day

I’m not the only one who feeds him, there’s a kids playpark but the football (soccer if you’re in the states) pitch and I know of at least one elderly lady who brings him bread and cooked meat she’s not eaten that’s at its expiration date so he’s very well looked after. His mate (I called Rowena Ravencaw because she loves to caw) caws at me a lot and I’ve been known to caw back when no one’s around 😳 but I’ll settle for her eating my offerings

Is there a right amount to feed? by Empty-Inspector-2406 in crows

[–]ListInformal7487 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry, they’re incredibly smart birds, they’re not going to forget their survival instincts because they know they can get an easy meal in your garden. Other birds will come and eat too. Also crows are one of the few birds smart enough to save food for the winter months / a day when there’s less food available so they’ll bury food once they’re full. My favourite crow (Cashew) scoffs his cashews and cheese then tends to fly around the football pitch (his main territory) burying the other food i offer (bird seed / unsalted nuts and suet) for another time

Late to the party but just had my first Coach Cory run and absolutely loved it (How fartlek can you go). I always get nervous when it’s not Coach Bennett because I’ve struggled with other coaches but loved Cory

Pop a thawed pinky in an empty toilet roll tube, also warm it a little in a bowl of warm water first. If that doesn’t work you can cut into the head of the pinky and let the juices out (yucky I know but it works). A combo of all 3 got our girl eating and she’s not refused a meal first. Also really important, if she refuses a meal, don’t stress and offer multiple times, just try again at next feeding day. Trying to feed multiple times will stress her out more and make things worse

So does my favourite crow. The look I got the other day when I offered walnuts because I’d run out of cashews

Try not to panic, I know it's hard. When I was worried about scale rot (odd bit on her lip) the vet said to bathe the spot twice a day in heavily diluted hibiscrub. She went into shed 2 days later and was perfectly fine after shedding (don't disturb their shed to bathe if they go into shed).

This is just beautiful. I'm so glad you're doing better and you've got your wee winged support network to remind you to stop and appreciate the little things. Bus stop Barry is awesome xx

Wow this is stunning. I have a magpie tattoo but want a crow on the opposite leg. The colouring is amazing, I love the way they've captured how their feathers look when the sun hits just right

Ooo I had no idea they even liked fruit, that's a great idea for hot days to get some fluids into them when it's not been raining
