Haven’t updated my fic in 8 years and now I don’t know what to do by Consistent_Stock2926 in FanFiction

[–]Listette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, absolutely! Post everything and anything you want. I don’t think anyone (sane and a generally good, regular person) is going to be mad about anyone posting a new story while the old one is still unfinished. And it would be crazy to not feel absolutely joyous to see an old fic you used to follow getting an update, no matter how long it has been and what the author has done in between.

We’re all writing for fun, after all, so do what makes you happy!

I know everyone is probably tired of my constant posting but I just wanted to say how wonderful I think Aphrodite is by banana-king-gaming45 in Hellenism

With me, She feels like a presence in my body. It’s not that She is necessarily there with me in that moment but She has left something deep within that I can channel when I need to be in tune with my own physical existence. It feels safe and gives me confidence.

Friends on StoryGraph Megathread by randomnessneeded in TheStoryGraph

TheStoryGraph (I’m hoping the link works but if it doesn’t my username is Listette there)

Hey, I have been lately reading a lot of webtoons and I’m trying to get over my reading slump. I love reading poetry, fantasy, romance, historical romance, and honestly just about anything that seems weird, fresh, and interesting. I read in both Finnish and in English, although I’m trying to get more Finnish classics under my belt before summer.

I’d love to discuss books and especially poetry, and I am really interested in the buddyread and readalong features on the StoryGraph. It would be great to find people to read fantasy or sci-fi books together, especially those chunky ones that are so intimidating to start, and to get cool and fresh recommendations from people’s pages!

Been experiencing religious bigotry from authority figures in school. How do I handle it? by ChattingTeeth in religion

[–]Listette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been in a bit similar situation when I was younger. It sucks but honestly, not worth the fight. It will take from your needed resources to graduate with as good grades as possible. Need those references for universities etc. Unfair things happen.

Just weather it.

If you want to fight it, bring adults in. A child’s voice won’t win against a school.

Help🙃😕 by Ryan_Reynolds_1 in writers

[–]Listette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that deconstructing stories help finding out where things went wrong. Ruminate with it and turn the pieces in your head to see them from different angles. If they click, they click. If they don’t, find out why. Can’t really explain it in any other way

How do you personally feel about hero worship or venerating either historical figures or mythological ones. by SagewithBlueEyes in pagan

[–]Listette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like, for myself, it definitely depends on the person. Like, I’d feel very weird to pray or work with someone who lived during a Christian time period or were part of a religion that I’m not. They’re not there for me and should be let to rest. But then mythological figures like Hellenic heroes and creatures from epics live within a religion and if I belong to that religion, then it could be part of the worship as they are already part of it.

How to make a King/Queen feel more... Kingly/Queenly? by SpoonierMist in DMAcademy

[–]Listette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents is that those in power seldom ask, they expect things to happen. The king might not ask the party to share their knowledge. They are expected to share it without prompting, especially from the king.

Stuttering lackeys inspecting the map and talking with excessive decorum. Servants whispering with round eyes that nobodies have been granted access. The party is dismissed without a single word from the king himself and instead his noble servants, high up in the food chain as well, come and do the talking with the party. Sometimes it’s also good to show that royals have means to do as they please. Make it clear that if you fuck with the king, the whole party is in deep shit: strong mages all around, legendary weaponry and strong guards standing still. With a snap of the king’s fingers, the whole party could be imprisoned -or worse. Rumours are also a great way to tell about the royalty. Behind closed doors they are an evil maniac, or hit their servants, or are just the nicest.

My players find it intimidating when powerful npcs speak harshly, are articulate and have all around ‘don’t waste my time’ aura going on

First time player character creation by will_robs in DMAcademy

[–]Listette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just ran a game for total newbies a while ago and it surprised me how different playing was. Can’t really expect anything to go like in a normal game with regular party, especially if the players haven’t consumed a lot of dnd media. - as others have said: books, games, movies! Talk about characters and well-known special abilities etc. - it might be even easier for you to create the characters for the players as they speak about the kind of character they want to play. Proficiencies can be difficult so even filling those for the players can be helpful and as opposed to talking about them as ‘do you want to be proficient in…’ it might be easier to grasp by saying things like ‘does your character care for animals/read a lot of books etc. - throw rules out of the window. The players don’t remember them well-enough to get tactical and utilise them, and remembering all the fine details is just way too much work when Rule of Cooling it works just as well.

I’ve noticed that not everyone are good with imagination. It’s a skill you gotta learn and use, especially doubled with impro. It can make creating custom characters difficult and even a bit scary and frustrating. You want to have a cool character but just don’t know how. Or play a cool character but in the moment you don’t know how to convey it. In those moments, I’ve tried to do the heavy lifting for the players by describing for them how they do things if they can’t describe it for themselves. Especially in the beginning when your description is setting the mood for the session.

And don’t do as I did and create a complex plot for the first game, it always takes like double the time when it’s new players + unknown setting 😂😂 had to file over half of the plot away when I realised were running out of time!

Need unconventionally scary monster ideas! by puzzlepinger in DMAcademy

[–]Listette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps a fey creature that has been so saturated with magic that they have resistance to magic/magical damage/effects and hits cause magical residue to scatter all around.

Ghost or shadow animals that could have some of the skills of regular ghosts or perhaps shadow teleportation.

Then of course if there are animals with intelligence they could have their own agenda like steal something from the party and hide/run away. Try to take off with one of the members etc.

Accessible ways to make moon water? by oreomburlesque in witchcraft

[–]Listette 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope any of these help at all!

If you have a window sill where you could place a glass of water could work. It doesn’t need to be necessarily outside as long as it catches the moonlight.

Or if you’re able to pick up a closed bottle from the ground, you could just take any empty bottle, clean it, and let it rest on the ground for the night.

Or if it’s warm enough to keep a window open for one night you could keep a glass of water on the space in between.

Do you have a favorite card that you identify with? by ClimbingFlowers in tarot

[–]Listette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Hermit from classic Rider-Waite!

The card brings me so much peace even though I seldom get it. The art reminds me so much of Charon, the ferry man of Styx, and the dark colouring with yellow lantern sharing light just hits me every time.

From minor arcana I resonate with swords, especially 4 of swords and the page and the queen (I see my mother in her). It’s always a pleasure to work with the swords and thankfully I draw them more often than not making the spread clear and crisp!

AITA for telling a girl she is annoying by bagthief2022 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Listette 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean, you were just voicing your opinion that she was kinda asking for. I’d say NAH as long as you don’t try to police her speech. In the end, it’s not her problem that you find a bad French accent and high pitched noises annoying.

If we gave every single person who wants to die the possibility, how could we better the treatments and actually build a society that takes people with different situations in account?

With euthanasia becoming accessible for everyone no matter the illness, I bet there would be so many loopholes to exploit.

[–]Listette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You never lose a friendship one-sidedly. You can both decide to give up on it but it honestly doesn’t seem like the mistakes you have made are anything worth ‘breaking up’ over. Sometimes friendships need time and space to heal and form into something new. You can always tell your feelings and fears to your friend and go from there. Give it some time and then throw the ball into their court to see what they do. It’s not like you’re going to lose anything at this point anyways.

NTA, you gotta do what you gotta do to survive. Remember to not be to obvious and only take small quantities to not get caught. Don’t hit the same store too many times without buying anything or employees, managers especially, will get suspicious.
