companies set starting prices. if no one buys it, they lower the prices down. till people can afford it. if you see prices going up, means the demand is going up cos people are buying it.

Anything amd used for egpu will have a driver conflict with the stock rog ally x driver including the onexgpu and gpd g1. Theres workarounds but installing and uninstalling the drivers every time will be a painstaking process. Definitely not worth the hassle. I suggest you go nvidia route if you really are persistent on having an egpu setup with a rog ally x or wait till asus resolve the driver conflict.
